Had a sensational start to the season, the highlight being his 17-touch, four-goal effort against Collingwood in round two before a shoulder injury in round six ended his season. Will be a welcome return in 2011 -Luke Holmesby melbournefc

Definitely missed him this season. Will be a gun.

Plays so tall for a bloke who is shorter than Trengove.

Long long arms and very courageous.

One of those really handy pieces to a side, like a Max Rooke.

I don't like the Max Rooke analogy...

Anyway, missed Ricky big time this season - proved he was a player on the up with his first 6 games of the season before injury struck.

Takes a great mark and is a much improved kick of the ball!

Gold Coast will be ruing they're loss at recruiting him - well done Dees!!

Petterd shined when our forward line was in shambles this year....needs to have good on field chemistry with Jurrah, Green, Wonna, Watts & co....

I should add that the beauty is he goes under the radar at opposition teams - it works to our advantage.

I think you'll find that we have one of the best conversion rates of I50s to scores in the comp.

Mahoney has done a very good job with a young and undersized forward line.

The silence of the Ricky doubters is deafening...

Yet again...

Could it be that the 'doubters' have changed their minds? This happens y'know, when the information at hand changes.

There were very legitimate reasons to question his role this time last year.

I don't doubt his ability but have real doubts about his body.Seems very injury prone and if, indeed, can get this right will be a sensational player for us.

undersized and inexperienced...plus they were often starved of chances.

where did we rank for inside 50 in the comp?

Just love Ricky's courage, strength and recent goal kicking prowess. Seems to have found his niche in the forward half, and was sorely missed after round 6. Will add another dimension to our forward set-up in 2011, and be an important factor in the potential match-up dilemma that will confront opposition coaches.

He is a real enigma to me.

Doesn't in any way look a marking forward, but has done the job magnificently when available.

I guess a question is where does he fit in if all of Jurrah, Watts, Dunn, Green, Davey, Wona are fit and in form, and even Bate were to apply himself and realise his potential.

Would be a nice dilema for selectors.

Yep.

He was fantastic early on. Probably would have kicked 40-odd goals this year.

His set-shot kicking really surprised me. It seemed so natural and was very reliable.

Who could forget his game against the Pies.

Yeah...nah.

His kicking for goal is still wonky & unreliable.

He was good, but seriously.

Rose-tinted memories.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
