I think the way it will work, in players comming from other team wise, is that GC17 will pick who they want, if the player CHOOSES to go then fine if not the AFL could NOT force them to go if they don't wish. And if the AFL forces them they just give up the game for a year and join the draft next year. An uncontracted player, if left uncontracted, would join the draft as normal, i think this is just a way for the GC17 to bypass the draft and pick who they want thats out of contract, as i said IF they WANT to go.

The AFL won't force anyone who is uncontracted to go.

That said, if they don't really want to go, chances are they'll have signed a contract won't they......

I wish the AFL would clarify things. Look how many theories as to how this works have been thrown up just by Demonlanders. No one really knows what's going on.

My info came from an interview with GC's recruiting manager Scott Clayton, so I'll take it as gospel.

The AFL will ask all 16 clubs to nominate 12 untouchables.

That's easy then. Of the players that are coming out of contract, we'll sign up the guys we don't want to let go the most, then the remaining players that are uncontracted that we still want, we just add them to the list that GC can't touch.

Exactly my point though. Happy for these 2 to be out of contract, but what if it was Watts??? Who actually probably has a 2 year contract to begin with... What's to stop them from poaching Watts?

Nothing, if he wants to go.

I'm not exactly sure how it works, but from what I understand, GC 17 have the option to take 1 uncontracted player from each club. I'm not sure if they need that player's consent, but presuming they can pick anybody, and have openly stated they want Riewoldt, Buddy, Petterd etc, is it not true that the smartest clubs will move now to prevent their biggest stars from being poached? I for one would be gutted if, let's say, we built ouselves back into contention with a list based around players we developed into stars, back into finals contention, only to lose a vital cog in that wheel (eg. and important KPP or a genuine A-grader star) to the CG team. So whatt can we do to prevent this? Can all players who are due to come out of contract in 2010 and who we believe to be in the 'untouchable' category be signed to new contracts that don't expire until 2011 before their current contract expires (ie now)? Is this a legitimate tactic? And what other methods can you guys come up with to ensure we don't get shafted? I believe that a couple of clubs will get short-changed and be helpless in losing a player they put years of development into. This seems unfair, and I can't understand how the clubs agreed to this concession...

The answer is simple. Sign anyone at risk to a contract beyond 2010.

Don't worry about contract tricks, follow the African example in fighting poachers like saving the Rhinos. Fast helicopter response teams, heavily armed rangers to take down the poachers before they get their target.

Trust me, after eliminating a few poachers in this pro-active manner the rest will stay away :)

And a bonus is we can fundraise for it like other conversation groups lol...

each to their own. both cant kick but Frawley plays key position which is more important.

I think on paper; our team for the future is looking quite good.

FB: Cheney Garland Frawley

HB: Strauss Rivers Petterd

C: Blease Mclean Morton

HF: Wonaeamirri Watts Sylvia

FF: Maric ? S.Martin

Foll: Spencer, Jones, ?

Int: Buckley, Bate, Dunn, Grimes

Gee, if only those question marks represented Butcher and Scully. I think Scully would have gone number 1 in last years national draft. Best handballer ive seen. A quicker version of Simon Black basically.

Nice work Freak.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
