Demons Ordinary Skill Level

Lets just remember that we demonlanders and ology people plus a few thousand Demon supporters are the only people really watching the Club over the last 3 years.

To everyone else in the Footy world we are a joke and a waste of space.

I have heard it repeatedly. Opposition supporters are waiting for us to go Belly Up.

We are not rated at all.

And why should we be. Do any of us Rate the Tigers? i would suggest not.

He may be an idiot on TV but Crawf did win a charlie and got to play in a premiership team.

This Club is heading in the right direction but still has not put the scores on the board.

It all starts this year...show the article to the players..let them prove crawf wrong, not just in round 1 either.

We're going to beat some good sides this year, and Crawford's opinions are driven mainly by what he thinks will sell papers, and not by any kind of 'truth' or good judgement.

I bet you, if you asked him to name 18 current Melbourne players, he couldn't do it..

I bet you that you are right.

I couldn't name 18 players out of any other side either, not interested. Prefer to point my energy at the MFC.

From the outside this club is a basket case, but we the real supporters no better.

But until the results start to become public, we shall be kicked by all and or ridiculed.

But after watching the speeches from last weeks AGM we know that the MFC is going to be ok

but the job is far from done & at the same time is never finished.

If I was being paid to write and article based purely on guesswork, I would have written the same garbage.

The truth is of ALL AFL lists, the demons have the most room for improvement, and are the most likely to turn it around with a boom of young talented kids getting better each week. Freo and the tigers are in a far worse position than we are.

Port are in for some dark years, the Weagles don't thrill me and I think some of the more overrated sides (Carlton, Sydney,Collingwood, Essendon)are prone to some soft defeats coming up in 2010.

The Dees bashing ends in 2010, i am sick to my stomach about reading articles such as these about how crap we are. 8-9 wins this year will start to have people worried again about playing the mighty dees.

come on mate, steady on with the inferiority complex

a lot of people are also of the opinion that we have a group of 8-10 players who might become elite, supported by a pretty solid bunch of co-stars and the odds are in our favour of being a gun side in a few years

One word to sum up crawf's journalistic views.......[censored].

I wouldn't even bother to sum it up.

The truth is that both the HS and the numbskull in question know that it doesn't matter what he writes, as long as there's enough of it to fill up the designated space; it doesn't even matter that he writes it. So long as his name is over the tripe the paper is happy and he gets what he thinks he's entitled to as a former well-known player and minor celebrity-buffoon. The HS editor doesn't care what is in the article - if it has no veracity or credibility, that will stir the bewildered masses, mostly those who are rabid club supporters, into evincing their outrage (long before they've got to the latest tidbit about Haiti, about 47 pages from the back page - the true front page for most HS readers); sport and outrage are the Hun's meat and potatoes.

let's just all wait until Saturday when we get to see the whole list live in a match situation

Exactly. I'd prefer someone give their analysis on the skill levels of clubs - after witnessing an intra-club match - rather than observing a 5-10 minute handball drill at the start of January (for example).

Agree HT- but after season 2010 we will surely know where our football club stands.

yes i agree, but it is all opinion & the odds are in our favor talk AT THIS STAGE. This club has not proved anything yet.

I may be older than you & therefore been trodden on by Demon expectations before.

I remember being told "Diamond" Jim Tilbrook was the greatest footballer to walk the Earth.....He wasn't.

Crawf's article from an outsiders POV was reasnoable is all i am saying.

If you wrote the same article on Richmond 2010 what would you write??

While goal kicking is only one element of a teams skill level, I found the following table quite interesting:

In 2009

Accuracy (%) .Team

84.0 ..............Adelaide

81.3 ..............Bris Lions

80.0 ..............Nth Melb

80.0 ..............Sydney

78.1 ..............W Bulldogs

77.8 ..............Port Adel

76.5 ..............Melbourne

75.0 ..............Carlton

75.0 ..............Essendon

73.7 ..............Richmond

73.3 ..............Fremantle

73.3 ..............West Coast

72.4 ..............Geelong

71.4 ..............St Kilda

69.6 ..............Hawthorn

66.7 ..............Collingwood

Hmmm...can't be long until we hear a new variation on a standard Collingwood comment " The Goal Umpires are crucifying us!"

Looking at it differently, Collingwood seem to generate alot of shots at goal. If they were more accurate, then they would be a more dangerous side. In round 11 we took a flogging, I can remember think how lucky it was they missed a few shots.

That actually doesn't surprise me at all. We had some pretty impressively accurate games last season... to go with some unbelievably woeful ones. I'd imagined we'd end up about in the middle.

Having just seen the Weagles vs bombers, I think our skills are starting to look pretty good.

I was thinking the same thing.

Both those sides had heaps of young kids just like the MFC.

Bloody Hell Nik Nat looked amazing though. Kept imagining him in a demon jumper!!

He would be nice in the Ruck this year....

It's a bit much to expect clubs to produce exquisite skills in mid February. I don't believe that comparisons are very helpful at this stage. I would prefer we concentrate on ourselves and improving our own skills and getting our team right for the first game of the season.

Which is exactly what the NAB Cup is used for!!!!

Did you actually watch him in the ruck? Mediocre. He's still a long way off.

So you would prefer the Rucks we have now would you, sorry but i am still filthy that Jolly was cleared when Jeff White was already on the Slide.

As they stand right now I'd take our rucks over NikNat. In a few years he'll probably be at the level where that will change.

Jolly wasn't cleared. He left. There is a chance they could have kept him by offering more gametime, maybe 50-50 with White, but maybe not.

Sure jolly left because White was a big ND favorite, but the club should never have allowed it too happen.

After the centre line went in at the centre bounce sadly Jeff's game was stripped of a lot of its effectiveness.

It's too late too grumble i know, but our current Ruck stocks compared to where jplly is now, does make me a little mad.

For the Record i would take Nik Nat over our current Ruckmen, without a doubt...That's not to say i do not want our boys to succeed, but Nik Nat is a freak in the Liam Jurrah category.

Just imagine those two playing together..

In a few years it would be a sight to behold. I don't in any way claim that NikNat won't be great. My objection is to people saying he already is. I saw an oversized kid with great enthusiasm and little skill. When he becomes a huge man with good skills to go with his athleticism I'll joint the chorus. Until then I'll take someone who can play the game over his raw talent.

I'm really looking forward to seeing if Jamar can monster him again like he did last year. Same with folks like Jolly and Hille. I think when he faces real rucks it will be a very different story.

2010 is the year Mark Jamar can make or break his career. It is entirely up to him barring injury. i am glad he was only given a short contract-sends the right message.

In 2004, White was the AA ruckman and when fit had been a key element with Scott Thompson in propelling MFC to ladder top 2/3rd trhough that season. Both got injuries and MFC sunk like a stone. White had done all that on his own with no backup as Jolly got injured earlier in the year. When he returned, Jolly cracked the sads about lack of opportunity and when he did have a chance to play played poorly, so poorly in fact that MFC dropped him and took a very green Jamar into the EF. At season's end Jolly wanted OUT. He wanted to be a No1 ruckman and has taken him three years to get there. When he left MFC he was much inferior ruckman to what he is now. He has been good for the past three years. We all know the centre line rule came in prior to 2005 and the role of the ruckman changed greatly

Feel free to grumble but make sure you have the facts.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
