I did start the Quinten Lynch topic and will stick by my suggestion of recruiting Lynch if he come along cheaply...

However, if we are seriousley going to get a 'Big Fish' who is versatile and in our age bracket.

Mitch Clark is the man!

We woud have to trade a player(s) for him... So who do we trade?

Mathew Bate, Mathew Warnock? I would be prepared to part with Pick 12 and a player.

Can we do the double with Clark and Rischitelli?

Clark would be near on untouchable you would have thought, seeing as Voss traded away their other promising KPF in Henderson (what an idiot) with Cornelius being a bit of a project type, and Clark rucks as well. They'd want something pretty good, a Bate/Warnock type wouldn't cut it.

There is alot of unhappiness at the Lions! I think anybody is touchable except for Fev (nobody wants him) and Captain Brown!

Expect too see Power and/or Black change clubs! Thats my prediction. Lions in turmoil!

Clark only needs a great offer too want out. Lions going nowhere fast!

Interesting, as he could well be the exact type of player that we need... The bustling forward that can go into the ruck swapping with Jamar....

Do we want to trade out of the early stages of a draft that has been tagged as full of quality key position players?

Posted

Black & Power have been asked to take pay cuts. The Board and coaching staff are unhappy. Fev is a nightmare. Their other trades such as Dalziell, Buchanon, Staker, Xavier Clarke, Lachie Henderson have all been disasters.

Brennan and Rischitelli will go - both are unhappy and Rischitelli was almost offloaded to Carlton last year.

Brisbane are a basket case and there will be more players to leak out of there in the next two months.....

Granted that Buchanon and Clarke were bust trades but Dalziell did not show much in his first year in the West, partly due to injury and Henderson has only recently started to kick a few goals...

Staker has been brilliant for them this year as a switch hit player that can go forward as a big body or as a KPB...

Yep, Fev is a nightmare off the field but he is being payed for what he does on it.... He still kicked 48 goals from 17 matches..

There are quite a few things going on but it is not as bad as it is being beat up in the media....

He certainly is if you want our players to learn how to urinate on cigarette machines in hotels.

I think Staker's been great for them actually, 1 out of 5 or so ain't a bad strike rate haha

He is however the makings of a very good footballer IMO whom would be ideal as a backstop for Jamar and a target as a tall forward.

His value has just decreased, making it a lot easier for us to get him...

but a lot less likely for it to happen.

I would love to see Clark at Melbourne, but in reality I would say it's a 1 in a 100 chance at best... People win lotto every week though so you never know!

PS: Staker did have a good year...

That has been denied by Clark & Manager.

Clark's number 1 priority in life is not football, and doesn't have much confidence in finding himself playing AFL within the next 3 years. He has external interests that he would rather work on, and these will take priority over football.

Because I know this, I don't want him at Melbourne.

Sounds pretty nefarious. What "external interests" could a 22 yo full time AFL footballer have that would take priority?

Property development and making his directorial debut.

Clark was fantastic last season and would be an ideal player to switch hit in the ruck if he plays to his ability. But.....

With Brennan and Rischitelli already wanting out (and possibly Drummond), I wouldn't imagine they'll be actively seeking to trade players. Especially after copping so much flak last year. I reckon they'll be fairly conservative this time...

Plus we don't have any really tradeable players of the sort of currency the Lions'd be interested in for Clark...and I think we could also put pick 12 to better use too...

So- who do you suggest we look for at pick 12.

So- who do you suggest we look for at pick 12.

Its still probably a tad early, although i've speculated about this in the stickied post above.

I still think we need to address our delivery out of defence by finding a tallish player who is a creative user of the ball by foot, who also does the defensive tasks well. I mentioned that I thought Smedts and Heppell could be good options here, and are a fair chance to be available at pick 12.

Another one i've been contemplating may slide to us is Daniel Gorringe, the ruckman from SA. I think he's a top 10 talent, but the GC already have their ruck stocks sorted out (in terms of developing ruckmen, led by Zac Smith). The other 4 sides to have picks before us are West Coast, Richmond, Essendon and Brisbane.

WC already have Cox & Naitanui, Richmond have Graham, Browne and Vickery, Essendon have Hille, Ryder & Bellchambers, and Brisbane have Leuenberger, Clark & Charman, so none of those sides are really in need of a ruckman, but they could all do with some star midfield potential. If he did slide to us we'd surely have to pick him. He'd be perfect for working in tandem with Jamar/Gawn because he's very dangerous when pushed forward. He's not just a tap ruckman because he's terrific at ground level and he's also quite quick and skillful.

Pat McCarthy from SA is more of a KPD at 195cms, but he's quick, versatile and uses the ball well by foot. So he could be that 3rd tall defender behind Frawley & Garland and give us something a bit different.

Keiran Harper's another I like the look of, and he's from the same school as Blease & Gysberts came from (Yarra Valley Grammer) fwiw. Tallish, quick & skillful high-half forward/mid and you can never do with enough of those types...

Very well explained.

I don't think he will, because everything is so dependent on what GC17 will do.

I think he will truly go in there with a list of players, intending to take the highest one left on the board, and then will still be torn over a

decision and want to ask for extra time.

Anything could happen.

The guy cannot kick.

I would hate to see him and Watts fighting over the same ball, I'll be cheering for Watts to push him in the back, hit him over the head, trip him up, you see where I am going with this...

I would prefer Watts kicking at goal than Clark was where I was going.

This has been edited because I have an image to uphold - and that is rpfc doesn't make spelling mistakes.

Above that.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
