Robbo

one of my fav's of all time, and the game just got in front of him a bit and he couldnt peg it back. Achillies injuries are for life, not just for xmas, and he did well coming back, but in the end, his time was up.

Strong talk of him playing up at Shepparton swans with ooze, would be worth watching!

spot on nasher, and even worse is that im embarrassed to be embarrassed by him. considering where he sits on our all time goals/games lists etc and the long service he has given the club, it is sad that right up til the end he couldnt get that 5% out of himself that would have made the difference. if only he had of found a way to play a bit more for the team in the past couple of years he would've got to go round again imo.

its a pity because i think back to those years where he held down CHF as an undersized player kicking lots of goals. If we had another KP forward and he was left to roam the flanks and do the spectacular he may have been even more decorated/dangerous.

Against the Hawks and I wouldn't think one stupid act, out of many, would sign his career away.

Not that I'm defending it, but I can't see how that wasn't 50. He never crossed his mark and the guy ran over the mark to take it out of his hands/off his boot.

i agree, just posing the question, but it was poor timing, and left a sour taste in teh mouth of many supporters.

His future was marked well before then.

Nasher summed it up.

The fact that other Clubs seeing themselves in a flag window did not pick it up.

It was a great career and he should be proud of it but its over.

Lets all move on.

Im going to miss him, yelling robbo when ever he goes up for a mark.

Hope this thread doesnt turn into a whole lot of robbo bashing.

Try yelling JURRAH and Watts.

Agree on the last point.

I'm not embarrassed by him at all.

He's a 30 year old who had the game taken away from him earlier than he'd have liked. He admitted he had a snowballs chance of getting picked up again, but still put his name up. Nothing wrong with that at all. I'd have done the same.

As for his comments in the media, I don't agree, but I do understand where he's coming from, and I can allow an absolute club champion his opinion with no trouble at all.

I reckon probably 90% of AFL footballers see their careers out with a whimper in much the way he has. It's not shameful at all. Not all of them can be like Rob Harvey and play til they're in their late 30s.

For us to be a flag chance I don't think he'd get a game.

Weak defensive efforts wouldn't be tolerated.

what about the 450goals he kicked, show some respect, how many goals did you kick, hed be still on the list if our window was open.

Sort of a catch-22 in my view.

...

I loved him, just wish he'd have understood his time was up and had a little more tact about the club that game him so much.

pretty much it.

some of these lads forget at times they are rewarded handsomely for the opportunity to play their beloved game...when ya times up...its up...go gracefully with head held high and say thankyou....and so will we.

act the goat... and we'll soon become disenchanted

I shall miss Robbo. Coming back from that achillies injury took some Guts, any body who has had to immobilize their body will unsderstand.

A lot of his other leg muscles would have begun to waste away through lack of use, so to come back and even play again was a Top Effort.

That being said the FD made the call his time was up, i am glad he will always be a one club player. I hope in years to come Robbo feels the same way.

He should have made the AA side a few years ago, the Judges of that team should have been lynched that year. 76 goals from a pocket, forward flank against bigger opponents was a mighty effort.

Good luck Robbo, some people in here have got it in for you but not me.

Robbo was one player in the 2000 Grand Final who put in all day and didn't give up. Shall miss those Hangers and last Q goals to seal a game.

May he always be welcomed back to the MFC

Enlightening stuff. And..?

Doesn't change the fact Robbo was good at taking speccies and kicking goals, but not the 1%ers.

Which is why he won precisely zero flags during his time as an AFL player.

He was loyal because he loved the spotlight the club provided him.

A little Harsh this answer i believe BB. Easy to write from a nice comfy chair. Robbo gave us all a lotta joy and some frustrations sure-but he deserves a little better than what you write above, Maybe we should listen to his farewell speech to the players again. I thought it was great.

I would be playing it to the new recruits

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
