He is a gifted athlete, and has some great natural talent. Does he really want to play AFL footy?

IMVHO Stef did well as a defender, and adequately when asked to pinch hit up forward.

However he is not likely to make it as a forward alone.

He is mobile and, if /when fully fit could become a tall ruck rover.

I must've missed any game that he got within a bulls roar of appearing competent .

Went well in the GF sprint though .

He played about half a season of competent footy at CHB in 08, was even keeping Frawley out of the team.

But:

Can't play fullback - doesn't read the game well enough

Can't play full forward - can't kick straight

As a CHB type he is decent back up.

His best shot at making it is as a back up ruck, so thats where I think we play him.

He obviously had most of this season ruined by injury, but his start of season form was rubbish and soft.

My mail from the club is - "he takes a lot of work" - direct quote from towards the top.

He is competing with Spencer, Newton, Fitzpatrick for a game each week, based on that alone he must be some chance.

Stef played 1 or 2 decent games as a back flanker, Where are you pulling this second ruck stuff from ??? Roost it the guy is a basketballer and BTW Newton believe it or not has shown WAY MORE !! Desperate to start to a thread much ??

Shouldn't you be studying for exams?

Write a bloke like Stef Martin off at your own peril...

I agree! He is worth perservering with.

The games I rememebr he played half back / wing and was damaging with his run and carry and he knows how to use his body

He is very raw and needs to get confidence with game time!

IMO he could be anything "maybe a star". Now we have cleared the decks it really is betwween Spencer Newted Fitspatrick and Martin. He is clearly the best athlete and does have ball skills so I'm hoping the FD gives him some game time this year.

I agree with you in the main

However I saw him a couple of times at Casey and he just did not seem interested.

Before he gets a go a senior level I would want to see some geninue endeavour at casey in the first 5-6 games.

For mine 2011 is it for Steff, show some endeavour or it is over.

Round 5 vs Brisbane. I thought he was quite good that night.

His future is as a ruck/forward. That is clear. If he can't crack it in that role he won't make it at all. But he hasn't failed yet.

what is that question based on?

Agree, reasonably bold to doubt someone's desire given the limited period of time SM has been fit. Do you have a basis for that?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

Some veteran Demonland Trackwatchers ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you the following observations from another Preseason Training Session. WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
