A word on how the rucks are going, especially in any kind of contesting situations, would be nice.

Thanks DW. In addition to the other requests, I'm really keen to know how Sef. Martin is shaping up. Havn't heard very much about him this year, and based on his promising debut season, I'm really excited about his prospects.

Grimes please.

Also if u could tell us if u notice some positional changes, like Jrivers, Cgarland playing forward or sylvia, petterds maric training with midfiled group. anything unusual.

Reported on Demonology that Jamar was wearing a moon boot. Our ruck stocks being as thin as they are can ill afford either Jamar or PJ to be missing games.

On that, How is PJ looking for the oncoming season? Didn't he have hip surgery at the end of last season?

Our rucks are average, I say stick an extra mid in their, sod the ruck, better a good mid than a dud ruck, PJ is ok, donoughts I'm still not convinced about.

I ran into Sylvia and his manager (Tom Pretoro, he's an old friend) in the CBD last week. Col looked simply awesome, fittest looking person I've seen in the flesh for a long time.

When Syl wandered off mid-conversation to put something down, Tom whispered to me that he is due for a massive season. It could be because he's up for contract at the end of the year and Tom is wanting to talk up his street value. But he did mention that he's off the grog, eating right and has been extra sessions to condition his body right.

Look out boys 2009 and could well be remembered as the year of the Svelt Sylvia!

Indeed, name a player who's flying on the track or having their best season for years and dollars-to-donuts it'll be the the player who is out of contract at the year's end. Gotta love one year contracts.

I swear this was being talked up this time last year.

Why make a weak point weaker? An extra mid will not mean anything if the opposition gets a clean and uncontested tap at the ball to a waiting player. Our midfield quality is sorely tested and bumping up quantity does not solve the problem.

Agree.

And isnt great that at this time of year every side is "training the house down".

Too true! Its very unlikely to hear that a team is "taking it easy" over the pre-season.

Official Press Conference from head coach:

"Yeah, our boys have been hard it watching the Cricket & Tennis and have been on teh golf course at least 3 times a week. Our ruckman has a bad bout of intergestion but I reckon he'll be right by round 1".

Haha

no doubt our players wish we had a wet and wild down here...

vossy has his finger on the pulse - knows how hard we've been training, blah, blah.......

after last season, our players deserved to be belted - lack of fitness and some of the worst skills seen of any afl side...

The Febey's were notorious for this...

I remember this quote from an apparently famous american NFL coach, I can't remember his name but it went something like this...

"Give me a team full of guys in their last year of their contracts and I'll give you a champion team"

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

We'll break down the Match SIM against North Melbourne and wrap up the preseason with insights into training and our latest recruits.
