Bailey as Development Coach?

burn in hell

Recommended Posts

There is alot of talk about Bailey's performance as senior coach, however, we may agree that he is a good development coach. MAKE HIM DEVELOPMENT COACH and let him work with the young players that he has already invested 2 years of time. By having him as development coach, we can kinda honor his 2 year contract, and our money does not entirely go to waste.

Another extreme.

One extreme says Bailey can't coach and is no good, even though he's really only had one full year with the young players.

The other extreme is that Bailey is a brilliant development coach, even though no young player has really gone out and beyond in his time at the club.

Also, can a mod change the thread title to "Bailey as Development Coach?" or something similar.

The important thing is that nobody has overreacted and hit the panic button after one game.

Nice call.

Re: the OP,

Bailey would happily be demoted to Development Coach??

Did you even think things through, or just hurriedly post cos you wanted to get it out there before the idea leaked out of your brain..?

If Bailey were to be replaced at the end of his contract then the most logical option is to get an established premiership coach someone like a Malthouse or a Mark Williams.

Could we afford the coin ($$$$) to get an "established premiership coach" - irrespective of the names people want to throw forward.

It is evident that the performances of 2010 are lacking intensity. Bailey is responsible for that. Remember, he intentially lost games for us last year so he could get his draft picks for the club. Lets give him the opportunity of developing them.

We have signed him for 2 years, right?

He is not going to get a senior AFL position anywhere else.

Bailey is not responsible for the intensity of the players, the players are, I do not expect our Rd 11 team to look anything like the Rd 1 team, we have had one poor game, I am willing to wait until at least Rd 11......also how could we get rid of Wellman and Williams, Wellman is developing really good defenders and Williams along with West has taken a guy off the Rookie List and turned him into a player who only played 60odd % of the game but was one of our better players.

Bailey is the coach, the whole club is behind him, he is not going anywhere, get over it

The best AFL coaches inspire intensity in their players. Yes, it has got to come from within the individual player, but the coach

plays an essential role in lighting this spark.

It was interesting to listen to 4-time premiership player Martin Pike on SEN the other night discuss exactly this topic.

He said that the teams in which he achieved ultimate success (North Melbourne and Brisbane) both revered and feared

their coaches. He said if Leigh Matthews or Denis Pagan set you a task, you carried it out. No questions asked.

Does Dean Bailey inspire such passion and commitment? That's the key question.

Exactly.

Remember years ago when Schimmelbush coached North. They got flogged in the practice matches, then played Rd1 in Adelaide where were insipid, Got smashed by about 130pts. The players were not inspired by the coach. Coach was sacked, I believe Pagan might have taken over at that time and they won 2 premierships in the next decade.

Obviously having a club legend as their coach didn't really work.. Come on down Todd :)

To carry out a task anybody can do it is how well you do that task, you can take Pike's statement a few ways.

The problem I think with us and this is not demeaning the players, is we haven't really got a player who is a superstar and can take the game by the scruff of the neck and inspire the other players, one head goes down and the rest follow, as I have said previously the team by Rd 11 will bear no resemblance to the team than played in Rd 1

I would assume that the rest of the 'senior' players, in fact all the players have been put on notice, no matter what your name is you will spend time at Casey if you do not produce.....

Well the first year was the clean out year and last year he would have been crucified for winning games by the groupthinkers on this site. So we put up a bad showing in one game this year and he should be sacked? Who in their right minds expected us to be more than 1 win in the first lot of games anyway?

If we were to get a coach to replace Bailey, which I am not advocating, do you think he would really want to stick around and be a Developmemt/Assistant coach?

I don't think you know anything about football or football clubs or developing young AFL players.

A developement Coach is a Head Coach who is put in charge to teach & develope the players into a team.

The definition of a finishing coach is one who can then instill the intensity into that team to go through to premierships.

Alistair Clarkson has proven to be able to do both. As have most Premiership Coaches at some stage.

Bailey needs time to develope his young list of talent. This is not yet if you hadn't noticed, a Grand Final list.

Wish i had Heard that. I like Martin Pike. When he talks Footy i listen, he has been through it all. From Fitzroy to 4 Premierships.

Maybe the cub should get him down to talk to our young guys...not many have 4 premierships in the modern era.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
