That was the single worst game of football I've ever seen and would go down in the top-5 of all time. A dark day for MFC in all senses of the word.

Whilst we might have gotten within a couple of goals in the last we were never going to win it and Adelaide could've won by another 6 if they'd really wanted to.

1640 on a late Sunday afternoon. The whole event was torpid.

If it wasn't for the energy we used jeering Nathan Bock we'd have frozen to death.

Also witnessed the very public rending of confidence from a footballer in Michael Newton's kicking for goal that night. His 15m, 45 degree angle banana kick miss was amazing.

I'll never forget it. :(

Certainly one match for the M.Newton archives.

Newton was at his absolute worst that day. Missed two or three absolute sitters.

I remember going on my own and laughing to myself that, even though at half-time we were goalless, we were still in with a chance. And with 5 minutes remaining, we still could have won.

Joke of a game.

Hopefully this Sundays game won't be as bad.

I hate Newton and wish he was delisted. His performance that evening was up with the single worst performances in AFL history.

However, if he is ever going to berry his demons (for a lack of a better word) he has an opportunity this weekend. A match winning performance would be a fairytale and would go a long way to setting up his career.....

Ok maybe I am dreaming...... but the opportunity of a fairytale exists and that opportunity does not present itself every week.

Dare to dream.

Look we still owe the Froot Loops a pounding for that Semi Final Loss in 2002.

Do it for the Big Jimma Demons. I want to see Adelaide 0-3 on Sunday night.

having watched the replay yesterday of lastweek, Newton wasn't bad. He certainly provided a target upforward and used his leap effectively when in the ruck. The most frustrating thing about his game was his inability to take pack marks, something in the past has been one of his fewstrengths. If he can get that right and go harder at the ball, he could be very effective particularly if we continue to deliver quality ball into the forward line like we did last week. He just mightsurprise us all asthe overall team improves often individual players improve with them

That's how I felt, he didn't do a lot, but what he did do he did pretty well. I thought at the very least he provided a solid target and for the first time he looks to have bulked up well.

Fruit.

Not sure what was more disappointing, that loss or the amount of hair I pulled out that night.

TJ - definitely not a gut busting runner that night. Played well during the game when the side was hot, but ... down hill skier.

Am I the only Melbourne supporter who thought the Adelaide game last year was absolutely fascinating in terms of the strategy employed by both teams?

Look, it was a shocking night for footy so we were never going to see a free flowing spectacle. Accordingly, it turned into a war of attrition and both teams gave plenty. Tactically, I thought it was interesting in that we virtually conceded our attacking half of the ground when the Crows had the ball and dared them to break through a zone at the other end. They struggled to do so.

While the goalkicking was appalling from both teams on the night - and Newton's contributions have been noted above - I don't think the game was anywhere near as bad as some suggest.

It didn't conform to most people's notion of a good game of football, but it was a fantastic contest.

Wouldn't say he was a downhill skier that night - he just wasn't fit enough. Say all you like about mental fortitude - you can't gut run when your body gives up.

However, had he done a bit more gut running in the pre-season, he might have been able to play that final term and it might have been a different result!

Needs to put some muscle on > hit the bench press and get in the ring.

Must say, things look better when you have the good delivery of Trengove & McKenzie hitting targets i50.

Seems to me that while Melbourne's team will be significantly different to the one it fielded last year i.e. at least 8 changes, the Adelaide line up won't be that much different. Just a few players.

All depends on which game which team brings to the ground.

This years Dees V Crows at the G will be a much different style of game.

I expect to see more running and cleaner use of the football for both teams.

Last year was awful, I happily volunteered to queue up for beers/coffees that week knowing that I would not be missing much.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
