To those who saw our praccy game V's Sydney and Bulldogs, what are your thoughts and opinions on these 2 boys.

What did you like about them?

What do they need to work on?

What positions did they mostly play?

Is one more ready than the other?

Have a feeling one of these 2 boys will be selected tonight due to a few injuries.

Feedback appreciated as these 2 guys are hopefully going to be 10 year excitement machines for the club!

Hello,

Have watched both of them four times already and spoken to them twice.

They are two completely different players which is good.

Bennell is the silky smooth (as in Andrew McLeod mode, no I am not comparing him), knows where to go and seems to have time and has already thought through what he is going to do before he does it. Good kicking skills

Jetta is more the Byron Pickett model, tough, loves the hard stuff with moments of extraordinary brilliance, knows exactly where the goals are.

Benell has been played down back across the half back line and in the pocket. (DB says he can play anywhere)

Jetta has been up forward (DB seems him as a midfielder/goal kicking forward)

Not sure what 'AFL ready' means, nobody knows that until they are out on the field, both could do with a bit more size, but neither would disgrace if they made their debut tonight.

DB has namechecked Jetta as pushing for selection, but you never know ever before the first game of the season how many smokescreens are being put up.

(away from the topic slightly I think Meesen will be picked tonight, and if he fails then the possie is Spencers from then on)

When I spoke to both, Bennell was the same, smooth, thanked me for my best wishes for his future, Jetta stuck his chest out and said 'you looking forward to a bit of excitement!

bennell has a real up and under kick and IMO ATM is a week link across half back. Pro's-gets plenty of the ball and seems to do a job.

Jetta is polished and looks snr standard for mine.

Both have the "X" factor

IMO Bennell is an elegant footballer, Jetta is a more the gritty type

From what I've seen Bennell is further ahead in development, seems very poised and settled out there playing as a reliable small back, he has to compete with the likes of Whelan, Cheney & Grimes to get a spot in a solid defence though.

Jetta plays forward and our forward line is rubbish, so due to this I think Jetta will get his opportunity first. I like Jetta, looks an exciting player, but from what I've seen he is neither the size nor style of player to ever be an AFL midfielder.

Jetta is closer to playing for 2 reasons.

1. He plays in an area of the ground which we are deficient (injuries and lack of depth). IE the forward line.

2. He is physically bigger and stronger and looks like he could cop the punishment.

For mine, Bennell is a better prospect long term but he will take a while to fill out from the looks of him. His comment in the Melbourne Magazine about adding only 2 more kilos is laughable. He is pretty fearless in my eyes but he bounced off a couple of Doggies players a couple of weeks ago.

There's an article in The Age today about these two; I can't find it online.

Both of them have put on a couple of kgs since they joined us. From the article it would seem that Jetta will debut first, possibly this week. Bennell seems to think he'll need time at Casey before he gets a game (he's being groomed as a half-back flanker).

That entire post is 100% spot on.

Yeah, Jetta for mine.

Looks strong enough to play at the top level and we need some excitment in our somewhat "noname" forward line. Although I too was very impressed with Bennell against the Doggies. Will be a future star for the Demons if he continues his development.

From the two times i've seen them play, I think that Bennell is perhaps a classier player, but Jetta is the most likely to be playing. Basically because there is more room in the team for a small forward than for a half back flank.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
