I cannot see one!

But the AFL can.

Who at the AFL decides?

Does anyone know?

It would have to be Adrian Anderson, General Manager of Football Operations wouldn't it ?

. . . . .

I can dream I suppose.

IMO the subject is now officially lost.

Dees in a white jumper in the GF is the future!

the natives are not happy, old dee, i smell revolution in the making

Seriously though, as a first step maybe we could at least convince the AFL to allow coloured shorts for away strips? This makes a big difference visually to the overall look of white. Look at many of the NRL away strips where this is not a requirement.

Re - read the thread. The reason there was no clash in 1966 is because Collingwoods guernsey is now predominantly black. In 1966 it was predominantly white. Collingwood's jumper, despite what Eddie says is completely opposite to its "traditional" guernsey.

Where indeed....??? B) The Saints should pay the Fine & wear their Trad Strip.

I would be happy to sling them a tenner, This is a dam Principal.

The AFL have taken away Home Grounds now they want to control jumpers.

that is a silly sttatement. finance for clubs, safety for people, and state of ground (maintenance) would have more to do with it. it hasn't affected geelong has it ?

jumpers is different. this issue comes down to power. AFL power. wouldn't be surprised if eddie himself drew up the rules of who wears what and when.

I do not think it would matter to the AFL if one side wore flashing lights on their shorts.

IMO the term "clash jumper" is the short term discription for what they really want which is an "away strip"

Their ultimate objective is to have all teams wear a "white" jumper when they are the away team.

E.G. Basketball and a number of competitions overseas.

Don't understand the need but it seems to be a determined effort IMO by the AFL.

It's not silly at all...Of course it hasn't affected Geelong, it has made them stronger-which is exactly my point.

Not every decision the AFL makes is always for the good of the game, But their spin Doctors are well versed in telling us that all is well.

What is the sentiment on the Saints Web Site??? Are they prepared to fight or have the supporters rolled over??

Spot on Warren I have been arguing this for years with Collingwood fans.

Their jumper has changed, to say they are not playing in any thing else is Eddie spin

because it is substantially different and guess who changed it?

Collingwood!

not the AFL.

If ever a team should play in a white clash jumper it is collingwood!

As one-on-one football died - the need for clash jumpers emerged.

The game has evolved, our eyes haven't...

Well, if I was in his position in a close game and got asked if I mistook the ump for a dee, guess what I'd say

TBH I'm not saying it wasn't a case of a clash, it probably was, but there is room for doubt (totally stupid umpiring decision anyway)

BTW I do believe there are cases of misidentification in games, always has been and always will be, even with clash strips. Problem is just how prevelant they are and to what extremes do you goto to avoid them. At the moment the AFL just dictatorially decide who clashes and what clash strips must look like and allows new franchises to design home strips which obviously clash etc. etc.

So you don't like the AFL dictating to clubs but you want them to dictate to new clubs?

Every club should have a clash strip.

Collingwood will eventually take more black out of theirs and have an acceptable jumper.

There will go the double standard and everyone can move on.

I will not hold my breath waiting for the Pies to role over.

In the mean time the hand ringing will continue.

There are many thousands of words to be written yet!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm not totally against a clash strip

What I am against is a predominately white clash strip, and the narrow defining of which teams we clash with.

I think the AFL rulings on these two aspects are an overreaction and overly dictatorial

Is that clearer for you or are you happy with the situation?

Daisycutter I cannot believe it a small concession " not totally against a clash strip"

Mate when we are playing in the GF in 2012 You will not be worrying about the jumper colour.

But Remember this old bloke told you the AFL will have their way

White "away" jumpers will be the excepted system by 2012.

I can only imagine how that will frighten them.

A MFC supporter demanding things be changed.

Besides words how do you intend to get them to change their minds?

Hit them with a wet tram ticket?

Threaten them with going to the "A league" of "NRL" instead.

They Know that we will both go to the GF if Melbourne are playing in pink with purple polka Dots.

. . . .

Well, I have said it before a number of times

for example a red/blue reverse jumper would be ok with me

And there could be other "acceptable" designs if only we had more flexibility

I agree with you, there was IMO a bigger clash on Friday night than there will be on Saturday.

I know you have not rolled over!

I just struggle with how you are going to change things when our club has rolled over.

As well as the 90% of the other clubs.

Do you propose we sack the MFC board ( that has just ellimated $5 million debt )

to get one that takes us out of the league because won't play in a white clash strip!

The problem you face trying to get another clash strip up is the AFL wants all teams to have a predominantly white clash strip.

From their position that is the end of the story.

You can have any clash strip colour as long as it is white.

sort of Fordian!

It will take one club to bite the Bullett and Pay the Fine for wearing a Trad Jumper old dee.

Then the arguement will be on and out in the open. Someone will do it during september i hope. B)

I don't think they'll bend on the need for a clash jumper (well, not in my time)

But, eventually, I believe they can be convinced to moderate their overly restrictive rulings

You know, its not just a few "zealots" on 'land who are unhappy, there are many punters in many clubs (and other leagues) who are pizzed off too.

And don't believe the club is happy either, its just not the biggest item on their agenda and given they have to have a clash strip under the AFLs strict rules, they have to put a bit of happy-face and spin on it. They are hardly likely to announce a new clash jumper shortly and say they are unhappy about it are they? Expect a lot of spin.

The only club that would do what you want is collingwood

but the AFL will not bring on that fight.

The only other club that might do it is Carlton but I doubt it after the AFL looked the other way

on Visy and CJ.

If St Kilda rolls over after what I consider a good case I am afraid all is lost!

They effectively already do. white on black...black on white.... visual semantics !!

Daisycutter I do not consider you and others are Zealots.

I just think we get more excited than most clubs.

I went onto a couple of St Kilda sites this afternoon and could not find any comment about playing in the clash strip.

I think we have lost because the vast majority have excepted the "new order"

Good luck with your projects!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
