No use having anyone on board if their heart's not on the job. A bit of fine tuning in our coaching ranks will be a positive for the club.

Thanks for your help Sean. Now let's move on.

Pretty disappointing considering our backline has been the strongest part of our game for the past 2-3 years. I don't see how losing him is a positive unless we can gain a coach who has equal or greater ability which I think will be hard to do.

Ouch. A massive MASSIVE blow to the MFC. It was foreseeable though...

It makes me hate Essendon that bit more now!!!

Hopefully we can recruit a more than adequate substitute for Wellman.

I think the players who play down there have a fair bit to do with the strength of the backline.

Obviously we need to find an adequate replacement, but Wellman's departure won't suddenly turn Frawley, Garland, Rivers, MacDonald and so forth into terrible players.

From Wellman, our backmen will have a solid foundation of what to do and how to work together efficiently. From here on in, it's the ability to work to the team's gameplan better and better and better.

We have the players. Now it's time to build on the foundation. Enter new backline coach.

Whilst it's disappointing I can't really blame him. The lure to be back coaching at your old club with a good mate would be too good to turn down I would have thought.

Nether the less we move on with our young gun defence.

Yeah I agree that the playing ability we have down back is a large part of being successful, however Wellman was the man that developed Frawley & Garland especially into the players they are. Without being in the inner sanctum of the club we really can't estimate how important a catalyst Wellman was to the performance of the team. However as an observer looking in I think that a lot of the structures, techniques & knowledge that he gave to the backline group was instrumental in our improvement in that area of the teams play whether we have the talent or not. Sometimes replacing staff who have first class experience & knowledge is extremely hard to do.

well i think he played a big part in the zone that won hawthorn the grandfinal, and im pretty sure hes a darn good coach, definately a gooood replacement, and then it would help get young jack along to the club so thats a positive haha

Very disappointing but I can see why he would want to go back to essendon. Although im not sure why he would extend his contract this month for another year. he muist have known Hird was going to go for the essendon job and get it.

Im guessing when we play them next year he is going to have a lot of knowledge of our team and the weaknesses in our backline. He has done a great job with it htough especially getting Frawley up and going.

Is it just me or is the essendon coaching panel to essendon. I mean Hird, wellman and wallis. This could backfire big time on them. It would be funny if it does. Why cant essendon accept other people.

I mean I never heard of Dean Bailey when he took over but now im grateful we have taken a chance on an unknown.

And as much as I wanted Garry Lyon to coach us im sort of glad he didnt. If we didnt do any good I wouldnt like the members turning on him.

Im not sure who would be our next backline coach. Any thoughts?

Max Hudgton would be worth a run at, I reckon.

He has had a smaller development role at the pies this year.

There are a plethora of assistants that have left Brisbane and Essendon.

We could have a crack at a few of these.

Alan Richardson would be a good get and I can't see him staying at the bombers after he has missed their top job.

There are a plethora of assistants that have left Brisbane and Essendon.

We could have a crack at a few of these.

He is fantastic in his ability to nurture young players & get the best out if them through development.

He has another 2 years guaranteed from Essendon but by all means if he's out of place there, get my man Richo on our couching panel!!!

Yeah i heard Alan on SEN the other day for a long interview..i was impressed with his demena for sure. Never heard him speak before.

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
