Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

YAWN.

Interesting to hear Grant Thomas last night on FC say without hesitation that he was far from surprised by the Dees performance in Adelaide because it was consistent with all young teams when coming off a week's break.

Not something I've ever noticed personally, but he said it matter-of-factly to indicate it is a trend he's definitely come to notice and is predictable.

(possibly just as predictable as MFC getting thumped in SA)

Absolutely agree. Can't hang a person for being passionate and as a result being disappointed with yesterday.

7-8 weeks without a win should challenge everyone and appart from the Collingwood ok result, seems to me performance has declined abruptly. Can't imagine this will be lost on the board who are ultimately accountable. They structured the club, appointed the coaches, recruiting staff etc.etc. So when they sit down to do their next review , they will no doubt canvass total club operations and performance. Off the field the results would seem to speak for themselves and the great man clearly galvanised the whole place. Wonder how he felt yesterday?

In the end though, everything hangs off the playing direction the club is headed. That's what everything is all about. We simply want success and to be part of a successful club.

We as supporters / members have been and continue to be patient, looking for the light at the end tunnell. We knew the journey would take time and have its ups and downs. But I'm not sure how the coaching staff/recruiters could explain a continuance of the recent decline in the second half, after such a promising start in the first. What's changed?

We were told our list is good ( young yes I agree but so are Roos, Essendon's and Richmond's who all currently have momentum)Further we were told that was needed was games played and maturity?

Our injuries have been no worse than others.

So fear not about being passionate, I think you have a case and frankly would be quite surprised otherwise. It is not hard to see who is underperforming. We can kid ourselves if we like. The coaching staff have been given an opportunity second to none with draft picks over the past three years. Pretty soon if not already, surely it's reasonable that weekly incremental improvement should be evident.CC put them on notice to some degree I thought.

Nonetheless the effort wasn't there by many yesterday and hasn't been for a few weeks. Geelong beat us up, Carlton beat us up, Adelaide were harder at the footy than us. How do you reckon St.Kilda will come at us?

Have to agree with your comments I reckon you were on the money.

At the end of the day we have won one and half games by a total of a point in the last 8 weeks....

Not good enough and I would have expected to be at the very least more competitive for longer periods of games.

Break it down - Round 2 against the pies, we played what was probably our best game as far as opposition effort etc and broke even in most categories. Brisbane game was great but I don't think there was a lot of resistance from them that night. Richmond was a nice win after we broke some early cob webs. The Adelaide game at the G....wasn't a great game really and IMO Adelaide could have had us in a much more precarious position by half time than they did, they had no bench in the 2nd half and it was just as well we did win that game.

The Port game was good even accounting for the fade out, we still hit back and got over the line.

The Collingwood draw was great and the effort was there, we still should have been blown away but bad kicking is bad football.

The dogs game was a ripper and we let that slip.

What has happened to the ferocious tackling and pressure we applied in the first half dozen games? The axing of Jordie McKenzie...what was all that about as IMO he has not quite been the same on his return.

There has been some positives, plenty actually but there has been just as many negatives. Yes it is to be expected but I would have hoped for a bit more improvement than shown.

The last 2 mths have been very poor.

We have some winnable games in the last 9......2 wins and a competitive edge in the others I will settle for, not asking for miracles. If we finish only a win or so above Richmond, even WCE......it would be a season of very little improvement.

I've been wondering exactly the same thing! What's happened to that great tackling at the start of the year, and what's happened to Jordie since his axing? Quite perplexing!

Oh, and on thread -- condolences to you Adelaide dwellers. Living in SE Qld, and the thumpings by the Lions over the years, I kinda understand where you're coming from!

Missed FC, so thanks for Thomas' input. I wonder what the record is two weeks after a break with a young side ? ;)

Funnier things have happened.

I will probably get shot down for this topic, but seriously, I don't give a toss!!

To all Melbourne players.... You have members who live in Adelaide.... We spend year upon year giving $hit to the locals about how crap they are and how when Melbourne come to town, they will beat the living suitcase out of the Crows & Power....

Fair dinkum Dees.... Put up a fight goddamn it!! This is beyond a joke.... Get some heart!! Apart from a few players in the side who are SA bred, you have no idea what it is like living amongst these ferals.... SA based MFC members look forward to the games at AAMI every year and unfortunately, what you serve up time and time again is an absolute disgrace to the jumper!

