Green Staying a Demon

This really does make me happy. I am one of the guys that couldn't have resisted a top ten pick for Green but I also knew deep down that we're probably the only people who realise that that is the realistic value of him. Be proud to finish in the red and blue Greeney, I look forward to seeing your influence over our young and emerging talent.

Will his holding out and assessing other clubs as an option harm his chances of being made Captain?

It shouldn't. Nobody knows whether the club gave Green their blessing to shop himself around on the proviso that Melbourne received adequate compensation. No club, other than the Swans, were prepared to give anything reasonable, hence he was happy to stay.

No, I would think his lack of leadership qualities and 9 years on inconsistent performance would be the actual reason.

He would only be considered purely because there are few options available for the job.

Didn't stop them from giving the job to Bruce......

And this is great news, hopefully he can help develop and teach those hundreds of kiddies we will have in our midst next year.

I am very relieved :P :D !!!

It's probably a mixture of him looking around, and us seeing what we could get for him.

Wouldn't imagine it'd play too much into the leadership debate

Were you interested in Brad Green?

It's official- he's signed for 3 years.

I'm glad he's signed because he's our best player.

However, MFC has farked up many time with 3 yr deal to 27 yrolds--- White and Yze come to mind.

Let's hope it doesn't happen again

4 consecutive top 5 finishes in the b&f. Really inconsistent.

Glad he's staying.

Correct--- quite remarkable.

top 5 in the bnf means ALOT. shows he's been in our top few players over a very long period of time.

should be our club captain next year

I'm very happy Green is staying. In this last uncompromised draft for some time, I don't think his true value was ever going to meet the current market. Last year, a late first round draft pick perhaps a la TJ, this year a second at best, and that after his best season.

As one of the few in 08 to show true leadership, rewarded in the end by being re-instated in the club leadership group mid season and then actually winning the club leadership award on B & F night, we needed him to remain. It sends the right message to the younger group that a club leader has chosen to stay when the option of moving to a club with more realistic finals' aspirations would have been appealing.

Remember, at 27, this was probably his last opportunity to put himself out there when at his highest currency. His next contract comes up at 30, and hopefully we're then looking at our own window, and he could look at doing a Crawf.

As one who can swing from one end of the ground to the other, actually hit targets, provide inspirational acts of courage and kick better than average goals, why would supporters of a team crying out for this, ever want to get rid of him?

Young players need leadership. He, McLean and Miller of the more mature brigade probably display it best.

Putting himself out there is not an act of disloyalty. In this day and age, it's a business and he was only assessing his options and value.

He would still be my captain in 09. Thanks for staying Greeny!

Jeez you guys are a loyal lot.

Green wanted to jump from our sinking ship but no-one else wanted him.

He didn't want to be a Dee next year.

No wonder his teamates don't rate him as a leader, leaders don't bail when the going gets too tough.

He tried to bail.

He was my favourite player, now he can go to hell.

Biff. None of those reasons or unwillingness to take the hard ball (which Greeny does) have stopped Bruce being named co -captain!!!

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
