I feel melbourne deserve a B+...we have played extremely well as a team. The coaching staff have blooded some very tallented youth this year...some of which have developed...maturing players like Jamar have come of age and young gun frawley has stamped his name on the game as one of the most exciting, up and coming defenders in the comp.

The Stynes board has managed to make the melbourne football club debt free for the first time in 30 years...all of this is setting up season 2011 and beyond very exciting times for the melbourne football club...the games commentators have been saying we should be challenging for the 8 next year and a flag years beyond that. lets sit back and continue to enjoy the ride..

even though melbourne have a chance to make the 8 based on mathematics...i would change my vote to an A if this happend and upgrade it to A+ from there....but i'm forgetting about finals for 2010...

I rate them a B, the only real let down this season has been our performance against North and West Coast. We are starting to win games that we are expected to win and we challenged a few top teams. The next two weeks are important as again we are playing teams that we should beat.

I gave a B+ based on the year so far. If we fall away n these last two weeks I'd consider a B but considering the performances against collingwood and the bulldogs we have had a good season. Our target this year should have been to fight for the top 8 and this is where we are at, so we have achieved at least my goal for the year. Finals next year is my goal.

I've rated them a B. All in all it's been quite a good year on the field and a very good year off it (in fact with debt demolition and the stability of the administration I'd give the off field performance an "A").

Watching Trengove, Scully, McKenzie, Bail, Gisberts, Watts all debut (or sort of in the case of Bail and Watts)has added spice to the football viewing experience. And the maturing of Frawley, Grimes, Garland et al has been exhilarating.

The only real disappointments were those losses to North and Wet Toast.

Let's hope next year we don't do an "Essendon"!!!!!!!!!

B+ from me... That is because I am fairly confident we will break our Moron Park hoodoo this week... Some great gametime into our young boys and the backline is becoming a well oiled machine... Apart from a few moments of pain it has been an enjoyable season... The signs are there...

I could be seen to be too generous but i've given them an A for the main reason that they've achieved more than what i hoped for this season. I was hoping for at least 7-8 wins, we've won 8 1/2 with a chance to finish on 9 1/2 or 10 1/2 wins and just outside the 8. I was hoping we'd blood more youngsters and get them playing a solid amount of matches together - that step has also been completed. I hoped that we would be competitive in every game and avoid blowouts. We've had one blowout, round 1 v Hawthorn.

Off the field things are even better with new training facilities at AAMI Park, finanicial stability and real passion around the club. Not to mention the new Logo sets a benchmark for the rest of the league.

I've never been prouder as a supporter because the club has stuck to its guns, followed through on the plan it laid out 3 years ago, and it's reaping the rewards.

Just imagine in two years time when Watts, Trengove, Scully, Gysberts, Blease, Strauss, Tapscott, Fitzgerald, Jurrah, Aussie, Bennell, McKenzie, Gawn have all had two more good preseasons in them, there bodies are stronger and then we add Jack Viney!!!!

I'm not too fussed if we miss the 8 next year either, as long as we win around 10games again and keep getting experience into the young guys. In two years time however, i expect us to be pushing for a top 4 spot.

Wasn't there a thread like this re: expectations before the season commenced?

It'd be interesting to bump that and compare actual performance to expected... If anyone can be bothered finding it.

B+ from me for on field anyway. It's an A+ for the off field - AAMI stadium move, better communication from the club, the Emblem and of course the debt demolition.

The on field will go to an A if we can break the AAMI hoodoo and would have been an A+ if it wasn't for that god awful West Coast game.

Been a fantastic season IMO. Anyone can see the talent we have and exciting as the seasons will be when there is greater expectation, the start of the journey where there is little expectation can be the most enjoyable times.

This season I have enjoyed more than any since, probably 2002.

At the start of the season I wondered what would be a good measurement - wins, Q's won, competiteveness, development of players etc

In the end I thought the simplest measurement would be points percentage and I plucked 90%+ out of the air

Currently we are sitting on about 97% which I think is quite remarkable from the previous 3 years.

