I know I might be the odd one out here but I didn't think that Maric's disposal was up to standard today- I think he needs a couple of more weeks to settle at Casey. I thought his return game would be great, but he had 13 possessions at 31% effectivness, and he never looked like a forward target, his role was running across half forward and the midfield without much of a clue of what of what he had to do, which was disappointing to see from him. If he had kicked a goal or two I would forgive him, but that isn't to be.

Bate leads for the ball too often and then barely goes up to mark it in a contested situation, and his decision making was horrible today. He didn't kick a goal again today, which is worrying for a forward.

Jetta and Cheney should provide much more to the team than these two do.

I find that staggering, honestly, and a little sad that there are still people not willing to give one of our kids a chance to learn and develop.

Look, i'm sure people saw shades of this today but we can win games!

Why not put our best team on the track each week, and battle out to win games like we did with Geelong today?

I want our best side to be playing against West Coast next week, which is a game we are very likely to win.

Now, ideally i'd like to see Newton spend a couple more weeks at VFL level to consolidate his form, but i have a feeling DB asked him to go back and play a good game to re-gain his spot in the side. With Bate's continued poor form, and Juice getting 5 and B.O.G (personally TBH i thought Valenti should have got it), i think he's done what was asked of him and will probably get a call up.

Dunn just went today and IMO does not attack the footy hard enough in marking contests. McNamara was very impressive with his run, size and mobility, drifting forward for a few shots on goal and taking some nice overhead marks. He also reads the play beautifully and is courageous in the air, unlike Dunn. Playing him down back, in the role Garland normally plays, could allow Martin to spend some more time up forward perhaps? He could also potentially play on the wing with his ability to run and carry the footy.

He's underdone. No point rushing him in then he fails to produce. Then he has Us, the Dodgy journo's and who ever else on his back.

Aussie had a great preseason

He did on the track but he hasn't struck a blow on the ground. He was injured in the first quarter in the first NAB cup game and I think I'm right in saying that he's played two games with Casey; last week and yesterday.

King ruffled his feathers yesterday and he didn't stand up. He needs a fair bit of time at Casey for mine.

Belly was in fair form prior to breaking his thumb and I'm pretty sure he would have been in our best 22. Back last week where he suffered concussion and he was strong at the ball yesterday and did a lot of the hard work. Won't be back next week I wouldn't think but will get a chance this year at some stage.

I can't see Newton back BR. I reckon Bails will make him put in three or four strong performances for Casey.

Well clearly nobody valued Bell's ability to win the contested ball yesterday with Casey.

At the end of the day, Bell needs to prove himself so that we know whether or not he is worth keeping on the list at the end of the year. He has had a good pre-season and showed plenty as a midfielder. Had he not broken his thumb he would have been a certainty to play Round 1.

No he isn't the greatest footballer going around, but he goes in hard, is a superb tackler, has a bit of pace to burn and his disposal is generally good.

That IMO puts his ahead of Dunn for example, who too often just doesn't go in hard enough... the one quality that you cannot forgive a footballer for.

If Grimes was fit, I'd play him ahead of Bell, if Bail was ready, I'd play him ahead of Bell too. But Dunn needs to go back to Casey and prove that he isn't scared of getting hurt. Bell seems the logical replacement (given the others aren't fit, and Valenti won't be promoted). So it's not changes for the sake of changes IMO.

Aussie may not deserve a game on the strength of his performance on Saturday, but he definitely deserves a game on the back of his pre-season and efforts last year. Just as we can't judge Newton on one good VFL performance, we can't judge Aussie on one poor VFL performance.

We know he can perform at the highest level, so just play him.

I liked a few things bell did in the clearances yesterday, it's a new role for him to learn. I'd give him 6 weeks at Casey playing as an inside mid to see if he can cut it.

We can, but dropping Maric for Jetta isn't going to be the difference between a win and a loss.

We've turned up for 2 games this year, and suddenly we can beat West Coast at Subiaco. I'd say its very unlikely.

At first I thought Maric should be dropped. But considering the comments of others I agree he should be given another run. We all know he's got plenty of tricks and footy smarts. Today just wasn't his day.

I'm not sure Wona is deserving of a game from what I saw of his form at Casey.

Does Whelan come into consideration? He showed some good form.

And I think Matthew Bate is pushing his chances. Simply hasn't come along this season.

I don't want to be unduly harsh on any particular player.... buuuutt, how long do we persist with PJ? We were slaughtered for most of the match, and if you believe the AFL site, Dunn had more hitouts than either Meesen and PJ for nearly half the match. What's PJ done this season to justify his spot in the 22? We'd be better off with one ruckman and using someone like Dunn or Newton to pinch hit.

Jaded, winning the contested ball isn't the problem, (100 compared to Geelongs 130 and 24 clearances compared to 30) the problem is obviously we butchered the ball so badly that no matter how often we got to use it we just gave it right back to them. I really like Belly's attitude and courage, but I think it's touch and go as to whether he'll make it as a midfielder. As for Bate it wasn't his best game, but from what I saw nearly everytime he went to the ball he was competing against two and three Geelong players.

Bate - At the moment if the ball is not delivered to his chest he really struggles to win possesion. Needs to go back to Casey and rediscover his overhead marking and work on his ability to take possesion when the ball is on the ground. Also needs to work on his lateral movement, too often he is out of the contest after the first effort.

188cm, good pace/leap/overhead mark. Kicked 3 for Casey against Coburg. 2007 rookie who missed 2008 completely recovering from hip surgery before being re rookied this year.

And the controversial one which should happen but probably won't.

James McDonald. A player who has always given his all but is now a liabiliy. Out goes Junior. I think the game has passed one of our great soldiers by. A player who walked off the ground every time he played knowing that he had given his all.

Shane Valenti (promoted to cover either Garland or Blease being put on the Long term Injury List)

Didn't look out of place at AFL level in his 9 games last season. Strong body, good hands and good footwork in close and can distribute well. Just keeps excelling at VFL level and deserves a chance to prove his worth.

Went to the Casey game. Bell did win possesion well for Casey but did not use it well. Needs to show more for mine to be promoted. McNamara would be ahead of Bell for a game. Reads the play well, showed poise in defence and runs hard to create options. Newton did his chance of a recall no harm. Whelan and Wonaeamirri both need another run at Casey as does Grimes who was pretty much unsighted till the last quarter.

PJ wasn't our worst today. He spent a limited amount of time in the ruck and did ok while he was in there. The bigger issue for mine was Meesen, after playing almost a full match on the ball, managed only FIVE hitouts for the game. 5. Versus Blake's 29. Just not good enough to be heading our ruck division IMO.

Newton played well in the VFL, Bate hasn't played well for a while the problem with Bate is that he is a bit too slow and a bit too small to play as a lead up forward he may have to play up on a wing to give him more freedom. If Newton keeps kicking like he has been he will be dropped again quick smart. If they dropped Jetta for his poor kicking last week then they have to drop Maric his disposal was even worse.

i hope so...but have no idea. he is 22, so if he is a chance of making it, we would want to give him a go in the not too distant future
