Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He wouldn't be on GCs radar and by the time he might be they will have their full quota of forwards.

GC can have anyone (willing) they want. No disrespect to Petterd but he would be well down that list. The fact that he comes from Gold Coast (if that's even correct)is a seperate issue all together. GC have to recruit best available and the players town of birth has absolutely nothing to do with that at all!

Petterd is not the Melbourne player they want - Miller is, also a Queenslander. That is why he is on a one year contract. We are obliged to give them one senior player next year and Miller will be it.

It is also interesting to contemplate how that will affect selection policy re Miller for the rest of the season. If we don't play him at all they m may not consider him valuable enough to poach, and therefore they may go after Petterd. On the other hand, will he (Miller)get in our best 22 as we surge towards the finals?

You're joking re Miller right? My tip is you will never see him on an AFL field ever again- injuries permiting.

Miller... hahah cheers for the giggle!:)

We are not obliged to give them anything. They are restricted to taking no more than one uncontracted player from each club; and are not forced to take anybody.

Incorrect. We are not "obliged" to part with one senior player at all.

GC is eligible to sign a maximum of one player from each of the 16 clubs. This is not the same as being obliged. Yes, it is semantics, but important semantics which changes the equation enormously.

Furthermore, GC has been on record saying they were not looking at exploiting this eligibility to its fullest.

EDIT: Beaten to it. Consider the above thorough agreement.

How do you do pictures? Have some awesome look a likes floating around in my head. Newton and Timmy from Southpark for starters..

When you post, click the 'insert image' ibutton (I know that doesn't help: it's the square-ish one two to the right from the smiley button, one to the left of the envelope button).

Then copy/paste the URL of the picture you want to insert.

Miller? You mean Brad Miller yeah? Not some Miller that is AFL level that I haven't heard of? Hell, they can have him for free. If the GC decide that Miller will give them more than Ricky then they wont be a finals team as long as I have a hole in my arse.

FACT: Dees are under the cap, and are front loading salaries making it easy for the club to keep kids.

FACT: Ricky may be a target, but the GC's primary targets will be the big money makers. By the time the deals spill through to the lower profile targets you might find the money is very similar to what we can offer Ricky.

FACT: He is a required player regardless of his form here and there. He will be offered his worth in $$$ at the MFC.

If the GC want to overpay for him, then they will need to compensate the club. If he wants to leave and we get a pick in return, then that is fine by me. WE want players that want to play for the club.

My bet is that Ricky gets a 3 year deal with the MFC and becomes a very good player for the MFC.

His only key weakness at the moment is his kicking to team-mates. I find this strange given the sales pitch we were given upon his drafting. We were told that he played a quarter back style role where he set up play with his accurate field kicking. Nevertheless, his one on one skills are great whether it be in the air or on the ground. He provides good 'frontal pressure' and is a reliable set shot at goal.

I'm not sure queries over his kicking aren't limited to field-kicking. I'm actually really surprised to see you write that he's a reliable set shot at goal - I think that's one of the major question marks over his game at the moment.

There's plenty to like, in particular his ability to find the footy when playing forward. However, as our forward line develops I think it's likely he'll be less of a target, and converting his chances will be crucial.

31.14 over his career, pretty reliable to me.

Really?

Have to say that surprised me. But it doesn't include shots that don't even score, like the ones that don't make the distance. There have been a few of those.

Of course, some of the helicopter kicks from Petterd end up being goals, so that doesn't show up either.

Obviously it doesn't include shots that don't score, but 69% shooting accuracy is nothing to laugh at.

Better than Brad Green's 64%, considering nobody here would ever accuse Brad of being anything less than an elite kick at goal.

Usually people see a player have a couple of bad kicks or a bad game and then just decide they're a bad kick and block out anything different from then on or dismiss future accuracy as lucky shots from bad kicks.

There's an article in the Sunday Mail up here in Brisvegas this morning talking up the prospects of Ricky moving to the Gold Coast. I'm not sure if it's made the press in Victoria but the article confirms that Ricky has officially put off contract talks until the end of the year. He talks of how great it would be to play in front of friends and family but also talks about how much he loves playing for the MFC at the G every week. Looks like some serious money will be thrown his way but I think we're keen to keep him and will have the money to match a GC offer if need be. Watch this space.

On Gameday, channel 7 right now the headline loop states`` Ricky P delays contract reports with Demons``. Id say his manager realises his value has risen markedly in recent times. Hopefully just a hard ball tactic and lets hope he is not considering a move home to QLD

Pettard's manager is doing the right thing for Ricky, if he can squeeze an extra 40 to 50 grand a year then he bloody well should.

Its an interesting situation isn`t it. Ricky may be about to have a break out year and if he continues to perform and improve thru the year then he could be worth an extra $100-$200k per year. No doubt he`ll want a 3 year deal too. The manager will play on the go home factor big time, even if Ricky is 100% committed to stay at the Dees. It will ensure the Dees throw that little bit extra at him in order to keep him away from ``going home``.

It`s a smart move by Rick and manager but it will ensure we have a nervous wait for his decision

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
