Major Sponsor

You'd hope they'd have something to announce by the AGM / information night, otherwise the mood could be very unpleasant.

If they do announce that night, and keep a bar open at the 'G, they'll make thousands just out of people buying celebration drinks.

I hope you are right. I am also pondering if they are just waiting for the Tennis to finish so we can get maximum press exposure with an announcement. It just seems awfully quiet on the whole sponsorship issue from the club ATM

We live in a country that has a swimming pool named after a prime minister who drowned so we can have a football club with addicted gamblers among its past players and still be sponsored by a gambling operation. Makes a good fit IMO.

Just if you wanted to know. The pool was actually named the Harold Holt Memorial Swimming Centre for many years and the reason they changed the title was due to the abbreviated version that it had become known by.

I know this sounds like a fairytale story, but I just don't think it is going to work like this.

I recon that we would have a couple of backers offering x amount and we are holding off for as long as we possibly can to try to either reach a better agreement or find something else. From some of the whispers I have heard, people believe the club will be lucky to get over 5-600 K in yearly sponsorship from the major sponsor, which is about half of what primus were giving us.

So, I think Schwab and co will hold off a little longer, but when a deadline arises, they may then accept their best offer and go from there. I doubt that they are just waiting for a nice time to make an announcement.

If the deal is only 500 - 600K due to lack of a good offer at crunch time, i'd expect us to do a 1 year contract & hope that by the end of season 2009 our form demands better FTA tv exposure & a better sponsorship deal.

Hope being the operative word. I suspect that even if we make the top four our draw won't improve significantly, because regardless of what the AFL might say, the draw has nothing to do with performance and every thing to do with ratings. As for our sponsor, Cameron's just ironing out the last few tin-tacks....

Good games & good teams get ratings.

If we show we've turned the corner & become a good team, then we'll get the draw.

And i agree (hope) that its the finer details being discussed at this point.

There's no evidence of a major sponsor on the horizon and what's worse is that every time I pick up a newspaper I read about this company or that pulling out of a major sponsorship. Today it's Toyota pulling out of the Australian Rally Championships. I wish the club luck but this was a hell of a bad time for our Primus contract to end.

it seems melbourne supporters (myself included) have a bad habit of relying on a perceived "messiah" to get us out of trouble. jack watts kicking goals or not kicking goals will hardly make a difference towards us getting a major sponsor during the next 3-4 years

Soon to be launched in Australia!

JUNGLE APE.COM

Visit the website in the month of May/June. Due for completion.

I would love to be able to sponsor the club in the near future in a small way. I am not big enough to be a major sponsor but I am aiming high and would think I could be able to make an impact in the future.

Who is JUNGLE APE? A funky t-shirt brand. Look out JAPE is coming!

WAIT.

Back it up a bit.

Dude - Jungle Ape? JAPE? You're kidding right..? Surely you've heard of BAPE or Bathing Ape?

Even if this isn't a blatant cheap imitation because you're completely ignorant of the original, you'll have little success since it will still look like one.

Please tell me you aren't going to rip this off, cos its embarrassing. Right down to using the same abbreviation! man...

If this genuinely is something completely different, then i apologise.

But this also has 'copyright infringement' written all over it & MFC would not ever want to be seen connected to that.

That's if you want to give Buddy the credit for all of Hawthorn's successes.

I definitely wouldn't.

a full forward doesnt bring a major sponsor. franklin had nothing to do with NSBC (or whatever it's called) and Tasmania. But yes, I do believe with your general opinion

Jungle Ape is an original and not a cheap imitation! And is so different to the other.

Log on to JUNGLEAPE.COM in the month of May. Then you can give your opinion! JAPE V BAPE

Completely original..? I don't think so

Ok, so we have:

a clothing label

specifically tee shirts

With the name Xxxxx Ape

Abbreviated to XAPE

All I see is a carbon copy. To the point where you even bring up the idea of 'JAPE V BAPE', so obviously you know it.

That's not just criticism mate, its constructive criticism - ie. the man on the street will see it as a cheap imitation. Change the name, save yourself the hassle.

Is Jape made in China or India?

On the Major sponser it is a little concerning hopefully the club is waiting for the tennis to finish so we can get maximum exposure for our new sponser with the media outlets. If my company sponsered the club I would expect to be on the last couple of pages of the Sun and not tucked in behind the 10 pages of tennis.

You don't get it, do you?

Not only was it constructive criticism, its not like you have 'McDonalds' restaurants popping up next to 'MacDonalds' & selling 'Big Max'.

Competition is great, but don't try to pass it off as 'original' is all i'm saying.

Good luck to him, but i think he'll need it.

Meanwhile, Stynes is confident the Demons will be able to secure a major sponsor before the start of the season.

"We are talking to everybody. Because we know how important it is, we will bend over backwards to ensure the sponsor gets a great deal.

"It will certainly be one of the best value sponsorships in the AFL this year because of the circumstances."

I find it coincidental that both Melb and Richmond don't have sponsers, I think both are still working on the betting agencies with the AFL. It wouldn't supprise me to see us with Centrebet, sports bet, bet fair or another on the back of our jumper. Give it a few weeks if both clubs still don't have major sponsers the AFL will have to reconsider its ruling on these betting agencies.

cording to the age tigers and luxbet have done the deal and it will be wrapped up soon, leaving only us without a sponsor - a factoid tucked away in a story by caro about cousins.

it's less money than tigers wanted but luxbet will be on the back of their guernsey

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
