Great. Can't wait for another week at work full of patronizing comments such as: 'Gutsy effort by you guys.. I reckon you'll be alright in a couple of years'.

I want to win NOW.

Dammit - Watts could have been the star!

They missed plenty as well though.

Commentators said Bate was good. I disagree - Although he seems to be the only hit-up man, he rarely does anything smart with it.

Keep him in but god he is frustrating.

Another 100 shots after training for Lynden Dunn as well. So inconsistent. That was a gimme.

Just another 'shouldabeen' game.

Annoying.

We had no right to win that game.

You don't turn up for half a game and expect to win, especially at Subiaco.

If we don't learn from this, we never will. It's unacceptable to play like rubbish for a half then decide to turn up in the third quarter. The game was lost 10 minutes into the first quarter, as it was on Queens Birthday and against the Dogs, and in every other game where we started like shite.

On the plus side, Scully, McKenzie and Frawley were enormous. Watts was very good too. Had he kicked those 2 goals he would be close to our best IMO. Worked incredibly hard, made very good leads, and some of his footwork was beautiful to watch. He was everything that Bate wasn't today (and Bate needs to go to Casey next week for a spell).

Bring back Junior, Trengove and Grimes ASAP. We could use some more class and leadership, and those 3 are players who don't roll over and play dead for half a game.

Infuriating!!!

I can't help it, but well done PJ, by far his best and most skillfull effort.

..

Pretty sure there's going to be a certain amount of venting after a loss, no matter how it occurred.

Should we all hold hands raise a glass and cheer an honorable loss like happy little robots?

I guarantee the players won't be sitting in the rooms feeling 'happy' and neither should we.

Yes it was a good effort but a dismal start. Give people at least 24 hours to get over it.

[censored] you. Seriously, [censored] you

Completely sick of the negativity on this site. If you can't be happy with losing by only 10 points to a top four side at their home ground where you have a shocking record and you are a bottom eight side, then I don't think you should be posting on this site (not you agent orange, everyone in general)

Sorry, but if our club is content with that, we will never be a force and we'll never win a flag.

We have to address our horrible starts. If we can kick 8 goals in a row against a top 4 team on their home ground, imagine what we can do if we play FOUR QUARTERS of football. We've lost so many games this year because we've come out napping.

There is no point being content with that sort of effort. Yes, it was great that we fought back instead of getting done by 140 points, but we still walk away with a loss. A loss that, clearly, could have been a win had we played for 4 quarters.

We could match them, and have shown to be able to match most sides this year, but for very brief periods of time. Even last week, we let a horrible Essendon kick plenty of junk time goals. It's not acceptable and we shouldn't continue to reward players with a slap on the back for narrow losses, which could have quite easily been turned into wins.

Where the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck was that intensity in the first half??

PJ was very good. I thought he go us back into the game. Our backline stood up very well. We were very stiff with some umpiring decisions i thought. Jamar and Sandilands had a very good battle.

And on Jimmy the thing that made him strong was Northey havin a massive go at him. Hopefully Dean does the same thing, not this tapping him on the bum crap saying well done!

F*** that we should win!!!

We apply ourselves and we can take down the Bulldogs, Pies, Freo, genuinely good teams! We can win these games, we shouldn't be complacent or make excuses (and I've read one million posts on all our reasons for losing).

There are no more draft picks to get. There are no excuses for missing easy set shots. We should be winning these games now.

They instill confidence, boost membership, provide incentive for people to get on board the club, make us happy during our weeks! It's been three and a half years of garbage.

We should have snatched that game.

As long as they learn from that experience its a win.

As corny as that may sound, it will help them learn to deal with pressure, and make them realise you cant turn up for half a game of football and walk away with 4 points.

Though PJ and Scully were great, Watts worked hard, just needs to work on his hand skills, and coping with pressure, but that will come with time. A shame him or Dunn couldnt have slotted one of those two goals, but as has been said, we did not deserve to win. Hopefully Junior and Trengove in next week. Play like we did in the second half for 3 quarter's and we will beat the Swans. Don't think too much of them beating Carlton, Carlton are a rabble.

If Bate does not get dropped I will go heave. Has been so average for so long.

Who for? And don't say Anybody.... how about being constructive and coming with a solution. We don't have many options for his position in the magoos, and don't say Miller, that's over with.

And therein lies the problem as i repair the holes punched in the wall.

That is what THIS side needs to learn. Intensity and effort must last for 4 quarters. A pre-season of gut busting high intensity work may be required to drill into these blokes that everything they do needs to be done as if a grand final rested on it.

They will learn............. i think.

Watts, along with Frawley, Scull and a couple of others dragged Melbourne back into that game. Perhaps people will start to believe now instead of potting this kid whenever they get a chance.

In the cold light of day the losing margin will be respectable but the first half won't be.

Hopefully INTENSITY is the theme of the post match analysis.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
