Colin Sylvia- Complaints, Congratulations and Comments

When was he drafted RR, what....... 5 years ago?.

Of course there are others responsible and they are the people, over that time, charged with the duty to manage the list appropriately. We are paying the price for that list management...or lack of it, right now.

Apologies if this has been covered on another thread I may have overlooked, but I have been away on business. It was interesting to listen to Mark Robinson last night on SEN, discussing the Burgoyne/Davey incident. Robinson commented that the Burgoyne incident was a low act, but what was worse was that after it happened, not one Demon player flew the flag to defend Flash.

What was lacking was that no steel or resolve was demonstrated as a result. Colin Sylvia epitomises that lack of steel and that is why he will never deliver what his high draft selection suggests he should have.

List managers should be able to identify that lack of a character trait and move on it sooner rather than later. I suggest it is way too late now.

Its his sixth year of AFL football. Regardless of what has happened before, it is now up to Colin to deliver in 2009. His off field and on field performance suggest that he does not get it to the level required by an AFL footballer.

You raise a good issue about list management. I hope Prendergast has got it right with his picks and that Connolly and Co are providing the best player development possible.

Then it is up to the club to deal with that.

with all due respect..how and why ?? Hes a big boy..ought to be ale to tie ownlaces and make his bed etc.. He alone is accountable for his life.. he alone must decide whether he wants IN..or OUT !!

The club provides a conduit and opportunity for him to immerse himself in a pastime of his choice. If he doesnt want to..no one can make him. So far the concensus around is thathe just doesnt want to. Hardly the clubs fault.. It cant MAKE him!!

Because the club has a duty to the other players on the list, its sponsors, coteries and supporters in general.

If there is a high cost employee, despite the fact that they are undoubtedly blessed with natural talent, you don't persist after 5 years of under achieving, when it affects the whole "business".

in light of understanding better your angle..then yes.. it must deal with him in that respect.. the door is a good suggestion..

Colin must decide whther he's a with us...or agin us.. and deliver; and the club must decide whther hes even worth the perserverance. ' been a poor return for mine..

as they say..time to go .................!!!

This year is very important for two players, Sylvia and Newton. I have basically given up hope for Sylvia but am still hopeful for Newton.

I think we may be able to still get something for Sylvia. I wish they traded him last year to be honest.

Correct i have already said that. Answer my Question. Give me a game where Colin Sylvia took it upon himself to impose the Great Melbourne Football Club on the opposition. Practise Games Don't Count btw.

Six years i have waited for the silky skills of the number 12. Show me where they are.....

Hang on,hang on, imposing himself on the game..............go through 90% of the list and you will find players who haven't imposed themselves on a game, that's half our problem, and not a problem to be laid solely at the feet of Col.

Because a player doesn't impose himself on a game, doesn't mean they aren't talented.

We're talking marking, kicking, handballing, reading the play, etc etc..............his ability to do the fundamentals of the game better than another player.

Think you've got you meanings mixed up there champ!

I Haven't got my meanings mixed up at all champ. You are telling me that Colin Sylvia is blessed with great talent, once again i am asking you to show me some examples of such.

When has Sylvia stood up in the team and said "That position in the 22 is mine & i am going to keep it" When has Colin Sylvia directed traffic on the ground in a high pressure Quarter or half of a game we needed to win??

That to me is AFL Talent & that is what people remember & expect from so called champions. In 6 years has Colin Sylvia ever got close to showing those traits?? I say No he hasn't & sadly has a wooden heart when the heat is on.

He's not as skilled as a Gary Ablett, or Luke Hodge, but his football skills are better than most of the players on our list. Plenty of times I have seen him take strong overhead marks, kick long range goals, deliver lace out passes etc. The guy has the ability to play the game better than nearly all of our players. He simply does have talent.

Have I seen it as oftern as we would all like..............of course not!

And looking at plenty of the other posts many agree he has talent.........what we can all agree on is we simply don't see it enough.

I don't recall him being called a champion either. Pick 3 comes with no guarentees. Plenty of ordinary footballers have been top draft picks, and never reached their potential.

Most of the vitriol towards Col seems to be about him being such a high pick and not delivering to that expectation........I can understand that, but we have to face the possibilty that it will never eventuate, and he may end up just being an average footballer.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the talent point. I think we can both agree that we would like to seen him deliver on his potential a lot more than what we currently are.

I see what you're selling there and from the outsides it looks ok. After having driven it around the block a few times not sure if I am sold as yet.

Those two running goals outside fifty showed what a talent he is, just needs to produce that every week now.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
