Well, obviously not.

But imagine the incredible kerfuffle that will come about if (when) Hawthorn make the final 8 by percentage over the Bombers or Port after having been gifted this win (due to happen later today)?

The AFL might dodge a bullet here, but I don't think its likely.

This reminds me a little bit of the EPL situation with Westham and .. i think Sheffield United (can't exactly remember?) being relegated.. about 2 years ago

Slightly different because it also invovled Tevez, but point is its a team that is directly suffering due to another team winning a game it should not have save for an unfair advantage

Agree. I'm despondent that Hawthorn is likely to make finals now because they'll steal a win here and make it on percentage over Port. I hate Hawthorn.

You'd certainly feel aggrieved and disappointed if you're an Essendon or Port fan.

St Kilda is doing the right thing though. No point playing anyone if they're under an injury cloud.

In any effect, it will firmly turn the spotlight again onto the subject of 'List Management'.

Personally I don't see what options the AFL have in this matter.

Its a very delicate situation calling for very delicate words.

They have no control over how clubs manage their list, but can they admit that?

Can they admit that without saying they have no control except they will not tolerate collusion to throw matches?

Does this then make tanking an even touchier subject?

Does this put MFC right in the sh!t?

Its just a messy situation, and I can't see how betting will continue on AFL matches when there are such inconsistent results and it is so open to tampering.

Similar, Manchester United fielded an understrength team in the final round where West Ham needed to win to stay in the EPL where as Man U had the title stitched up from memory.

Tevez scored the winning goal and was then loaned to Man U the next season.....

so if youre on top of the ladder...its list management...and if youre on the bottom its tanking... so glad thats cleared up for me now :rolleyes:

i don't know if its tanking when you win

Thanks for that genius.

Obviously it didn't turn out the way a lot of ppl expected. They dodged a bullet.

Just proves how difficult it is to "prove" a case of tanking.

Storm in a teacup and validated so by the result.

Shows How Strong & well coached The Saints are this year, Good Luck to them

The Label of Tanking towards St.K by the betting agencies yesterday was a disgrace

They have a Tough Finals Campaign ahead & should be allowed to field whoever they wish.

The Football Public driven by SEN have become "Tanking" Paranoid. I find it offensive

Andy Maher will get his Just Reward one day.

I hope the Saints go right thru undefeated now. They were superb Today.

This Tanking Debate must cease.

St Kilda was amazing. Have a look at their B&F this year. Wouldn't surprise me if 6 of the 7 they were missing yesterday turned out to be top 10 (Riewoldt, Dal Santo, Hayes, Montagna, Goddard, Fisher).

Hawthorn doesn't deserve finals if it can't beat a second rate St Kilda.

As for West Coast, I believe they were burdened by the lure of the PP. Once they made the decision to win games, they have turned it up a notch, and have shown that they are clearly better than bottom 4. Josh Kennedy and Mark LeCras are stars in the making.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good debate?

I believe that the Saints have had 2 priority picks and with those 2 picks mangaed to get Koschitske and X Clarke.

Even though they took Reiwoldt and Ball with the 2 priority picks, they would have taken those 2 players if there had not been any PPs with their first ordinary DPs.

As for wooden spoons, they have had 1 this century - to enable their first pick for Reiwoldt.

The following year Freo was bottom and the year after that it was Carlton. Since then they have not been near the bottom of the ladder.

How many PP's have Freo, Melbourne, WB Richmond and Carltank had?

Not tanking, but obviously freshening up some of their players prior to the run into September action. Some are injured & some are sore, but it's just smart management of their team.

Yes, they did finish last in 2000, & 15th in 01' & 02'. That's virtually 3 seasons in a row at the bottom.

Riewoldt, Koschitzke & Goddard have all been pivotal in their success, so make of that what you will...

A sense of humour would be in order i think...

I'd take Hawthorn over Essendon. I couldn't think of a nicer bunch of supporters having to suffer...As Jimmy Hird said, they haven't made the finals since '04. Was that the year they knocked us out in the elimination final? Since then, nothing. We've been there twice sionce '04...Essendon=the new Richmond? The jumpers are similar. ;)

St Kilda were completely entitled to rest players, funny they won too.

That's a good thing, IMO. Gambling is going to become an even greater social issue come 2020, with the way the gamble money has snuck into the AFL over the past year. Every club seems to be sponsored by a betting agency. I find it intolerable.

That's a very skewed arguement. They are good now because they had some very juicy picks, one way or another.

However I'm kind of in between on the Saints. They were just that bad around the time they secured their big names. Like us they deserved the picks.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
