I'm sick of the 'he's still skinny' excuse. You're not going to become brave just because you put on a few kilo's. Petterd and Frawley never went through this '[censored] stage' and they were skinny when first drafted. Lynden Dunn has never taken a backward step despite being skinny. Danny Hughes too, despite only playing the 1 game never takes a backward step. He is slim. Bartram too in his first year. I think Watts will be a good player but being courageous will not be one of his assets. I would suggest a Riewoldt without the courage is his potential.

Funny, when Riewoldt started out, everyone said he was without courage.

I would suggest a Riewoldt that is better at ground level and far more reliable when trying to hit a target , Goal or player . Not sure if his contested marking will be as good but I see Riewoldt as the best in the comp in that dept. If he isn't quite as good in the air ... too bad .

Its going to quite interesting how views will have changed for some in a years time !!

Watts is a work in progress.. and he'll have progressed a bit by this time next year.

Find it somewhat amusing that he's expected to have arrived when hes really only just got here !

Give Watts a break in comparing him to Riewoldt and likes...

He is 19 and has played one season against seasoned players.

I have no doubt he will become a fantastic player. Give him a little time.

Hearing opposition players bag him out week after week is just laughable too me. They will eat there shorts very soon.

Watts up!

Dunn is tough as guts. Solid unit and not afraid to use his size to advantage - it's just starting to come to fruition now.

BUT... I can't recall Dunn ever being "skinny"??

Lynden Dunn has never taken a backward step despite being skinny.

It was just in his early years he was reluctant to take a forward step when necessary.

Welcome back Freak. Nathan Bock is off to GC. He is apparently on a good contract. Was the house meant for Ablett jnr bought for Bock?

You can't be serious.

Dunn has came a long way, but up until this year he avoided all physical contests.

That is probably why he was given tagging roles and dropped to Casey, so he can work on his physicality.

Oh and don't confuse being a shite and managing to draw free kicks, with being tough. He is an annoying back-chatter on the field, but he isn't tough. Mind you, he does put himself in contests now, which is a really good step and one of the key reasons for his rapid improvement.

Just goes to show that you can't buy bravery, but you can force yourself to become more attacking.

Bit of light-hearted humour I was referred to not long ago. Kind of funny. Gotta laugh at these things while they're young and not be too serious about it all. We'll be laughing when he's the next N. Riewoldt though ;)

P.S. There's a fair few more of "Joke Watts" vids out there on the Tube. Sorry to all those precious Wattsy fans out there. Thought we'd better have a bit of an intermission though...

Watt's is a kid learning to play like a man.

Once he works it out, the upside and improvement will be massive, and it will happen quickly.

His potential, and gradual improvement is unquestionable.........I think Watt's will end up being an absolute star!

WTF is Brad Miller doing in that last video? Not providing an option, no sheparding, getting in the way and then missing a tackle on Medhurst.

A few extra kilos and he'll slam that 1st goal and dish the don't argue in the second clip .

thats one thing Miller consistently does.... run into our own players, rnd 1 this year where he slammed into Bate and Bate had to come off with the blood rule.

GREAT call. If Miller did the right team thing in the 2nd clip, Watts could have quite easily had more time and space to make a decision.

It's great to see that people can have a bit of a laugh about Wattsy and not be overly sensitive and too serious about it all.

All in good fun :)

“There was never really any doubt that Jack would stay at Melbourne from this point and he is excited about what the club is doing with so many top young players there.”

BRILLIANT NEWS - bollocks to the critics like that peanut Walls.

The kid is the future of the forward line, and a superstar in the making.

Three years aswell, apparently. Also mentions Bate re-signing - also good stuff. ^_^

Good-o. I look forward to seeing him develop into a powerhouse during this contract.

That house is for Brad Miller, or actually Pia.

McKenna is trying to make a move.

On a separate note, I love me a Jack Watts thread. Definitely long overdue for one.

I reckon it's gotta be on an ancient Indian burial ground or something, cos everyone that's planned to move in ends up pulling the pin.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
