Apologies if it's already been mentioned. I couldn't see a thread to that effect.

Yes, I heard it announced last night. As much as I hate Quarterbrain, I'll make an effort tonight.

Sportsbet will no doubt have odds on how many questions will get asked before one about Jack Watts

It will be interesting to see what he's got to say about where he thinks we are at. He seems very disappointed in his press conference on Saturday!

I'd reckon 2 questions before they ask about JW.

Just saw on our list of kids under 50 games they put up...

TrengRove

Warnock...

Seriously, how hard is it to look up something like that?

No its a fair call, so many of our young list are yet to play at all so we must have patience-but it is a balance act as last saturday proved.

The natives in the crowd were definately restless.

Most interesting part about the interview was him listing who has leadership potential at the club. In no particular order he listed Trengove, Scully, Watts, Grimes, Moloney, Davey and Rivers

Said Moloney, Davey and Rivers have really come on as leaders in the last 2 seasons, and that Trengove, Scully, Watts and Grimes all have good leadership backgrounds in their junior years (Scully and Grimes captained Vic Metro, Trengove captained SA and Watts captained his school).

Also said that we'll see Gysberts "a terrific young mid" soon.

I thought that was the best bit of the interview too. To me he seemed lukewarm to the idea of one of the younger guys being captain and couldn't get Brent Moloney's name out fast enough, but I'm probably reading too much in to it.

I think you're right.

I'm not a fan of the "in-between" captain, but based on that I can't see Bailey giving Grimes a captaincy role anytime soon. But on the other hand I also can't see him giving Green the role either.

Dean Bailey doesn't appoint the captain, it's voted on by the full playing group with no Board or Football Department input.

The players vote for a leadership group and the football department chooses the ultimate captain and the structure of the group as far as I know.

Happy to be proven wrong on this though.

IIRC, he actually said Gysberts was an 'outstanding' young mid. On my, albeit very subjective, list I'd have 'outstanding' ahead of 'terrific' - especially from a coach.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
