SEN / Miller Rumour

I doubt it will happen.

Slow news day and in this GC-tinged climate it's easy to whip people into a free-agent frenzy based on little fact and a lot of speculation.

Good luck to him if he does go, though.

Assume we get no compensation because we announced we're delisting him?

What would the compensation have been that we could miss out on? A pick at the end of round 5? Not losing any sleep over it personally.

We (the FD/Recruiters) would have had a fair idea as to what compensation we would receive. Personally, to keep Miller to receive this draft pick would have been humilitating to the man when he realises what he is actually worth.

Harsh but true.

Hardly a scoop and very much old news.

And unless something has changed in the past 4 weeks I dont think Miller will go due to settled interests here in Melbourne.

Actually I heard he was keen to go to Sydney (town) due to potential interests up there.

And I would have thought that any forthcoming contract at any club would be well received by Miller. 5050 he'll end up somewhere I would say. I hope he does, ripper bloke.

If Miller does end up signing with the Suns, then one positive for the MFC will be the fact that they won't be able to poach any of our other uncontracted players for free (well, before the AFL compensation anyway)... assuming we still have others uncontracted at present, that is...

Given we've already announced Miller's delisting, it would be a great result for the club when you consider the likes of Campbell Brown, Rischitelli, Bock etc who have all gone to the GC and their clubs will receive little in return.

Best of luck to Brad Miller. He's been a wonderful contributor to the club, always gave his all. I hope he gets another chance up north and I think he could still be a handy AFL player.

If the Suns do take Miller, it could turn out quite well for us.

He is an uncontracted player, so by the compensation rule we would have to receive a pick in return for them taking him.

Even the worst band is still a 3rd round draft pick, from memory.

We would be able to hang onto that until a deeper draft and use it in a year when we want to take more players.

Pretty handy in return for a bloke we were sending off into retirement.

SEN twitter indicates Miller may go to the Suns.

Best of luck to him. Imagine it would be a fairly easy decision for them. Relatively cheap, give him a couple of years.

They should hang about a bit, they can have Newton as well.

Miller will be a great leader to the young kids over at GC, from some of the Casey reports Miller was a great leader/role model to the young kids including Jack Watts. I hope he does well if he decides to move to GC.

Does anyone really care? He is not longer a Melbourne player, and the team obviously didn't want to risk signing him and not being able to find a trade, so they delisted. Couldn't care where he ends up.

He's not delisted - yet. He just wont be offered a new contract. IF GC want him and they don't want any other MFC OOC player then they can take him in their set of OOC players and we get compensation. If they want him, it's no cost to them - they don't supply the pick, the AFL does - otherwise they have to draft him or trade for him.

you make it sound like you have no understanding of the rules involved with signing and trading players.

I can confirm the Suns have interest in Miller and will probably take him.

I don't think we will be compensated as he is already delisted, further we could still lose another player to the Suns for the same reason.

He is not yet delisted.

Even if we were compensated, it'd likely be after the third round at the very, VERY earliest... which is a pick we wouldn't use anyway.

Maybe not this year.

But at some stage in the next 5 years we may come across a particularly deep draft in which we intend to use a handful of

picks and this could be quite handy.

Especially considering we weren't expecting to get anything, we merely weren't going to offer Brad a new contract.

Contracts run out end of October so all players are still contracted. Miller could in fact start training with the group next month. All players including Bell, Miller and Junior are heading to China. He may yet play one last game for the dees.

Would love to see millsy play in china.....that would be a cool send off. Brad is a good bloke so i wish him all the best.

Yes, I do like to hear stories like this.

If they are included on the trip it is a sign of respect, and perhaps a sign that the FD treats its players quite well, even when on the outer.

It is all part of building a good club culture, one that will make players want to play for us.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
