Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Did he whack Martyn? My memory is not clear but did Micky Martin chuck a wobbly and go mental at what Jackovich was doing to him on the scoreboard?

I will have to watch it again, it's been a while, but i think it all happened just before 3/4 time. i think punches were exchanged, maybe Jako started speaking in Slavik to him, as i heard him and Glen do a couple of times!!!

What a great thread.

The HBO show Eastbound and Down could be remade down here, but use AJ as the main character.

Hahaha YES.

Jako IS Kenny Powers.

That show is some of the funniest sh!t I've seen in years.

That game against the Saints was the first football game I ever went to (I would have been about 4 or 5). But I didn't start going regularly until 1994, and I'll never forget Jakovich's performance against Brisbane in round 3 or 4 on a Friday night at the MCG. Absolutely destroyed Brisbane off his own boot. I was also at his last game against Hawthorn at Princess Park when he kicked 8 goals.

It is brilliant.

Season 2 has kicked it up a notch too.

But back to the great Allen f----n Jakovich...

I've got the tape as well, but sadly no VHS player to watch it on. He got reported for abusive language though, not striking. Copped a $750 fine but still got three Brownlow Votes.

A handy cricketer too, played alongside him a couple of years ago - the great AJ still "moves like a panther in the field".

Did you find out anything about him or what he's up too. Seems to be a mystery man these days.

Favourite Allen Jackovich moment was when we beat the filth at Vic Park in 91 I think. Jako was playing [censored] and got dragged just before quarter time and got jeered by the entire ground. He came back on and tore them apart, kicking 7 or 8. By then end after every goal he'd give the maggots fans the finger. Hilarious. Chopper lovell kicked the sealer in the dying seconds.

I LOVE the G as much as anyone. But I really do miss those trips out to the suburban grounds more than anything. All the changes, rules etc I can work with and assimilate quickly as we all do.

But there was nothing better than a nice good win (stop before Mike Brady sues) at a suburban ground. Your example here harry is a fantastic memory of what was a super day.

You must have been a sucker for punishment and loved seeing us lose on a regular basis. :) Wins were very rare for us at these suburban wastelands. Did you ever get to a cold, wet windy game at the Western Oval when we played there? Our performances were usually more miserable than the weather.

Wins were rare anywhere back in those days :(

The stat that is the most compelling is the revelation that in 1991 AJ had 128 shots at goal in 14 games. That's more than 9 shots at goal every game! Closer to 10 if you add a couple of O.O.B on the full stats. When is the last time you met a bloke who had ten shots on goal each and every match in a season?

He kicked 11.8 in like his 10th game of footy and 71 in half a debut season, strewth!!!! Imagine if that happened in this day and age. This place would go into meltdown.

Early to mid 90s were the good old days of footy. Someone like Jako wouldn't get a look in to the AFL these days.

There have been many great full forward goal kickers but I would rate only two as having irresistable goal face dominance and presence. Both too good to be true and only fate could cut them down. Peter Hudson and Allen Jackovich. Hudson was cut down by injury. Jackovich by his own excesses and also injury. Both would have racked up 1200+ goals easily if they had fully realised careers.

Hey peeps, read lots of Demonland threads but never had the urge to take up a discussion till the great 'Jacko' was brought up, he was my hero growing mainly due to him being simply a loose cannon. Was trying to find out more about hi a while ago when I stumbled on this story from the Ox (story is dated back in 2007) enjoy

"Yesterday a bloke calls up SEN and asked David Schwarz what’s Allen Jakovich up to these days.....Ox mentions he’s running a fishing charter company up on the Gold Coast and is a recluse or something along those lines.....then proceeds to tell a story.....

In Allen's contract, he was allocated $10,000 every year worth of Puma gear and when he came first time to collect he took all $10,000 straight off the bat.....the idea was to take a little bit each time so your always decked out in the newest products Puma has to offer, but Allen took it all in one hit and was suspected of taking the clothes then selling them down at a market or somewhere else.

The next year same thing, comes in grabs all $10,000 straight up.....so one of the Melbourne Football Club Executives or someone along those lines followed him to see what he was up to.....turns out he followed him right to the Royal Children’s Hospital where Jakovich was handing out all the clothes to the kids."

Those old grouds were great. They were being phased out just as I started going to the footy (I was only 6 or 7 in that story I told above) but I've managed to get to the Western Oval, Prince's Park, Victoria Park and Kardinia Park. They were a key part of a footy club's identify; a sense of place.

Many would argue that it simply was no longer possible to play matches there for financial reasons and this may or may not be true, however, Geelong make pretty much more money than anyone by playing games in their small suburban ground. It begs the question whether Melbourne clubs couldn't play the interstate teams at their original grounds.

I feel fortunate that we are the only club in Melbourne that still plays at its original ground.

Very Valid Point. I have no doubt St.kilda, Carlton, Footscray & even North Melbourne & Collingwood would be better off Financially if they had all kept their Home grounds & were able to run them as "clean" stadiums after of course doing some major renovations.

Geelong do as well as the interstate clubs with their clean stadium now. (don't forget they were so far in debt before Brian Cook came along)

The Loss of Home Grounds & the Building of that God awful Docklands Soulless Stadium is a sad blight on our game although many will argue for it.

Docklands Stadium is designed to make the shareholders money...The events & clubs it holds are secondary.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
