Demonology had so much character so I tended to post more there whereas here seemed to be more of a fanfest. Demonology had  just some of the wittiest and funniest posters: Burnzo and Knackers etc; Hard fought battles between Rono and Baghdad Bob, Trav20 etc;

It all kind of went weird when IRW started an obsession with RobbieF and politics and then the takeover. Congrats to the people that revived it as its still hardcore Dees fans wanting to talk about hardcore Dees.

Am still posting there. Is now quite niche.

I read a lot of Demonology during the early 2000s - approx 2008 as it was one of the only footy forums I could access on my school computers.

Yze_Magic and Range Rover were my favourites, from memory there was also a ‘Hightower’ too, unless that was on here?

I had no idea about the coup business, that’s unbelievable, it sounds farcical at best! I’m somewhat disappointed I missed out on that.

It was a real battleground and there were so many fights it was unreadable, sane people went crazy over there.

O'logy was little like a small isolated island population, you know, like Tassie (no offence intended towards any Taswegians!)

Not sure who it was on there.  Might have been someone posting a Big Footy link.  It was an expose / parody on "the day i infilltrated the Richmond Grog Squad".

One of the funniest footy tales I've ever read.

I remember one highlight was the writer supposedely coming face to face with the legendary King Pin / leader of the squad.... Shazza!

i could be wrong but I believe Hightower still posts here under the name H_T.  Top notch poster.

Another 'ologist signing in!

Loved the eccentricity and the creativity of posters back then. Compulsory reading.

He was.a regular on bigfooty. The while being drafted thing was the funniest stitch up! A lot fell for it too.

That was bloody hysterical when he convinced a chunk of BigFooty that he was a chance to be drafted. He was mad as a meat axe the old Yze_Magic but jeez he could be fun. I remember one of his signatures was something like "Dean Bailey - sweeping the place out with his magical broom"

I was a co-founder of Demonology around 1997-8 for hazy memory, though I was a passenger and hardly a driving force.

It was originally a merger of three small fan sites. Demon Chronicles, Hoju’s and another I can’t recall.

I still play basketball with the main guy who founded the site, and lost touch with the other co-founder who ended up working at MFC for a few years and I still see him on LinkedIn.

HAHAHAH Range Rover and Baghdad Bob. I was only a kid and remember thinking "How the hell does someone from Baghdad know about the dee's"

@dazzledavey36 were those footy games organised through demonology or here?

Can't remember my name, something about Jack Grimes (who was my favorite) and the Simpsons no doubt.

I think they were organised mostly through demonland but use to have a few blow ins from Demonology who would also suit up.

Really great fun.

Maybe I honestly can't remember. I wouldn't have said much like here, more of a lurker. Love football theory and in depth analysis so prefer to read

I was originally an ologist sometime around early to mid 2000's. Went on here around the same time. My memory was different to others. I remember it being more civil over there and this place had a reputation for too much  juvenile infighting. But I came over at the time of that split around 2008. Thankfully mods have done a great job cleaning things up on here and a few people who needed to be have been moved on. Quality just keeps getting better. Mind you we all have a bit more positive things to say for the first time since '64. Nowadays look here before I look at any of the press. Way better informed and intelligent researched content than any of the fourth estate rags nowadays.

I agree. Myself and @Rhino Richardsdid the vast majority of the moderation on here in the early days after the platform move. Both of us copped quite a lot of stick for our hard line stance on things, but I’ve got zero regrets, I think it was essential for setting a benchmark for expected behaviour. I think it’s paid off now, but I’m probably biased!

Used to post there  under different name much more than here. Remember deestroy all a fair bit and the great TGR who was a legend in his own lunch time. Surprised g smith never came over.

He did, but goes on lots of holidays and isn't around much to see a lot of football, plus he lives on the Gold Coast.

That reminds me - markc was another passionate Melbourne man that frequented both sites. I hope I’ve got my wires crossed here but did I read recently that he had passed away?

I think this is a fantastically run and operated forum. There is enough room for vigorous debate without out too much "name calling"

It's a credit too you, I can't even keep 1 wife happy let-alone how ever many crazy fan we have here (how many of us is there 2000?)

Now that “epic” was reminiscent of the very first party at Sydney Cove. Some would say the true birthplace of Aussie culture.

Pretty accurate comparison of Scully and Trengove vs Dusty in there though - he was ahead of the curve.

I escaped from "Ology after the failed takeover. The Dr Who guy was a total weirdo who said he was only going to let "positive" posts stay up, and would delete anything that contained negativity.

I had the same name there, and spent most of my time back and forth with a nutter called "HellhathNoFury", who said he worked as an "Operative" and was always intimating he had deep contacts but never came out with any worthwhile info. Super aggressive type he was.

Hatchman still posts here but isnt nearly as active as he was on "Ology. Didnt always agree with him but his posts were always worth reading.

I met @GSmith12 and @RobbieF and @Kumatomo_Ken... all terrific people. Robbie was/is a Foundation Hero who was a great read until he left.

Ahh, the old days....

A trip down memory lane - or in my case amnesia lane.  I used to split my time between the two sites, but moved full time to 'Land to escape from the demented and fatuous ravings of Rono and his 'Veil of Negativity' - he was completely unhinged.

Wish there was an ignore function for particular posters back then.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
