Jack Watts at Brighton Grammar

I'm sure there are a lot of people who are as nervous as I am about Jack playing for his school this week.

How are we going to find out if he gets through it in once piece?

I'm personally dead against this. If he wanted to play school footy he shouldn't have nominated for the draft last year.

If he gets hurt in school footy well that means he shouldn't be playing AFL this year, Although he could get injured accidentally but an accident is an accident and you cant put cotton wool around him.

yeah, we shouldn't play him at Casey either, cos its just an opportunity for him to get hurt.

Actually, even at AFL level, we should save him for big games like against Geelong, or in finals. You know, just in case.

fair point, but at least when he plays in the VFL it is contributing to his development so if he gets hurt its as a result of trying to further ready him for AFL , but it just seems its a meaningless school footy game which will have no impact on his development/transition to AFL.

I just can't see it happening in a school game.

Blease only got hurt cos he was fu%&ing around, not playing properly. And the other guy probably targetted him cos he's a ranga

Maybe to the MFC.

Probably not to Jack.

12 possessions in school footy????

Are you joking???

Surely the boy would carve up out there, unless he was just messin' around (in which case he shouldn't have played)

I am all for him playing school footy, as long as he is using the skills he has learnt at training with the Dees.... Don't just mess around.... If you are not 100% switched on and playing flat out, that is when injuries occur!

Go Dees....

Maybe he was used sparingly - it seems contradictory I know but given the club gave Watts a fair bit of leeway maybe they had a few conditions. Until we get some more match details it is hard to make a claim on this I suppose.

i cant verify that he kicked a goal, as i only could stay for a little bit, but he did start off CHB. the boy definitely has a good football brain, and can obviously read the play well. he is tall too! miles above the rest of the school boys.

just as i was leaving at quarter time, a bit of biff started up the other end of the ground & i overheard one of the MGS boys yell out that one of their boys decked watts, but i saw him in the huddle & he didn't look too phased. nothing major to worry about really.

we are on to a winner with jack "whopper" watts! bring on 2014!!!!

raa dees.

I really doubt he would have played a full game. Probably 50-60%. I don't Melbourne/Casey would have been keen on him playing a full game.

This thread is schizophrenic!

He had 12 possessions, he was at CHB, he played half a game, he got decked, he kicked 3 goals, he's crap, he's awesome... wow!

If he had 1 possession and didn't get injured, that's all I care about.

He has absolutely nothing to prove at this level, which is evident by the fact that he apparently played at CHB!

My brother was at the game. Came home with a big smile on his face

Kicked 3 goals one of them an absolute belter.

Apparently was switched around from chb to chf whichever way the wind was going.

BGS were 5 goals down at 3 quarter time with Watts kicking 2 in the last quarter and having a helping hand in pretty much every other one.

Was tagged by Alex Keath apparently a potential #1 pick.

Seemed like he was pretty f'ing good.

thought i'd go and have a look today, and saw the last 3 quarters. first thing i saw when i got there was jack take a good strong mark on the lead, 50 out on the boundary. umpire hurried him on pretty quickly and called play on, so jack ran in, stepped off his right foot to get around the man on the mark and dobbed it from the boundary 45m out, an absolutely magic goal.

i reckon he would have got about 20 touches for the game and i don't think he missed a target once. although he didn't absolutely carve the game apart for 4 quarters like i have seen some kids do at aps level, as a key position player it is obviously more hard to do so in what was a low-scoring affair. he was clearly the best player on the ground though, and what struck me was how clean he was with his disposal and how every one of his kicks went to a bgs players advantage. it was terrific to see. he ended up with 3 goals in the 3 quarters i saw, not sure if he kicked any in the first. he played centre half back in the 3rd quarter when bgs were kicking into the wind and you could tell he was a natural forward, accountability wasnt his number 1 priority and he played a sort of sweeper role with the occasional burst up the ground. 2nd and 4th quarters he played a combination of on-ball and forward, whenever he went forward mgs star player alex keath abandoned his sweeping half back role and went straight to him. as an ex ggs boy myself i went into the game not really caring who won but hoping jack did well, but by the end i was firmly barracking for bgs, i do find it hard to be neutral watching a game of footy. with brighton 5 goals down at 3/4 time things looked grim but jack really came alive in the last quarter and kicked 2 good goals from set shots, one from a big mark and another from a free kick, both from about 35m out. how he didn't end up with another 7 or 8 free kicks (seriously) on top of the 3 or 4 he did get is beyond me...every time he went near the ball mgs double and triple teamed him, often with their eyes on jack and not the ball and obviously impeding him, but the umps were just letting them get away with it time after time. anyway bgs roared back into it in the last qtr and the game ended up being a draw. brighton probably should have won in the end and had 5 more scoring shots - 9.12 to 10.6.

all in all it was a very exciting performance, he is a really beautiful kick and presents well which i liked - he always wants the ball and makes good decisions. bit of aggro there too which i liked - didnt take any garbage from keath who i thought was disappointing actually after hearing big wraps about him.

i think we've got a 200+ game player at the club and a very, very good one at that.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