Have a go at my post if you must, I don't really care.... but try living in this $hithole year in and year out..... The people of SA have absolutely no respect for the MFC and nor should they, with what they see each time my beloved side travel over the border!

Hang your heads Melbourne..... Hang your heads!

End of rant..... And abuse me all you like Demonlanders.... I pay my membership each and every year like every one of you.... I don't give a crap if you think I am not a true supporter.... I challenge any one of you to try and tell me I am not a born and bred Dees supporter!!

This is getting beyond a joke!

Hear hear!

One day I'll fly to Mars, when that day comes we'll win a first quarter and beat a team at AAMI Stadium... it might be a SANFL team, it might be a Little League game, but by god I will see us win in South Australia again before I die.

I love you 'Jaded', your a beauty since not shackled by Moderation. I had a great laugh with your great sense of humour. fantastic.

Please spare a thought for those of us in the west who will turn up at Subi on July 18 for what will probably be a belting!

Strangely, we have a much better record at Subi than Adelaide. I just can't explain why we have so much trouble in even being competitive at AAMI stadium. Now don't get me wrong, I didn't say we have a GOOD record at Subi.

Compared to our AAMI record, much better!

Much better ?! For interests sake let us look at the stats for say the last 10 encounters at Subiaco (5x Freo/5x WCE): -

2009 - West Coast 90....Melbourne 82 - Margin (-)8 points

2008 - Fremantle 114....Melbourne 68 - Margin (-)46 points

2007 - West Coast 137...Melbourne 60 - Margin (-)77 points

2007 - Fremantle 144....Melbourne 85 - Margin (-)59 points

2006 - Fremantle 96.....Melbourne 67 - Margin (-)29 points

2006 - West Coast 97....Melbourne 75 - Margin (-)22 points

2005 - Fremantle 101....Melbourne 76 - Margin (-)25 points

2004 - West Coast 107...Melbourne 67 - Margin (-)40 points

2004 - Fremantle 62.....Melbourne 93 - Margin (+)31 points

2003 - West Coast 143...Melbourne 91 - Margin (-)52 points

Avg losing Margin to Fremantle - 39.8 points

Avg losing Margin to West Coast - 39.8 points

Won 1 out of our last 10 encounters at Subiaco.

In my opinion that is just as deplorable as the AAMI record, even though marginally better. Certainly not much better !

edit:

I missed the 2006 Semi Final v Fremantle @ Subiaco above:

Fremantle 102....Melbourne 74 - Margin (-)28 points

Yeah, because the chief concern of the Marketing & Comms Manager is how the players perform at AAMI Stadium and once she is informed that the fans of the team actually don't like losing, she'll mention that at the next meeting with the football department and everything will change.

I don't like it when we lose either.

I too would prefer it if we won each week.

Can we rename the thread, "I like it when we win and don't like it when we lose"???

In all seriousness, i've been following this club for over 40 years. I'd like to see them win a flag before I die. Chronic pain punctuated with fleeting pleasure in this time. I used to think every year we are only a few seasons away from a win. Then the years mount, 10, 20 of shame for the club and in 87 after 23 years, wow! maybe. Sure we will win one soon. No, maybe next year, then the next and the next and the next then 10 years later hope bubbles again but no. A few years later we run into the Bombers. Another 10 years and more misery we are now here. Everything looks promising again. But the playing culture remains the same. I may not get to see the Demons next flag but you young ones be prepared to wait 40 years or maybe never for your chance. It's not going to happen until the team changes it culture and play winning effort football every effing week of the season.

As one of the apologists., I'll have a go......I assume that you are still working, do you work to the same standard everyday, or do you have the occasional off day, did you have a job at 18-19 where the outside pressure to perform your job perfectly was enourmous and if you didn't you could hear the howling........do you work in a team where all 21 of your work colleagues have to perform to their best at exactly the same time as you to achieve the result you are looking for....the past is the past, the club is going forward, I am now focussing on next Sunday to farewell a great champion of the club, we have improved with the occasional glitch...next season will be better and we will improve even more, again with the occasional glitch....every club has them but the less you have the better, Collingwood played like absolute champions at the weekend didn't they?..........if you are gooing to support MFC...support

Yes I work and of course I have bad days but not when it counts or every other day. Collingwood can afford an off day or two. They've already done all the hard work to get to the top. As can Geelong also. Every no show by us is a step backwards and mostly has nothing to do with off days. There is a regular pattern of bad habits in commitment to interstate games and with moderate sides which we have a realistic chance of beating going back for decades.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
