It's ironic that the club discloses the fact that most are fit, yet when I wanted to know the injury status of our players during our last preseason, my post was closed by the moderators at the request of the club.

How do you know it was at the request of the club?

FWIW, I am not aware of any request made by the Club in this regard and I cant see what business it is of outsiders to get that information which is firstly confidential about the player and secondly should be privy to only those within the Club's football department.

However, I understand that when DB commenced pre season last year there were 20 players who were fit to commence and not subject to any modified program or who were injured and in recovery. Its also consistent with the fact that we went into the first pre season game against Geelong with the most threadbare side imaginable.

Question 1. Mo, when you are at the footy do you spend a significant time feeling frustrated and angry about the club and the way it plays?

Q2. Does the club give you any enjoyment and if so in what areas.

Q3. Have you ever considered 1. changing your attitude and getting behind your club or 2.barracking for another club

Sure it's rough at the moment, in fact it's generally rough being a Demon supporter, but to blame the current coaches and admin is laughable it's so ridiculous.

Well Rhino, you were the moderator that sent me a PM saying that it was a club request, so maybe you were just playing God again, and took it upon yourself to act on the club's behalf.

And since when is a player's injury status confidential information?

The club seems to keep me well updated with injury news, and had done so over last pre-season through emails. What other information did you want to find out? What colour jocks they wore over preseason?

I think the injury status of players is very much a matter of public (read "supporter") interest.

Agreed.

But if it was for more info than what is publicly disclosed then its an issue.

FWIW, I thought there was pretty broad media coverage of the injury plight of MFC during the pre season to suggest that a number of players were having a limited or interrupted pre season.

To be quite frank..there are two issues here. The natural curiosity and interest of the sporty follower and the inclination of the club to want to keep it out of public knowledge.

Whilst there is every intent of a Club to keep all this quiet it hardly comes under the national secrets etc. Part of being in a Publicly Viewed Competition is that the Public are going to want to know. It goes hand in hand..SO Whilst I can concur that if I was a club I would WANT it all kept under wraps I would have to also acknowledge that there is no rule that says it must.

Just int the same way as a journalist wil want to root out and discover this kind of info, so might a genuinely interested follower of the game.

Its just another of those games within a game. The club may have an Issue in that it probably doesnt want info disclosed...perfectly valid in outlook, but they play in a public domain and there will be public interest; LOTS !!

you see, this article just pisses me off

think about it

these players are all on modified programs

Brock McLean, Russell Robertson, Paul Johnson, Matthew Warnock, Brad Green and Jarad Rivers

1: Brock McLean--we know he plays much better when he is fit; I was really hoping he would be ready for a full pre

2: Russell Robertson--his greatest asset is his leap and if he's also lost a lot of speed I think he will struggle

3: Paul Johnshon--was getting to great fitness and had some great speed toward end of season, I hope this isnt lost

4: Brad Green--whilst he will be doing all running training, his injury will restrict him from ball work and he will miss a fair chunk of this area of training...I want him to be out there as a leader, physically leading the way and he won't be

5: Mathew Warnock--I'm not too worried, but he still has a bit of skill development to do

6: Jared Rivers--ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

all six of these players are easily in our best 22 and it would really suck if any of them entered round 1 (or not even) not in great shape

One of the great disappointments of the 2008 (and there have been many) was how we started off on the wrong foot with respect to recuperating players from last year. During the latter part of 2007 a number of players were packed off early for surgery and/or rehab and the general view was that this would result in us having a healthy list for the start of 2008 in much the same way as the Kangaroos used their off season the year before to get a kick start for what turned out to be an exceptional year for them.

Instead, the opposite happened. We went into 2008 with a list full of crocks and guys who were half fit and quite a few never reached anything near their peak mentally or physically during the season.

Fingers crossed that we will do things better this year and that those nasty off season injuries don't happen to us but rather afflict Carlton or someone else.

The story's mostly regurgitated in today's HUN - Melbourne forward Russell Robertson's a demon for recovery work.

Here's hoping that they're all firing early next year.

My heart breaks a little every time I read about Jared Rivers these days... it's never truly good news.

That it had to happen to such an enormously talented player is just so cruel, especially given he is so young.

I agree Jaded. That article wasnt too bad until they tried to slip that last line in there. Hopefully they can get him right but I am beginning to lose hope.

Yes, Indeed. They're conservative approach with him whilst understandable, its certainly frustrating for the Melbourne faithful. No one wants him to breakdown again I'm sure.

Over preseason, once he commences training they'll have to label him with "handle with care" and "fragile" stickers. ;)

If some clown hurts him during their drills, lookout! <_<

Any game the Jared plays now, I fear is a bonus.

I like the sticker idea, would Vlad let us use them in games as well?

hmmm, if he won't let a club wear yellow arm bands for a cancer awareness appeal...

So Robbo's walking now. Gee, we're looking good for 2009.

Robbo's a walk-up start for 'an interrupted pre-season' excuse for an average final season of his career.

Been a 'loyal servant' and a good honest trier without ever having the consistency to make it in the elite.

He should have hung up the boots this year.

I have some great memories of Robbo and some of his special efforts but he should have followed Adem's example and known when to pull the pin.

An "excuse"?? I would rather say that its a fact not an excuse!!

I think a "loyal servant" & "honest trier" is selling way too Robbo short. Robbo has always been able to play above his own limits - anyone who saw his games around 04-06 would have noticed that, no one who kicks the amounts of goals he did when he is playing the smaller forward next to someone like Neitz is just an "honest trier" . Robbo will & should go on next year - his forward line work will be invaluable to the youngsters in the forward line. See how he goes post-injury, but I'd rekon I'd be happy with him there in 2010.

You say he should have followed Adem's example & known when to pull the pin - the problem with that is Adem didnt know when to pull the pin. He still wants to play on next year - thats not knowing when to pull the pin.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
