I asked this before in the Kyle Cheney thread... Just thought it would be interesting to hear what the majority think in the form of a poll.

I'm fairly sure, from a legal standpoint, he won't play, as he's officially now a Hawthorn player.

Actually he's a Melbourne contracted player until October 30. AFL standard contracts by design run past the trade period, so no-one is "out of contract" during trade week.

I hope not. If he got injured it wouldn't be fair to Kyle and would only cause bad blood between the clubs.

Just let him take a holiday with his mates to say goodbye.

Bad blood between Melbourne and Hawthorn?

Gee, what a shame.

He won't play though.

But it would be good if he did and...

They really shouldn't have let him go in the first place. As embarrasing as the top model finale. I feel for the guy, limbo in Shanghai and a ginger.

Nah i wouldn't give those Bastards any Ammo at all to throw at us.

We owe them some serious pain in years to come. Deliver Kyle to them safely & wish him the best until next time we meet.

His contract doesn't even run out on Oct 30th, he has another year to go.

Either way, his contract now belongs to Hawthorn, as do his services.

He's not even a remote chance to play.

As has already been said, this is not correct; by agreeing to the trade (and presumably signing it etc) the contract now belongs to Hawthorn. He's not our player anymore, neither in principle nor in law.

On the question: even if he were still our player from a legal point of view, why would the club bother to play him? There are a lot of risks and costs associated, and absolutely no gains whatsoever. It's a bit of a dumb question really, you only need to go skin deep with a little bit of logic and it's obvious the answer is 'no'.

Must be from October 30 or November 1, otherwise would stuff up payment to the players and the salary cap.

I would guess that when a trade is done on a contracted player, the trade comes into affect from 1 November. Besides there would still need to be paperwork to complete.

The trade paperwork lodged today would just be the notification to the AFL, the actual contract signing would have to be done later (many players are still o'seas) . I don't believe that you can actually transfer a player (employee) under contract to a new employer, it would require the agreement of the player, and hence their signature on the contract.

I hope he gets to a have a final run with his mates. :)

All the best, Kyle.

"Young defender Kyle Cheney will complete Melbourne's trip to China despite the Demons trading him to Hawthorn on the final day of the player exchange period."

"It's unclear at this stage whether Cheney will play for Melbourne in its exhibition match against the Brisbane Lions in Shangai on Saturday. "

The trip's going to be all about the future of the Dees, building trust within the group, yada yada.

I'd guess it'd be best for all involved if Cheney wasn't on the trip.

Yep...seems very generous of the Dees.

Best really he was put on the next plane home.

So it doesn't seem as if there are emg's over there so. Majority are thinking that he's not playing. If thats the go guessing we would just go with 2 on the bench from the start of the game? Unless they send someone else over. I think more than likely he won't play, I'm still not as 187% guaranteed as some people.

It would be totally illogical for him to play. This trip is all about bonding. Providing the next 10 year group with a foundational experience upon which to build and remember. Kyle isnt part of that. He is not a Demon, hes a Hawk...and really has no place being there now. Best he gets on with his new footy direction..and us with ours with the players that matter.

Not meant to be nasty ...just reality

Well the Hun have reported that he won't play.

Maybe that bastion of truth & common sense will convince you.

I didnt say he would.. did I?? I said it would be illogical if he did.

Why he is even there now is the curiosity. Must feel 125% awkward

Not you naan bread, I was talking about deemolition man.

If you notice, we practically posted simultaneously.

I didn't quote for the sake of economy.

Awkward, but I hope it's not also an unwelcome distraction when all our boys are meant to be bonding on a way that keeps them at MFC for the next decade.

Ahhhh lol ... All makes sense :)

if I heard correctly Pelchen suggested he'd be coming back this weekend after being given a few days to enjoy himself. A bit of common sense in action there.

Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
