Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Scully is amazing. Good Pace, Very good Endurance and reasonably good foot skills without having sublime foot skills. Mclean,Sylvia,Scully in the centre bounce for round 1 of 2010. "Johnson gets first hand to it and taps it down to Mclean, Mclean quick hands to Sylvia who goes for a run, hands off to Scully who is nearing 50, Kicks it to the top of the square, Watts is behind them all, WILL HE FLY!!! you bet ya. Goes back and drills it. Melbourne start there 2010 season in style".

More likely Scully is the one doing the feeding.

He has better hands than anyone I can remember at Melbourne.

Sorry, but it is ot the end of the story. You don't go and pick up a KPF just because of one example in the draft history where it didn't work for one team picking up two midfielders.

You pick the two best players available, and if they happen to be mids, then so be it. We have holes over most of our list, except maybe in defense.

If we picked up a KPF just for the sake of picking up one and he didn't work out, then we just become an example brought up by other teams for future drafts, like people are using the Tigers at present.

Exactly. You can't compare this draft to 2004 because the key position players were much better in the 2004 draft

Cheers for the write up fellas.

A few questions.

No one's mentioned Trengove's pace so what is it like?

And do people think Talia will fall close to our 3rd pick? 195cm and got a massive pump up from Sheehan on SEN. KS said he played back back but is just as good up forward. Really likes the kid.

Trengove's pace is nothing like Scully's. Trengove's pace isn't scintillating, hard to gauge. Put it this way, he'd be quicker than Brock. Someone else might think otherwise?

I don't know where Talia will fall. I'm guessing first round.

Talia. He looks light to me & played a lot in the mid, (I like him) he's got very good footskills & mobility/speed. A 3 year forward prospect, to build his body, IMO.

Trengove's pace is adequate I believe, quicker I think than those we have allready, but maybe slower than Lucas.

went down yesterday aswell from NT V QLD game to VIC V SA game.. but as it has been mentioned dominated by midfielders. Roland ar chee really impressed me! quick hard lil nut bit of a byron pickett like! peace liddell also impressed me sweeping across half back oh and he is very very quick and silky!

The Vic country and WA game was ok to watch..

WA players that impressed me were Kane lucas who got heap of the ball and used it pretty well has neat skills and doesn't fumble.

Morabito really impressed me! built like a brick shitouse can run, can find the footy and uses it well enough to pass. is a running machine aswell. he got a huse spray from kane lucas for trying to snag a goal from the boundry instead of kicking it to the hot spot but he will learn.. he has huge upside and i reckon with good teaching he could be anything! i would be a very very happy man if we snagged him at number 2. we need hard bodied pack bustling guys to guys like blease bennell and strauss who will hit watts and jurrah on the [censored] :)

For Country butcher was a major dispappointment.. i pretty much came just to watch him and he struggled! very light is at least 6 years away from playing good afl footy. needs to work on his goal kicking as he has a weird action aswell. got pushed off too easily and his defensive pressure was hardly noticed.. im offically off the bandwagon for now.

Gary rohan was very impressive! so quick and tiday skills with a good leap as he took a great pack mark on the goal square. reminds me of a young dale thomas with lots of flair! him and blease would be a destructive combo!

VIC METRO v SA was one i couldn't wait to watch as my first time of watching scully in flesh! and boy was i mighty impressed this guy needs to be wearing a melbourne jumper this time next year! and if he aint im taking legal action against the team that does pick him up! his lighting quick handpass and hardness at the ball really stood out.. i kept a close eye on him and he just does NOT stop running! not once did i see him jog or walk he was always moving! he is soo god dam fit! can't wait till he rips up the beep test.

Toy is goin to be a beauty!! [censored] you gold coast!

was hoping to see dylan grimes aswell but didn't get picked by the looks of it. and if we really need a good forward carlisle is our man! nice height and good enough frame to put plenty of bulk on.

For SA tengrove didn't get much of it and i must have missed it when he did get a heap of it coz i had to leave before half time. has good skills covers alot of ground and another that we should look at for pick 2.

like i said i had to leave before half time and i pretty much had my focus on scully in that game hence why i didn't write about other players.. all in all was a good day and why on earth didn't they shut the bloody roof when it started pissing down?!! was freakin freezing yesterday!!

Rohan's standings were not just bolstered by yesterdays game, he has been sensational all carnival.

I do wonder if Melbourne would entertain taking him at pick 2 given he is not a genuine midfielder.

But my god, he is a player.

I want Jack Darling purely because of his surname (Blackadder anyone?)

Imagine yelling out at the game.... 'Good kick Darling!'

Captain Darling?

Last person I called Darling was pregnant 20 seconds later...WOOF.

Just wondering what people thought of Dustin Martins game yesterday, because he hasn't been mentioned much, and i thought he was also a standout in what was the best game.

He doesn't look the quickest player, but he got plenty of the pill, and used it equally as well both left and right. He reminds a little of Dal Santo with his class and poise.

The way they were talking about him yesterday was that he is a late improver, so he may force his way into calculations in the coming months.

I wouldn't have Johnson in their. He is a lazy footballer who needs a rocket sent right up his (you know where)

Indeed. Not sure if you read it in one of my earlier post on the previous page. But Rohan has come along way from full back at Cobden last year. He meets the criteria for pace. He is good on a lead, can play up forward, has good hands - one grab marks above head, can fly - provides pace in the midfield. He's a No.2 candidate IMO. Although Trengove/Morabito are too. Tough one.

Footnote: -

Not that it's a pre-requisite, he's better looking than Cameron Ling...

Pick 2 is going to be very difficult, Trengrove has lovely skills but did not seem to do enough...

Don't forget he'd already had a number of BOG's going into yesterdays game. He still had a solid first half, I don't think you can judge him on a half alone.

Yeah. His first touch yesterday, straight off the opening bounch was absolutely superb. There's no other way of describing it. His hands were lightening and all of a sudden Metro had a clearance. Brock's thought processing is way too slow to be able to do that. He might be receiving it from Scully, then handballing to Trengove, who then kicks it to Watts. ;)

We've already got these hard bodied pack bustling guys in McLean, Moloney and Jones. We don't need anymore.

I'd go with Scully and Morabito. What was evident with Butcher on Wednesday is (like any other KPF) he's going to struggle when the midfield's getting beat.

We have the worst midfield in the comp by a mile; we are slow, reactive, get smashed at clearances and don't hurt sides offensively. Let's fix it.

Trengove should be a good player but honestly feel Grimes is a similar type - in short he may only be a slight upgrade on the types of mid we already have on our list. Morabito has the potential to be a star, a Goodes type game breaker.

Scully is a lock-in for pick 1. He is pure class, the ultimate professional. Very quick & skilful. Our club has been dying for someone like this to come along. Jack Watts will be a gun too. If we can nab pick 2 and get another star, we're on our way.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
