Trent West

Club has been speaking to him about coming to the club in PSD or ND. West is keen to get a run elsewhere.

I have no idea what, if anything this will amount to.

I know very little about him as a player.

198cm and 104kgs

Turning 23 this month.

Debuted 2008, played 11 games and 4 this year.

Aggressive ruck who moves pretty well for his size. Hard to judge from the minimal games he has played. Always felt he was a better option than Blake though.

198cm and is primarily a ruckman. Has not really done anything spectacular at AFL level, but I would be keen to know if anyone has watched his VFL games.

West on the rookie list could hurt Newtons chances.

23 years old this year, so still young. Hardly going to be marquee signing if it happens.

Mobile? No. Set the world on fire? No no.

Strong? Yes. Does he use it? No.

Does he need more game time? Likely.

Is West any good as a forward or whatever, or is he a #1 ruck prospect?

Haha, West up forward = recipe for disaster. Seriously. He is a one-position only ruckman and that is his major downfall.

I haven't seen much of him either, but I read he has a great pair of hands more than capable of the big pack marks. Geelong advertiser says he is much a future forward as a future ruckman. Size wise and age he fits what we need, but as I said haven't seen much of him, but worth a look.

In my opinion... no idea!! I simply haven't been overly impressed by him.

But each to their own and if the MFC see something in him then I certainly won't jump up and down and bash their door down.

I trust the FD.

I meant in response to your first analysis of West- why would we be talking to him if he was the kind of player you described. I think you failed to mention that analysis was in your opinion. I have faith in the FD also, maybe they have had an eye on West also, as to not put all the eggs into the Hale basket.

Is there a link to this news, or any footage of West?

DeezMan your quite harsh at times and that is pretty dismissive. I suspect your Jamar critique would have been much more damaging than this if this is how you see a player that has had very, very limited exposure thus far.

He's played 10 games FFS and is only 22.

Trent West, would be a good 2nd ruck option, but he is likely to be given more opportunity at Geelong.

This is opinion only ...but I would suggest that West would be more likely to nominate if Blake stays at Geelong. Should Blake go West is likely to get more of the opportunity he craves. I believe that Geelong does not want to lose him.

I agree. Considering how Mumford has gone, coupled with enough drama's down at the cattery just now, not sure they will take the chance by letting him go.

Purerly subjective but might West be at least I trigued by the idea of a team climbing and heading head first through it's window as compared a team facing serious reinvention. West and Blake were to meet with their FD regarding their futures at the Cattery. Wonder how that went? There was a view in Geelong that he(W) might explore other options.

Seems rather astute of Melb to suss him out (assuming this is all happening) whilst they are in some disarray !

I'll have faith in the FD, they thought Hale worth a look and so it seems did others. They apparently think West worth a look.. Happy enough with that . He isthe type; how good ? nfi

Yep, same. Happy to go with Dandeemans info that he is talking.

Surely we didn't have only Hale in mind?

Would have to consider him via the PSD for "nothing", but wouldn't be willing to use a ND pick on him. Another of these guys from Geelong that may have untapped ability due to lack of opportunity.

If he can take a strong overhead mark, he's mile ahead of what we already have. How often he needs to do this is unknown, but has the physique to fill the position. Has only played 11 games, so not really concerned by his career goals column.

With Meesen retired, PJ could take his spot of the rookie list freeing up one spot, is it worth waving Newton goodbye and putting TMac on the rookie list as well to free up enough spots for Spencer, Jordie and pick 12 and 32?

It's entirely possible you could grab Sinclair in the draft and West in Psd

I'd be flabbergasted if Hale has been the only forward/ruck the FD has spoken to. Like you, nostra, BB & Dandee - I'm confident our club would be in good hands with the FD in casting the net far & wide for such options as Hale, Sinclair, West or anyone else for that matter in speaking to them.

Billy- please confirm that JohnMeeson has retired or are you only assuming he will? And I thought Trent West was a contracted player but disenchanted..

West uncotracted;

& apparently West is unhappy being 3rd in line. A few whispers and I don't see why not. We are an exciting proposition these days..

I wonder if he knows he'll have to rename himself Jack and redden his hair; it's just the Melb way

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
