:) Wow. That will make me sleep better. Thanks BB. It's wise of him to talk to the people to get a better feel for the job, and talking to Demetriou, Gough and the like seems to be positive IMO.

Even if Fox doesn't take on the job, the following is positive:

Gough is believed to have painted, like Demetriou, a positive picture of Melbourne's future while not dismissing the club's challenges. Both the AFL and the MCC have unofficially guaranteed they will continue to financially support the Demons next year to the tune of at least $1.5 million.

Demetriou refused to comment when asked about his meeting with Fox, but it is believed the AFL has been encouraged by the depth of talent among Stynes' hand-picked group of directors and by the club's determination to decrease its debt and by its overall prudent financial management since Stynes and his team took over.

Anyhow, if Caroline Wilson is on the money, we should know soon.

I am just wondering what has really changed in the past 2 to 3 weeks that has put Fox back in the race. <_<

Maybe the endorsement of the chiefs of the AFL and MCC and the positive publicity about the debt reduction, Casey situation and the harder recruiting attitude.

Just guessing, but I think Schwab pulling out may have had something to do with it. If he missed out to Schwab, with the spectre of "jobs for the boys" hanging over such an appointment, he would not have wanted to be seen as having missed out on the same job twice in 6 months.

Firstly it wouldn't make his own credibility look great for future applications, and secondly for the club, the process of the Schwab appointment would have appeared to make any other application purely token at best, which would have further stretched the club's credibility when it comes to appointing these top end positions.

To remember where Geelong were and to see where they now are, and to know he has been a part of that, learning from the best in the business in Brian Cook and Frank Costa, gives me hope. Different club, different dynamics - but a mess is a mess and they fixed it. Jimmy and the board seem really keen to get him and appear to have wooed him back.

I just hope he genuinely wants the job and then actually lands it. He obviously has the support of the major external parties - being the AFL and the MCC and has spoken with them.

I would not know him if I fell over him, but he's got my tick already - and I hope that makes a difference!

I think Schwab pulling out of the race may have had a little to do with it too. Fox may have pulled out initially thinking it was a foregone conclusion that Schwab was going to get it. Fox meeting with the MCC and AFL regarding the Demons position may have had something to do with it too. Then again, there may be some other circumstance..

I reckon this just about summarises it. One way or another Fox has already invested some time into the process sohe must be more than a little interested. Leaving everything in the past..in the past i think an appointment such as his might resolve a few other problems.. sponsorship being one. Youd only have to presume as a potential you might be happier knowing the ship was to be sailed well !! Speculative I agree..but not without cause.

That's probably it. But last I heard there were 2 guys who were considered the front runners (I've got no idea who they are, it was in the paper), so maybe he missed the boat.

The crucial chief executive appointment at Melbourne now appears to rest largely upon whether Fox chooses to remain a contender. He was quietly persuaded by the Demons to return to the frame last week and has spoken several times with the club, which has also interviewed Hawthorn's No. 2 executive, Terry Dillon.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
