Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What happened to Morton?

I think someone already said in another post that he was an emergency so was at the 'G ready to go in case another player pulled up sore during the warm-up given that Moloney was already likely to pull out (and earmarked to be replaced by Jones) and hence didn't play for Casey.

Cheers. Must be close to selection then you'd reckon. Interesting selection quandries with the MFC site suggesting Grimes might be a chance to return (though you'd have to think he'll come thru Casey, easy to forget with him being out for our last 3 and a half wins how important he had been for our backline early on so perhaps there will be a temptation to play him if he's fit) and Miller surely some chance on the back of 10 goals (keeping in mind he was also listed as an emergency)

His knee is still a bit of an issue so maybe they are giving him a bit of R & R

He's being passed by a bus load of players who will get in the Gym.

I'm now sick of the "get into the gym" talk regarding Cale.

If he's like me, he can do all the gym work in the world and eat everything possible but will struggle to put on weight. It's called a "hard gainer" or, if to be more precise, having a fast metabolism. It's something out of his control. I understand his position!

Please. If your body naturally burns off 5000 calories a day, then there's something wrong with you. The problem with Cale is that they don't want him to lose his endurance. If he locks himself in the gym all day every day and eats eats eats, pretty soon his running ability would begin to deteriorate, and one of his great strengths would be gone.

There was a twitter talk between the boys (exageration or not) that seems to assume cale should eat a hell of a lot more, the big boys beamer, sylvia etc apparently eat shite loads more then morton. Nothing to do with body me thinks

I don't buy that for a second.

I think he can get bigger, and he needs to get bigger. Cale atm looks like he has mild anorexia. He makes Cam Bruce look huge. I refuse to believe that he's made getting physically bigger a priority. I think he's put it on the backburner and assumed it will just come naturally.

What he needs to do, is eat [censored] loads, pump some iron, and realise that if he doesn't get to a competitive body weight, he'll never reach his potential. Atm, while other players are able to shrug off light tackles, Cale gets ragdolled by the slightly of tackles. It makes him a liability in defence and up forward.

And concerns that he'll lose pace, or agility, or endurance are not well-founded. Frawley has put on 20kg in the last 2-3 years and hasn't lost any pace. Dane Swan is one of the fittest and fastest guys in the league and he's ripped. As is Ben Cousins, who has the best endurance in the afl.

I think part of the reason he's been dropped is that he needs to work on his defensive skills, and he'll never be competitive in that department until he is big and strong enough to tackle, take contested marks, and shrug off tackles.

I think Morton has the skills and ability to be a superstar of the afl. I have faith in him. But he has to own the gym over the next couple of years or he won't reach those heights. It's as simple as that.

Should be in the team (based on 08 and 09) but isn't. I predicted after the 2nd Collingwood game that he'd turn out to be our best draft pick from the last 4 years. Probably one of our rare bad news stories for the year, but the knee injury didn't help.

Hopefully he'll come back next year and own a spot in the 22.

I don't buy THIS for a second.

I used to think the same thing, until I was shown some information by a poster on here. I did some research into body types at the time and found something like this:

http://www.bodybuildingpro.com/bodytypeinformation.html

I remember studying it at school, and Cale fits the "Ectomorph" type to a tee.

Also, I hear that since he's been a the club he's done nothing but eat and train. He's just making very, very slow progress. He should talk to his brother, who actually played pretty well on the weekend and is actually pretty damn big these days.

You are right about his defensive skills. I hear rumblings from good sources that Cale has gotten a bit ahead of himself. Take from that what you will.

Agree DD. A few posters could do the same research and not reflect an ignorant view that stereotypes body types.

How is this for the hard truth.

Body aside (couldn't care less to 'weigh in' on the issue- boom boom) his injury set back has kept him from performing at his best, and he is not currently in our best 22.

Absolutely on the money. I'm a physiotherapist, and can tell you that not only will EVERY effort be made to improve Cale Morton's muscle mass, but that they will have an acute understanding of his physiology. His endurance capacity is married to a predominance of 'slow-twitch' fibres in his muscle make up (the converse being 'fast-twitch'...see Olympic sprinters). They don't increase volume to anywhere near the degree that fast-twitch do, and thus his weight gain will be slow, hard and ultimately not that impressive. It will happen however.

This seems about closest to the reality of things. I semto recall Gotch thinking he needs to improve a little ...as per :

" I still would have liked to have seen a little bit more intensity as far as pressure on the opposition, and that’s probably why he’s a bit down at the minute. He’s just got to add that to his game a lot more."

Needs to be a little more bi-drectional in efforts. Ability , talent in spades....apllication needs augmenting. he'll be back

Rather than comparing Cale's body type and size to Mitch Morton's, I think a better comparison is his other brother Jarryd at Hawthorn, who is a similar height (191cm to Cale's 192cm) and build (87kg to Cale's 83kg). Bearing in mind that Cale is two years younger, it's probably realistic to think that in 2 years time Cale will have a build closer to that of Jarryd Morton's which would be reasonable.

I think we sometimes forgot, that despite the fact he's been around for a few years now. The kid is still just 20 years old!

Yes we do overlook some of these guys ages at times .

Another aspect is it's very rare for anyone to maintain a particular rate of development. Some of these guys will ebb and flow a bit on their way up. Cales a bit flat currently but like many others will spark again. Think forward and another year and 20 odd games ought have him in sparking Nick with prob a bit more meat to boot.

Yep. He's had his moments this year but he doesn't look 100%. Let's see how he looks after next years pre-season before we worry.

I don't know whether he is confident or happy with his body size, but he doesn't play like he is.

He rarely looks for body contact and I have not seen a "Gee, that was tough" moment from him this year whereas I have from the equally skinny and young Jack Watts.

He has problems with his defensive work, but I need him to show more physicality.

I think he needs a more solid body to play regularly under Bailey.

Good luck to the nutritional staff.

I was the same, similar in my early 20's. Couldn't put on weight/muscle, or so i thought, but the gym instuctor thought my Lats were coming along well. I gave it away soon after.

Around 22 I started to grow.

I'm sure Cale would be able to at least get some little bulk & some definition during the off season - pre season. He'd better as I think he's being passed by, by other players who'll take the wings & flanks with more (Blease & Tapscott) soon to press, 2011. There's more coming in than leaving the club.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
