Unofficial MFC Supporter Pre-Game Lunch - Before Melb v Rich

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

You will see from some other threads that an idea has been floated to have a pre-match lunch. I offered the restaurant I own as the venue. I am very excited, as it gives us another way to raise funds for the MFC.

I have spoken to a number of people at the club, and they are really supportive of the idea. In fact, we have agreed to meet again to discuss the club next year providing an injured player or member of the admin team to attend each pre-match.

SO, the details are below:

Unofficial Pre-Match Demon Lunch

At The Fawkner Bistro Bar (formerly The Fawkner Club Hotel)

52 Toorak Rd West, South Yarra, 3142

Sunday 31 August, 11.30am - 1.00pm. It's a lovely 20 minute walk through the park to get to the 'G.

$25 set lunch - Your choice of:

Pot roasted chicken leg with mash and button mushrooms

Or

Herb and parmesan crumbed veal medallions with roast tomatoes and red wine sauce

All meals are served with French fries, garden salad and a pot of Carlton Draught.

$5 of each lunch goes directly to the MFC. There will be fundraising forms so that anyone who wishes to donate more may do so and claim a tax deduction.

As a one-off before the Richmond game, I will match dollar-for-dollar the amount raised from each lunch order.

Reservations – call 9867 5853 and let them know you are booking for the MFC pre-match. Bookings are limited, so get in quickly.

If a mod can pin this it would be great.

If someone could post this on demonology where I am not a member, I would really appreciate it!

Awesome work Choko!

Fantastically put together! How would it go if we'd just like to...utlize... the bar? Just donate as we go along?

Again, great effort!

Great initative Choko, will certainly try. I actually did the air-con on that place as an apprentice plumber back in about `87, when they renovated and put the retractable roof on. Was a big deal at the time.

If you can`t make the lunch would you be out of place droping in for a heart starter ??

Thanks everyone for your comments and PMs.

We are getting a lot of interest, and due to other bookings that day, we can only take the first 35, so if you want in, book quickly! If we get 35, we will make at least $350 for the club, so that would be fantastic.

For those who don't want to come in for the lunch, of course you're welcome to come and sit in (or... utilise!) the bar, have a frothy and make a donation to the club if you choose to as well. Our bar is open all day as well. More info at www.thefawkner.com.au

Great effort Choko!

Sensational idea and inspiration. I hope the Club backs you next year.

For those contemplating going, I had meal at the Fawkner a couple of weeks ago and it was a good meal in a good setting.

Unfortunately I have a prior booking with some filthy Richmond supporters and wont make it. But if it is a Club function next year I will mark it in.

I hope it goes well.

Thanks for all the messages everyone.

The chef has asked me to remind people to please book if you are intending to attend, because we are putting on a special menu.

Hi all,

I am just making a cheeky bump here because I remember this thread from last year, and even though was unable to attend, thought it was a really good idea.

I think it would be good for things like this to continue in a more consistent capacity.

I am not asking or suggesting choko to put his hand out again, but I think it would be good if we brained togethor some ideas that could get people togethor before the games such as these lunches...any thoughts of good places / connections??

Somewhere walking distance from the ground that isn't too overpriced. The London...

Where's the London?

It would be great to have somewhere that support the club, so food deals and minor fundraising could be achieved.

I've been saying this for God knows how long (see - demons draft day event) - but it doesn't seem to be an option and not too many of our suppoters seem too interested (I tried to get a venue going for us to get together to watch interstate matches with little-no interest and our 150th Birthday party we had was, whilst fun, disappointing in its turn out).

My thinking would be to get a group going first that meets regularly before games and hopefully grows in numbers - if successful we could probably then try to set up donations/auctions/deals to help the club.

agreed.

Just out of interest, how was the turnout at the above function and how did it go, we never seemed to get a report.

I agree with the numbers issue though, it is very hard to get a turn out at things like this, hence consistency is important. The Adelaide/Melbourne pre-match meet up at light tower 2 (that even made the newspaper) is an example of this.

Can't really remember off the top of my head.

We raised ~$1500 and about 80(?) people came out. Was a good, fun night. Someone posted a little report a few days after it I think.

But yeah, you need consistent numbers which our fans just don't seem too interested in being a part of.

Interstate matches supporter thread

Our birthday party thread

A possible solution could be to have a demonland endorsed pub/restuarant near the G where we aim to get people to each week - one location where we know we can go and meet up with at least a few Dees. Perhaps we set up a poll with a few decent pubs near the G where we can meet pre match and possibly watch interstate matches

mm i agree. Would love to get it beyond demonland though, that's why I think something like the pre-game lunch at the fawkner would be good on a consistent basis.

I love the thought of having a regular pre-game 'rallying point'. Heading over for the game with a small, slightly familiar crowd would be like a miniature version of the Walk to the 'G event.

I think it would be particularly good as a welcoming ritual for people travelling in from country areas or interstate too.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
