I was talking to another Melbourne supporter and were talking about the idea of player scarves.

i suggested a scarf that including the players last name, number, symbol and est.

i have drawn a rough draft, im not a good drawer but i hope you get the idea haha

would like to hear back from you guys to whether you like it or not :)

thank you

Any idea to change the scarf is a good one.

The problem is the demand. The club can't afford to speculate on what players will and won't be desired by the members and risk losing a heap on scarves that don't get sold.

A similar idea would be scarves that have a plastic pocket at each end that you can then slip photos/cards of your favourtite players into. This would mean the scarf remains a generic item and the club only has to pay to print the photos/cards; a much cheaper option.

Also, if members specify what players photo/card they would like when joining the club, the club can print on demand rather than speculate.

Dont know if this is a great thing for your idea around here.

But I reckon its a great idea. Especially with the "pocket addition".

Good luck with it. I would buy 1+

A scarf with a plastic pocket?

No thanks.

I'm just giving my opinion here:

Not a good idea.

Nothing wrong with the scarfs the way they are.

This idea would not be an improvement.

Collingwood actually did this for a while. I have seen a few Tarrant and Buckley scarfs floating around at games. No idea of the volume of production, or the cost to purchase.

I don't mind the idea, as it becomes somewhat of a collectors item and does add to the revenue at the demons shop. We all know we fork out for merch when we are winning, so not the worst idea.

My one tweak on it would be that we make memorial player scarfs. Reward club legends with a limited release, not just any player who happens to be on the list at the time. That will eliminate the risk of players jumping clubs, because they have already retired.

I think our scarf should remain Generic Red & Blue. It is what it is-The Melbourne Football club scarf

If you wish to add things to it, that is entirely cool, But do it yourself or give Grandma a task for summer. Make it original

But i cannot see how the club could sell them without losing money....

it would still be red and blue.........?

and would still be the "melbourne football club scarf"

i wouldn't go to the extreme of adding another teams name or colour on it..

Yes, but it would be almost impossible to predict which versions would sell and which would not.

So why not just sell the Generic and then ring Grandma (or do it yourself) as i said.

For me the Scarf is for the whole team, the jumpers can be more personal...IMO

Years of membership embroided at the bottom is the only thing needed. Hawks do it great.

Posted

I know that Hawthorn's member scarfs have their logo on one end and the amount of years as a member on the other. I really like that idea, although i do like the scarfs being different each year like they are with ours. Not so sure about the horns though, but the scarf is a great one. What they should bring back is the head bandanas.

I must have 4 or 5 dated scarves gathering dust at home. Is it now time to provide an undated one to the next batch of members and thereafter a single choice between say, a scarf, a beanie or perhaps a light waterproof poncho in club colours.

The reason it is the same item every year is that it does not have a negative impact on revenue. If Melbounre provide other merchandise for free, it would take away from sales. Keep it to a scarf and supporters have to buy beanies.

I give the scarf away each year to someone who does not support a team to try and get them on the Dees wagon.

Fair enough, but you would think anything acrylic whether scarf or beanie should be dirt cheap to the club and the poncho i had in mind was the "bin-liner" $3- variety !

I volunteer handing out the scarves and have had a couple of chats with the 'powers that be' at the Club, they have had many suggestions etc on what to have, scarf, cap, beanie etc........they do ask.....majority opinion from supporters they canvas is a scarf......

I like the idea of red caps that stand out in the hope of turning the MCG crowd into a sea of red .

Having said that I'm looking forward to seeing 20,000 flashing red demon horns out there . B)

I love that idea. Not one scarf for each player, but a club leader/legend or two, offer as an addition to membership (like the cap this year and polo shirts of past 2 years) and sell any extras at the MFC shop or give to rural communities.

What do you think Schwab?

Try to think how this idea would go on Dragon's Den...

"No."

"I'm out."

"Not for me."

"I'll pass."

I'm sure the kids will love the horns and happy for the club to do so.

But I will not be wearing horns. Flashing or otherwise

I've been wearing one similar to that for years...had it made by a lady in ADelaide...she does all clubs( except Port and hawks, can't get the right colours ) It has players names...coach... captain.... year and my name.

I wear with pride.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
