Totally wrong on Grimes - he had a great game - only his third, yet he looks like he's played 100. His kicking was perfect and displayed excellent decision making under pressure. Thought Maric was pretty good as well today.

Murphy had 7 kicks on him in the first quarter and Akermanis kicked most of his goals on him too !

It WAS a game to forget .

I really liked Grimes' game. I thought he played well, found a lot of the ball and defended well when he could. A couple of goals against him he couldn't stop.

He's just about the best 3rd gamer i've ever seen pretty much. Gonna be a player!!

Thought Dunn, Bartram, Petterd were poor. Next level up Robbo wasn't great. Strong team effort though.

Murphy only had 6 kicks. I'd suggest that rather than forget the game Grimes would be better off learning from it. Aker is capable of kicking a few quick goals on any opponent.

I too consider that Jack did very well especially considering the calibre of his opposition. He'll only get better.

I'm pretty sure Grimes was on Brad Johnson for a fair chunk of the game, but it's hard to judge from where I sit.

Grimes has played just 3 games, and has the composer of a veteran. Love him! :wub:

Dunn kills me. GO HARD OR [censored] OFF. Did some really good things, and then completely stuffed us up with his unwillingness to dive head first into contests.

And if only Whelan was 10 years younger and didn't have the body of a porcelain doll. He is awesome!

Joeboy - Watched different game.

Grimes was superb. Murphy's possessions in the first were not dangerous and were up the ground and wide. Akermanis kicked one whilst on Grimes but kicked 2 on Whelan whose performance you have hailed.

Harsh on Bate. He's been in poor form this season, but today he was very good.

Provided a target and contested really well. Kicked 4 and had a hand in a couple more. What more do u want from him, especially considering his form in previous weeks? Was a big step-up today. If he didn't play as well as he did, we wouldn't have been anywhere near as close as we were.

Spot on. Grimes was fantastic, and spent time on players like Johnson Aker etc. To play on guys of that calibre and not be disgraced is a mega effort for the youngster. He's gonna be around a long time ol' Grimey!

I didn't realise he kicked four in the end, but he still lacked class and smarts.

I doubt it. I just don't think he's going to make it. Probably will get another go next week but from what I saw today he just couldn't impose himself on contests.

You're right, he was. Joeboy was wrong to criticise him IMO. He showed composure, good skill and a willingness to get the contested ball. Unlike some...

Dunn should have been dropped, and really, really, really should be dropped this week.

Brodie Holland is back.

Morton played well, I never said he didn't. But right now he just lacks that potency that I have no doubt will come as he matures and puts on a bit of size.

Also wanted to add that Martin was so good today.

Killed his direct opponent and gave us some good drive out of the backline. Kicking is a bit iffy, but god he's got great skills for a giagantasorous!

Agree with Whelan assessment....only hope he can hang 'round to provide backline support as the rebuild continues.

Find it really frustrating to see one of the younger backbones of the club failing to produce under pressure. Brock McLean does some really good stuff in and under, but he suffers from a lack of leg speed and a low completion rate with his kicks. I watched at least three turnovers today that led to dogs goals directed attributable to his shortocomings. With only a 7 point margin this is significant.

On a positive note, Grimes looks to have the goods as does Maric. Bate needs to choose better options on occasions but is showing good consolidation as a key forward. Brad Miller is a paradox. He has the ability to be a new age Neitz, but too often he doesn't impose himself on the game....at least his kicking is getting better. Also like the way Johnson takes the game on and uses his mobility around the ground.

Cale Morton is another top performer...he gets plenty of the ball and generally uses it well. He does need to work on developing a more penetrating kick as "lollypops" can create turnovers. He also doesn't always have the time he thinks to dispose of the ball; bit more talk would help

Moloney is now producing consistent hard ball gets and his penetrating kicks to the forward line can place oppositions under great pressure.

Last but not least, what would we do without Aaron Davey. He is now rated as one of the league's best play creators from half back. Also, well done to Robbo for adding some spice to the forward line. If he is not taking hangers he is at least bringing the ball to ground for Maric and co.

I can now see the future is very bright for the Dees.....today's result would have been different but for some turnovers from experienced players and some questionable decisions from the umps.....could someone tell the men in white what jumper pulls look like - the contest was killed off deep in Q4 with a clear jumper pull on Silvia as he tried to re-enter the contest.

Learn to evaluate the game you're at and not spew out preconceived views.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.
