I thought I would have another look at some of the You Tubes of these guys and the Martin one was just sensational, he is a serious player. Another one was Tapscott I have seen his before but he shows a lot more than Vardy and I would take him at 11 without a worry but I doubt he will still be there. Wouldn't take Butcher on what he's shown so far injuries or not.

with picks 11 and 18, i'd be happy with two of butcher black jetta and vardy.

think one of them definately has to be wither butcher or black and i think there is a real chance of this happening so i reckon i'll be happy

Bailey said that about 6 months ago.. a lot has changed.. it is pretty clear we will be picked scully and trengove 1 and 2.

richmond wont pick him as they have already stated they are keen on martin, north might.. but i doubt they will take a risk and will probably go with cunnington or rohan.. sydney has already said they are very keen on rohan, and port have also expressed interest in the local boys (tapscott & panos) with their 2 picks.. essendon have also stated they want a midfielder as they believe they have their kpp covered..

probably wont happen.. but i wouldnt be so quick to rule our dees getting butcher at 11

Maybe because Morabito is full of X-factor and full of speed. the modern day goal-kicking midfielder. 190cm that breaks tackles also. I prefer morabito. Morabito doesnt have good footskills compared to trengove but he beats him at pace and x-factor

That's because it was a throw-away line and it is meaningless, and even they are not stupid enough to run with it like you have.

Yes, we will take at least one midfielder with our first 2 picks. Bailey would be stupid to rule out taking a tall forward; there's every chance BP could make that recommendation.

On the AFL website Trengove has been classified as a medium forward anyway.

Well if people think that we are only taking 1 mid with our 1st 2 picks i think that may mean that we pass on Scully then.Trengove will go num 1 in my opinion.Theink we have to take Trengove & Scully at 1,2 then go for a KPP at 11.Hopefully either Butcher or Panos are still around.For a late pick in our 3rd or 4th round id love us to take a CHB/FB by the name of Alex Stopp from Norwood,realy rate the guy

Only Freak does and we all know what Freak's like. If you read and watch the reports at draft camp then the top 6 are virtually locked in. Scully and Trengove (Melb), Martin (Rich), Morabito (Freo), Cunnington (NM), Rohan (Syd). West Coast will more than likely go for a local mid(Jetta\Lucas) Port are the only team that may grab Butcher with either pick 8 or 9 Essendon will go for another mid.

I'm not saying this won't happen but just want to expand the conversation a little. All of the KPP have knocks on them. If Butcher is gone before 11 our Footy Dept may not rate the next batch of KPP's as first round quality. In other words, if Black has issues with consistency and Griffiths is injury prone and Carlisle too speculative and Panos too one-dimensional and Talia not considered dangerous enough forward why wouldn't we do what we always suggest we should with top 20 picks and simply take "best available"? If Butcher is gone, in all likelihood one of Koby Stevens, Gary Rohan and Luke Tapscott will be available at 11. Who would you take? I'm all for taking the next best midfielder and investing pick 18 on the more speculative KPP. We obviously have a serious need. Watts will need a big body next to him but we can't reinvent the draft to suit us. All of the experts are telling us that this is a shallow draft and particularly weak in terms of KPP's. I don't want to lose Brock McLean and spend pick 11 on an overly speculative player. I'd rather add Stevens, Rohan or Tapscott and take one of Griffiths, Black, Carlisle or Panos at 18. Thoughts?

If Lewis Jetts or Luke Tapscott slip to 11 we must take them and use 18 on a KPP. West Coast is likely to take Jetta at 7 and Tapscott to Port at 8 or 9. So unlikely I would think! Take the best available. If Panos, Butcher or Lucus are still there than fantastic. Either way, Pick 11 is still going to get a potentially good player if not great! Hopefully we can take a Black or Temel at 18.

I agree best available at those selection but the thing is, I think Stevens, Rohan and Tapscott are just as speculative as any of the KPPs being discussed. All 3 could easily slide well beyond their expected spot of mid-first-round.

Once we get to that stage they all level out and there's not much difference between that tier of players, big or small.

You know what they say in recruiting: if you're gonna make a mistake, make it a big one.

Every time I look at our list, besides needing stars, i think it is due for a an injection of skilled talls.

I don't like choosing based on position, but looking forward EVERY team is going to have trouble getting quality bigs the next few seasons, so taking the best ones available now (within reason) just seems the smart option.

First of all, I cannot see Rohan falling to pick 11. I have faith in the footy department taking the best available player(s). We get that with our first two picks. It's an interesting point you make about "best available."

If Emma Quayle is to be believed, and she usually is, then apparently recruiters are saying the quality players only go as far as 4... some say 6, 8 or 10. Which pick do we have? 11... This groupthink could have contributed to Carlton going down the trade for Brock path.

With this in mind, you can see why peoples' pick 11 in their mock drafts is the one that varies probably the most (along with picks 9 and 10).

If it all goes as predicted, and the first five are Scully, Trengove, Martin, Morabito and Cunnington... then that means Rohan, Tapscott and Lucas are likely to be 6, 7 and 8. Beyond that it's anyone's guess, and if the career recruiters are to be believed you could "throw a blanket" over the next 30.

With that in mind, it kind of makes sense to go for type a bit more. There are 4 or so good tall prospects, a couple of ruckmen, and one or two highly rated but injured flanker/mids.

I'm all for best available in the first round always. But 2009 is not 2008, and if the best available could be any one of 30 names, then I hope it's one with 193-197cm after their name. :D