It needs to be stressed though that a B+ rating is only a reflection of where we have come from and what my expectations were

Its certainly not a stand-alone rating against all teams

In summary, a great year, exceeding (realistic) expectations and certainly promising better things

I've gone with an A.

AT the start of the season I said that 6-7 wins would be a pass, if barely, and 8-9 would be a good year. Here we sit on 8 1/2 wins with two winnable (if dodgy) games left to go. Not only that, but we've come within a hair of knocking off Collingwood twice and the Bulldogs once. 6 more points and we would now be on 11 wins. The team has shown some real improvement and is now starting to implement the game plan. Teams are beginning to fear the MCG, so we once more have an actual home ground advantage. And let's not forget we handed out a legitimate thrashing to the Swans, who are a certainty to play finals. We also smashed the undefeated Brisbane side earlier in the year and followed up by beating them on their own ground.

This has been a year of huge positives for us, and I can't wait to see what we do next season.

Bailey said at the start of the year he'd like to see 50% improvement each year. 4 wins in 2009 becomes 6 in 2010, then 9, then 13 and a half... then football heaven.

Let's not forget that at the start of the year people were picking us conservatively as 15th. Nowhere near the hunt for finals. Think back to how we were all bracing ourselves, and warming up our senses of humour for the coming season, when we saw how we performed in the pre-season comp, and then in round one, we were wondering where we'd find those wins.

If Bailey's 6 wins had eventuated, I'd have given us a B, maybe a C+ depending on the circumstances.

As it is I've gone for a B+. You can't give an A of any kind to a team that didn't make finals. That seems a bit off.

But I think we deserve the highest marks for a team who just missed. Just scratch the surface and you see that there are dozens of reasons why we deserve to be talked about. We found a ruck division somehow, our midfield performed admirably despite being mostly teenagers. Our defence is now top 6... Likely to be top 4 soon when other areas of the field relieve the pressure. Our forward line was a real worry 2 months ago, and suddenly we've found names most of us are confident are going to stick around for a few years.

Our form line has been, for the first time in my life as a demon supporter, absolutely consistent. You can read easily where we're good, and where we're bad.

In short everything is progressing as we'd hoped. And just missing finals was, for most, as good as it could have ended up for us this year.

Definitely an A. Exceeded my expectations, and I expect us now to end on 10 wins. We could have been playing finals football, and came close to beating the premiership favourites twice (and were the better team on both days). To say any less than A is to say that we should be higher on the ladder, 6th or 5th, and I think those expectations are a little too high. Still a year off finals football. Won't be playing them this year, but we'll return next year.

I reckon a D- is a just pass, premiership is an A+. I said preseason 6-8 wins would be a pass. If we drop our last 2 it drops back to a C.

B. We still have some problems with turning up to play and kick outs etc BUT we have come a long way this year and I am pretty happy with what we have done this year.

Off Field the MFC gets an A+ (that includes supporters)

On Field a B- The West Coast, North, Carlton & Adelaide games were unacceptable considering the games we played against The Filth & the Western Dogs.

But great positive steps were taken.

Next year is a Big one. The Honeymoon is over. We must start to Beat Top Sides next year.

A Close loss is not good enough, regardless of the situation.

Watch the way Geelong destroyed Footscray last week Demons. That's the Level you must aim for next year & Future Years-not just for one week, but set that level as Par.

If all the Team is Ready to pull in the exact same direction, it can be done.

Geelong are in year 4 & look set for a few more yet.

Next year we start the Journey to the Top-anything less is a Failed year.

I gave a B for field effort and for the off field endeavors an A+. The efforts of Jimmy and his team has been fantastic and I am sure will continue on into the future years. The football department led by Dean Bailey, Chris Connelly and their staff is also worth an A+, this includes recruiting and the management and training of the younger brigade of players, they have been handled with great expertise. At the beginning of the season I thought that if we won eight games the season would be a success and we have reached that target with the hope of another one or two wins by seasons end.If we win these two games I would say that a B+ would be a better score

B+ - For where we're at . If we had've taken down the Pies it woulda been an A .
