Following his retirement Essendon coach Matthew Knights anointed Scott Lucas as not only a great of the Essendon Football Club. Personally I hate Essendon and found Lucas to be possibly the most overrated and annoying players ever to don a jumper.

I hate Essendon!

I would have loved Scott lucas on our forward line. I Hate Essendon Loads, But i always felt Lucas was not given his true Respect.

He Played the game fair unlike some of his team mates.

Or your ignorance. B)

Lucas has been a good player over the course of his career with a Premiership, 270 games and 471 goals over 15 years. 2nd highest number of games for Essendon after Fletcher. He has had a great career record.

Heavens above many on here want to canonise Robbo!

I dont mind the accolades credited to a retiring player of that stature. I take them with a grain of salt.

Got any serious issues?

He has a premiership medal. They are arrogant because they are used to success. We could use some of that.

He's somewhere in the

Robertson -- Lyon -- Neitz

spectrum range.

you trying to go fishing,

In the Robertson range maybe. Neitz and Lyon were both far better footballers.

Lucas, one of the most overrated players I've ever seen. A champion of their club, fine, but he's a long way of an AFL champion IMO.

Id rather robbo than lucas.

Neita and Gaza way ahead of them two.

This is a joke right? One of the most under rated players in the last decade. Has lived his entire career in Lloyds shadow and if he had played at Melbourne with the same record we would be praising him above all our recent players except Lyon and Neitz.

Lucas would be one of my favourite non-Melbourne players over the last decade. Always gave his all and is a genuinely good bloke. A quiet achiever.

Anybody who plays 270 games over a 14 year career at a successful club like Essendon, must be doing something right.

Yeah ok, he's probably not one of the alltime greats. But like Rhino said, you have to take it with a grain of salt.

He's been a great servant of the Bombers over his career. Would have loved him in a Melbourne jumper. Good luck to him in whatever he chooses to do next with his life.

What a Ridiculous Statement. Scotty Lucas performed very well in front of big crowds (Huge) during the season & in September.

Remember that game in Perth maybe 2 years ago-kicked 8 in a last Quarter as i remember.

Scott Lucas was a class act alright.

So who are the all time greats?

Lockett

Dunstall

Carey

Ablett

Lucas

Somehow I dont think so sorry.

I rank them Robbo-Lucas-Lyon-Neitz-Lloyd but there's little difference between Lucas and Lyon, Lucas played 50 more games but Lyon offered great leadership. People are naturally biased towards their own players.

Would you say LLoyd is an all time great?

Lucas is and was a great player, personally even though robbo and lucas were second forwards to two greats i think there totally different players.

What an awful thread. Mods should delete it.

Lucas was a great player for Essendon, and one of the best in the AFL in his prime. He has a premiership medalion, which is more than anyone on our list has. He was AA as a CHB, and probably should have been AA as a CHF in 2006 or 2007. He continually performed in big games and was a key part of the Dons success. I would have loved for him to have played for Melbourne. If he had we would have probably won a flag in our 2004-2006 finals stint.

Why would you start a thread disrespecting someone who has had a great career? Poor form!

Not even sure why you bothererd posting at all

I am sure there are many that will disagree with you

Lucas has given great service to his club over many years

A Premiership

AA

Dual best and fairest in a side that had Fletcher , Lloyd and Hird isnt too shabby

Not in the class of Hird but at Bomberland nobody has been since the 50,s (Reynolds , Hutchinson and Coleman)

Bomber Fans will have fond memories of the Lloyd and Lucas combination for years to come

I actually like Lucas. Maybe not one of the greats of the game, but a great at Essendon.

Well done to him on a great career and a flag.

There are two things to this clip:

First, he couldn't make the distance from 35 out on his right;

Second, thank god he didn't!

Agree, gave excellent service to Essendon. One of their all time greats.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
