i read an article in Inside Footy on Carltons mistake in throwing big money at Robbie Warnock, who has been overtaked by Sam Jacobs as second ruck and is languising in the reserves

Good to see the blues make mistakes with drafting, and thanks for Gyberts as well :P

I swear there was a thread with the exact same title and the exact same topic from round 2...

It's not a big mistake, only $1.6 million over 4 years.

We would have made the same mistake, except he probably would be getting a game for us.

I wouldn't completely give up on him yet, although the fact he is getting paid a similar amount to what Gary Ablett has over the last few years is embarrassing for him.

Colossal mistake would be closer to the mark. 4 years they have to blow cash on a kid who's not up to it. Disaster.

I'm still not sure if that is funnier or if Collingwood having 3 first round picks as ruckmen is.

Hmmm. I'm calling it a draw at the moment.

We were after him as well, he could have been on our list right now...

On progress to date its been a poor investment and they have got little.

I am glad MFC did not get him on that basis. Not happy to give long contracts to unproven players.

We were after him as well, he could have been on our list right now...

But not at that price and length of contract.

This might be a bullet missed by MFC.

We seemed to have done well in the past few years in different situations

1. Warnock

2. Prismall

3. McLean

4. TJ

5. 2009 PP

You missed 2008 PSD

I think he meant in list management terms not drafting terms. In that light, 2008 PSD was just a very fortunate consequence, but wasn't really the core outcome. Edit: or maybe not :)

On a side note, how much has Barry Prendergast been KotD since being in the job? Watts, not having to make the choice between Scully and Trengove, having Liam Jurrah fall in to his lap... Lucky bloke.

BP still gets a big tick for late picks like McKenzie, Bennell & Jetta, who have all been very handy at times and will continue to be going forward.

Of course, we have been in the 'fortunate' position of being able to play and develop these kids from day dot.

In the end recruiters like BP always have and always will be judged based on their choices that turn out to be failures.

So far he has had none Jury is out on Blease & Strauss for a start.

(I know Blease has been a lot of bad luck, but over time that has mattered little in regards to the Molan selection).

In any case he has made no glaring mistakes, even if that is too hard to judge yet.

Rohan Bail has looked okay to date.

Knew I was forgetting one.

Thing is, we really don't have a second ruck, so he would slot nicely into our 22...well, not nicely, it means taking somebody out of the team, which is hard enough already

Knew I was forgetting one.

You forgot another two who were picked up by Carltank ---

Mrs Judd (not sure whether she was first round draft pick or PSD??) :) and

Her son Chris - Not a bad player but looking like MFC better off not getting him as would have had to give up at least a couple of our young guns.

I think he will turn out ok for them! They have deffinetly paid over the odds but they did that on reletavily untried talent, i would really like too have him in our team right now (no wear near the price carlton payed) as Johnson and Meeson are not playing and have struggled, Spencer is a long way off and Gawn is a long term (very exciting) prospect. Warnock would most likely get a game with us, he is missing out at carlton because the other Ruckman are playing well!

Robbie will be a fine ruckman. I would chase him. Cut his wage bill by a quarter, a second round draft pick or/and someone like Addam Maric, maybe a Strauss to get the deal down.

Would take him for a second rounder

Need a ruckman and both clubs rated him highly and he would allow Jamar to push forward.

Both clubs rating him highly means he has to be at least ok, just needs a couple of full seasons and no injuries.

Think the talent is there.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
