Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I am astonished people here don't think Brock can make our midfield, we don't have a midfield he was one of our best over the last three years. Not that it matters, he's gone now, traded in his heart for VISY $$$.

What annoys me (except for Brock himself) is that it happened now, and 11 is all we got, why? We have PSD1 so hold the trump card if he wanted to walk. How does this help our situation? IMHO we didn't play hard ball enough, carlton got the far better deal.

We better get lucky with pick 11, just maybe we can snag a lenny hayes or a brad Johnson and not any of the other 15 shizen players to be picked up at 11 in stronger drafts over the last 20 years.

This is Woewoeden for Bell all over again except this time we traded at age 23!!!

What's funny is that many Carlton supporters on fan forums are [censored] off for giving up pick 11 and Dees supporters are [censored] off for only getting pick 11.

We'll have to judge this in 5 years time.

Not that it'll stop anyone. But I think you're right.

The lack of transperancy is what hurts.

I hope one of the journos have the underlying reason for this request of a trade.

Because its come out of bloody no where.

....

Time to take a breath.

McLean was on about $400k (inflated IMO) according to a paper (Age?), and was offered a new contract with a (big?) pay cut. My guess here is that it was heavy on incentives. And remeber, this at a time when we are front-ending contracts just to get up to the SC. In other words, a slap in the chops?

Anyway, we have and will have, more mid-fielders than a shark has teeth. I reckon his manager (uncle ricky?) put out feelers, and got a big bite.

From AFL.COM.AU, "McLean met with Melbourne officials on Monday and informed them of his request to be traded from the club." The deal was done today, so he already knew who wanted him before wanting out of MFC.

So the choice was his. I'm betting a tough decision for him.

Time will tell, but he MIGHT be a good get for carlton. He's supposed to be a replacement for Richard hadley who is heading back to the lions; he'll want to play more games (6 or 7) than Hadley did this year.

My big problem is with our SC. If we stay with drafts, we'll be flat out making 82% of our SC, let alone 92%.

Maybe we can go to the AFL and ask for a special dispensation to pay, say, 85%.

Picks 11 & 18 for Bourgoyne anyone?

*Imagine Indiana Jones leaping across the giant gorge at the end of Indiana Jones and the last Crusade*

... Ok. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. In 2007 when we traded Tigger, we obviously knew what we were getting with Jack Grimes. No-one would begrudge that trade right now.

Surely... Surely... We know precisely what we are going to do with this pick, and he's going to be a 200 game superstar, etc et. and no-one will regret this decision.

Strategically, it makes sense... at the moment. There isn't room for McLean, Jones, Moloney in the 1 midfield. We need a key forward and a ruckman, so we are positioning ourselves well.

Carlton doesn't need midfielders; they need a sober forward. Stupid decision on their behalf. Hawthorn doesn't need a silky midfielder... they need key position backs.

At least we are moving on a player type we have an abundance of, and hopefully bringing in something special to replace.

Clause a) Please PLEASE don't be a repeat of Daniel Bell

(Indiana Jones reference is akin to the faith I'm putting in our football department...)

And... Brock... I actually love you and wish you all the best. But for F&^# sakes... CARLTON. Ah it hurts too much.

Well i hope we use this pick sensibly. Scully and Trengrove 1&2, A tall KPP (maybe tallia or Carlisle) with pick 11, and maybe trade 18 and a player for lovett or burgoyne if posible.

Would be devastated if the Davey rumor is true though.

Im sad to see Mclean go, but we are being compensated for with pick 11. With Beamer and Nafth Jones we've got 2 quality inside mids and Brock is a bit slow off the mark and is an average kick lets be honest.

Although im bugging out about that fact that one of the Alpha males of our group has walked despite the previous committments to the cause he's made (debt demolition, speaking passionately about the club etc.) and the way the club have been trying to push him up in the media as one of the faces of our club.

The rumour about the boys being flat at DB with the way CJ left has got to be rubbish

Im having a genuine panack attack about Davey (for entourage fans picture Johnny Drama when he was bugging out in his 5 towns trailor after smoking too much), surely he's not going anywhere, the more i think about it the more its crap. Although why havent the club signed him yet and lets face it who would have thought Mclean was going, stranger things have happened.

It would be absolutely disasterous if there was a fraction between the players and DB, disasterous, we would look like a complete basketcase

The lack of transperancy is what hurts.

Pardon?

The alternative is to have the rumours drag on and on for however many weeks until the official trade week like every other trade does. How much more transparent could this possibly be? Especially given that he told the MFC he wanted to be traded on Monday.

According to the reports he only told the board about this on Monday. In the space of 2 days they've found a fair trade for him and put out a press release about it. What about this is opaque? If you want a printed transcript of his discussion with whoever at the club he spoke to you're going to be disappointed. No club would give more information than the MFC have given us on this.

My old man is a blue supporter and is wrapped!

This is a win/win trade but the only thing that puzzles and worries me is why he has requested this.

Picks 11 & 18 for Bourgoyne anyone?

Interesting. Would people have traded 18 and Brock to Port?

This is how i see it. I was happy to pay Shaun 600K. With Brock's 400K freed up, We can blow the competition out with huge wage.

Then Pick 11 + a mill for first year in wages (decreases after that).

I can't believe how many irrational posts are on this thread!

He wanted to leave and that came straight from the horses mouth, why would we try to retain a player that has asked to leave? Pick 11 for a player who has never really reached his potential, is almost always injured, is slow, gets run down from behind continuously and turns the ball over. I honestly think the club has done pretty well to get pick 11. After writing this I'm hoping Carlton don't decide to renege on the deal.

The club is doing its best to rebuild in a similar fashion to Hawthorn a few years ago. If we gain a player in this deal like Grimes from the TJ trade a couple of years ago no one will be complaining.

I'm assuming that by lack of transparency he means what happened between the debt demolition dinner in August where Brock donated a significant amount of money to the club, and this Monday, which made Brock decide to leave?

Something pretty extraordinary must have happened in that short amount of time.

Wasn't McLean's donation last year, 2008?

i can see why they did it, Nick Stevens is due to retire with neck problems. Strangely enough theres nothing about brock going there on talking carlton, interested to see their view as well

I think you have to become a member to view their drafts and trades forum. I know this because i work with a Carlton supporter who i told the Brock rumour to this morning. He was filthy at the prospect at trading pick 11 for him, feels they have other pressing needs.

I hate this and am seriously worried with how the club is looking for the next 3 or 4 years! I know this is just my shock wearing in, but if Davey leaves that will be the worst thing that could happen to the supporter base..... We won't have members, no supporters, no money & no club.. I know this is fear mongering but I hope something is going on to sort out all the crap behind the scenes!!

We can have all the draft picks in the world, but a team of 18 year olds cant win a flag

[unfounded speculation]

I wonder if this has anything to do with his captaincy aspirations? He has said repeatedly that he'd like to play his whole career at Melbourne and captain the club. Perhaps he was told that he was not in the running for the top job?

So he leaves to Carlton, a club he'll never captain unless Judd decides to quit football to pursue his love of environmental causes

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
