Ditto Titan, ditto. Although, after every saints goal I saw, I said something about collingwood...it might have been directions regarding where they might go and what they might do when they reached their destination.

Found myself in the unusual situation of cheering Milne's goals - needed a wash after that.

It was Melbourne Grammar & Scotch College.

As for the formation of the VFL, several clubs were involved with starting the competition.

havent we all already had this argument?

yes, tom wills invented the game and melbourne grammar and st kilda grammar played the first game of football but "it was not recorded" and a month later

"melbourne grammar and scotch college played the first recorded game of football as we know it today. The game took five weeks, over three saturdays.... etc ect"

then the mcc decided to make a team and formed their team called the Melbourne Football Club who got togethor, clarrified and then wrote the official rules...

then geelong was formed i think a year later...

eventually, some time later, there were enough teams to form a league and colling#$%@ were one of these teams

so yes, there would be no collingwood without the MCC/MFC creating their own club and evolutionising the game

and yes, melbourne is older and have one more premierships in the last 50 years

and yes, old melbournians are better than old xaverians

All that said, you have to admire what Mick Malthouse and his team achieved this year under adversity. Their injuries and losses through suspension affected them greatly towards the end of the year but they still managed to win a final interstate and gave their supporters a lot of heart.

And the guard of honour for Robert Harvey indicated a bit of class that you certainly wouldn't get from the gunifs at Carton.

PS: still enjoyed St. Kilda beating the living suitcases out of them last night though!

Got to agree with you WJ. The biggest thing of all for me is Collingwood and Geelong are great at developing young kids who might not have been chosen early in the draft. Their development and teaching of the kids is admirable to say the least. It is something the Mfc should aspire to in that regard.

I get almost as much joy watching Joffa`s face during a Collingwood pasting as I do a Melbourne win!

Wasn't that Cutaway Shot of Joffa in the Last Q just pure Gold!! But i did admire the way the players gave Robert Harvey the Guard of Honour, after a loss that took some courage. Collingwood losses i do love such things!

According to a librarian at the MCC there are records at Melbourne Grammar of this game.

So, Anglican Catholics are better than the Roman variety? (Don't tell Jimmy)!!!!!!!

Totally agree Jack.

Hate the Pies. But over the years its a toxic mix of loathing and a few nods of respect.

As for Carlton.....there could be kids watching.

Approaching my 50th birthday, my sage realisation is that Collingwood bothers me little compared w. the hostility I have for Carlton. The Didak interview by Hutchy on The Footy Show just proved to me Didak is a spud.

Although Heath Shaw's name was never mentioned by Hutchy, Didak had the need to indicate 'we felt this way', 'Heath and I thought', 'we knew we had done the wrong thing', etc, etc.

At no stage did he take personal and singular responsibility for anything.

This turkey cannot take on board any personal responsibility for his own behaviour.

Pi$$ him off !!!

I feel exactly the Same about Carlton-They have cheated the system since 1965 (although back then the rules were very fimsy) But But look at the Club now-Full of first Draft Picks!! Rewarded for Cheating. Because of the Cardboard King they now call themselves The "Green" Club!!! Giving Dodgy Jobs to Chris Judd at Visy...Wake up AFL

I am really hoping Carlton Fxck up again with the salary Cap. History says they will as that club feeds on Greed ragardless of the consequences. Let us watch carefully........

- We travel well

- We have more premierships and stopped your run of 5 straight flags

These Two Points re Collingwood make me Laugh........How can they be sure they travel well when they don't go anywhere

and Collingwood stopped our run of SIX (6) Flags-count them Thru mostly deeds of thuggery as they were well known in those days of one umpire.

Six of our Flags were won against your mob and lets hope we can win a few more before i am gone!!

Pretty naive to say Collingwood don't travel well.

Granted they travel less, but that is a different argument

They won just over half their interstate games. For a club that beat just over half their opponents, that's probably what would be expected.

Since 2000, their interstate winning percentage is 47.4%.

Now the same stat gives Geelong playing 50 more games than everyone else away from home, so i assume that includes games played at the cattery, but regardless it places them as the second best Victorian team interstate and third best in the comp.

Best interstate team at AAMI in that period, 9th in AFL at Subi (5th Victorian, winning their next game there would put them 3rd [ad yes they're the only team to play there less than 10 times this decade), 1 for 1 at the SCG, 4 from 6 at Telstra Stadium putting them second on percentage there behind us (and you can't whinge that "sydney don't like that ground", they're 17 from 26 there and without playing Collingwood there would be 15-5) and they've struggled at the GABBA.

Don't like defending them, but tough to argue they don't play pretty well interstate, especially when compared to Victorian teams.

The amount they play there, as i said, is another argument

I know there record is not too bad, But they travel such a small amount any win puts the ratio up by about 5% !! Melbourne on the other hand at this point in time Travel appallingly. I remember when the interstate sides first came in to the comp. We travelled pretty well. John Northey got us pumped pretty well

Well researched post, 45. But I think that stat's a little exaggerated by the fact that the Pies seem to have a good match-up vs the Swans. Having said that, I can't argue with their extended record interstate. Do you think they do well because of their larger supporter base interstate?

Guest The Old Xaverian

Collingwood were the 1st club to go through undefeated interstate in a YR (92', Beat Sydney, WC, ADL & Brisbane Interstate), did it again in 01 (Beat Fremantle, ADL, Port & North Interstate) & became the only Victorian club to win 3 Finals interstate (02 V Port, 07 V WC & 08 V ADL interstate).

The AFL is actually penalizing Collingwood by not allocating more games interstate.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
