O'brian is not only a star but one of the fairest players in the AFL.Onr of the most brilliant running back I have seen.

Pity there is a rump in the Mapie members who have a very racist attitude to him (just ask Barrie Cassidy). They apparently are unbelievably feral every time he gets the ball...

Round 1 he looked brilliant, not as good last week but he is definately one to watch and enjoy playing footy for the next few seasons.

Here is a quote by Harry O'Brien from last year's Age:

"YOU are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men."

These are my favourite bible verses from the book of Matthew 5:14-16. These words hold great meaning to me and my desire is to live my life in this way. I am a person who loves to find inspiration through many sources. I am easily inspired by the beauty of life and the infinite possibilities it has to offer. Whether it is art, song lyrics, architecture or even the sight of a mother caring for her child inspires me and sends shivers down my spine.

A major inspiration in my life is my family. During the mid-season break I was fortunate enough to spend a couple of days in Perth with my family. My family is going through the toughest time after losing my father just before the start of the footy season. Despite our immense pain, we know we will get through this. My family's resolve and resilience is holding us together. It is true what they say, "It's not how hard you fall that matters, it's how you get up."

Harry's definitely a shining light, not just in the Collingwood footy club but amongst footballers in general.

His website is well worth a read. Don't the link handy but easily googleable (coming to a dictionary near you). Just called Harrysworld or similar from memory.

The guy is a deep thinker as well as a talented footballer.

Still don't much care for this shepherding of the man on the mark business when his teamate has to stand 5m away. Feels against the spirit of the game to me.

I was just reading this quote from Harry O'Brien. I think this sums up Jim for me. Jim is the light that has shone for the MFC without him you would obviously wonder where we would be.

I've always liked him, as a bloke and a player. But he's a player I hate to love because he's a Magpie.

I have not had the pleasure but my wife met him only a few weeks ago. She said he is 1 of the nicest and coolest blokes she`s ever met. Footy is only his vehicle to bigger things in life. I think we`ll find Harry will be quite an inspirational man long after his footy career finishes with his vision and desire to care for people in need. Good onya fella, shame you wear black n white!

I've met him too and endorse all of this, an absolutely top bloke. Top family too. Does a lot for the African community in Melbourne too, usually behind the scenes, never to blow his own trumpet. It's a great story about him going back to DRC (Congo) to find out about his father's family. Makes me sick to think a guy like him is copping racist carp from anyone, but if there's even the slightest chance that he's getting it from supporters of the team he plays for ... words fail me.

last year Barrie Cassidy from ABC's Outsiders program 10.30 Sunday mornings (incidently the best sports show on television), and a famous Magpie fanatic, said that he hears regularly racial abuse from members when O'Brien gets the ball. He said when he and others challenge them about it, they apparently say "I've paid my membership and I'm allowed to do and say what I like". Just appalling but not new for that lot - remember ricky widmar and michael long? The AFL stamped it out on the field, maybe they need to look to the members' stands?

Stop making it hard for me to hate him!! If he has nothing to do with the MFC I need not the details, he is nothing more than the enemy in black and white.

Who the hell is Ricky Widmar?! Hahaha any relation to Ricky Wong?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
