If we have 1 & 2 it is a no brainer that we will take Scully and Butcher they fill in two important gaps. After that it depends on whether draftees are better than who we would replace. Spoke to an Old Xaverian yesterday. He said while Hailebury got flogged, Scully is something special. Fast, good body size and excellent on both sides of his body. He is the sort of player who can break the lines and given we have Junior and Bruce in their twilight, Scully seems to me to be a must pick up.

I too spoke to an Old Xav and he said that Hailebury won easily. One of us has his wires crossed - probably me.

Whilst the draft may be considered shallow or weak (although this cannot be determined until a couple of years after the draft itself), should we happen to have picks 1 & 2 or 1 & 3, we will not even consider trading for them (unless for a Pavlich/Selwood 2 for 1 deal)

Scully atm is the deserved #1 pick, and he would go very high in any draft, Butcher whilst not going as high in the stronger drafts, would not go below the top 10 (if that) in any draft.

And what are the 2 things we are crying out for most, a classy, quick, skillful inside midfielder and another tall forward. Depending on what 2nd round pick we would get and possibly throwing in a Bate, who knows what we could get in return. But alas, it is only the end of round 6. I will not allow myself to get too involved in this sort of thing yet.

Agreed. I would doubt we'd give up our top picks. I can't imagine for who we might trade them.

We've just got to keep bringing in the young talent and Scully sounds like a perfect fit for us right now.

I've heard mixed reviews of Butcher. But if the recruiters deem him the next best available talent, we should definately take him.

Im sorry I just cant fathom why anyone is considering handing over a hard to get early pick in the last of the even drafts for at least 5 years.

We are NOWHERE near a tilt and near to bolster the ranks and improve the overall gene pool. We dont have 'that' much that we can afford to be cavalier about it now.

Picks 1 and 2 stay firmly in our hands for the best 2 players.. By al lmeans see who comes to the table for other offerings ut these two are non negotiable to me.

Next year is a different kettle of fish

Keep in mind other teams will be even more poorly situated with regard to the draft and their lists going forward. They are hardly likley to hand over anything near what those prized picks are worth.

Two or three of Robbo, Whelan, Wheatley and Junior.

Three/Four out of PJ, Jamar, Bate, Dunn, Bell, McNamara, Buckley. There may be others as I dont have a complete list of expiries.

I would not want to be a listed player with a contract expiry that has not been injured and is not cracking a regular senior game this year.

Bolded are those that I think are a chance to be moved on, and OOC, but...

Junior is the captain and still doing a job.

PJ and Jamar are ruckmen, poor ones I know, but unlikely to get rid of both if either.

McNamara might be one to come from nowhere like Garland did last year, was impressive against Coburg.

Bate has a contract and Buckley will not be moved on. Robbo looks over his injury to me, looked very good against Scarlett.

Keep in mind this isnt Rotary or such.. theres no clause that requires or allows a current captain to automaticaly play on ( Go ask Neeta )

Jnr is most likely as they say an interim leader. If he cant add to the equation then y default hes detracting from it. MFC must leasrn only those adding can be in the team. AlL good things comes to an end and so it wil for some stalwart and loved club players.. thats just life !!

Ignoring the specifics those are the sort of deals that are more likely to occur this year than the last few years. Getting a player and dropping a few spots on the order may be seen as good sense in an ordinary draft year.

While I agree with Redleg in theory what has Sylvia done in 6 years in a bottom ranked side that would justify a first round pick from anyone?

And by the way, PJ makes Jamar on the sidelines a more effective ruckman.
