The club's raised almost $3 million dollars in one month and finished just shy of 30,000 members. As an MCC member I "donate/invest" in the club by spending another $150 on an MFC membership that I never use, I also sign my son up and my partner(who comes to 2 or 3 games a year in the members. That's over $300 that I give the club every year. As it turns out I also donated to DD but many others would see their memberships as "donations/investments". So think before you call people pathetic because everyone's situation is different, and considering the position of the club everyone has done their bit, some by signing up memberships, some by donating, some by going week in week out and some by doing all of the above. What's pathetic is use of the word to label those who have sighned up to a club that has done little to galvanise it's supporters for so long. Unity and understanding is essential in these difficult but exciting times.

Well said mate, great post

over 3 million now raised, not including longer term direct debits.

Amazing effort by all involved

Congratulations to everyone associated with the Mfc. Over $3 million for the month of August is a fantastic achievement for the Debt Demolition campaign. :)

Tally: $3,020,100

Old article.

Apologies.

New tally, almost $3.1 million. Received this from Members E-mail update: $3,086,462.

Keep it going Dees!

Are people still donating money to the MFC via Debt Demolition?

I hope they are? I think the website should continue going until we wipe out ALL the debt that the Melbourne Football Club owe completely! In many ways we could easily do this and I'm sure those at the MFC will know this and will keep it going for as long as it takes.

If we have raised almost $3.1 million dollars already then I'm sure that we can continue to have fundraisers at the MFC. Perhaps the MFC should even consider doing a bit of fundraising at the Melbourne Football Club players Best & Fairest night? ;)

I'm sure many people will. I certainly am and I know others have pledged to donate on a monthly basis....

I just whacked another $50 on.

Shhh, dont tell the mrs though, i took it out of the money i had put aside for her impending birthday present. She'll still be getting something nice, but it will be worth 50 bucks less.

Very brave... very very brave

Agree with MJP. I reckon your wife will smell the fact her present should be $50 more expensive. :)

Careful. Otherwise it will be Tata! And certainly no... Bang Goal! ;)

This is the sort of courage our boys need to show from next year onwards.

You know you're going to get the crap beaten out of you, but you put yourself in the contest anyway.

My heart goes out to you!

  • 11 years later...

It's back!!!!

I have had a couple of discussions with the club today and members will be getting an email in the next few days outlining a Debt Demolition style campaign similar to the one that Jim Stynes implemented more than 10 years ago. As was the case back then, donations will be tax deductible.

It's been touted as a possibility by a few posters and they have been proven correct.

Bring it on I say - I want every person as well as my club to survive this scurge of a virus!

I think the club should be holding off on it for now, there’s a lot going on in the world and people are still trying to figure things out. Australia isn’t even in lockdown.

When it happens, I’m on board and will gladly dip in, but it could be a PR nightmare is they don’t time it right.

I reckon the moment they are allowed to play again is the time to do this.  Many of us dont know if we have the cash or income to ‘cross the bridge’, let alone support the MFC

It would be a brave or maybe brash move right now.  There are members who may be looking for membership refunds rather than chipping in some more coin.

And it would make more business sense to wait until the AFL package is known and piggy-back off it.  At least a DD program would have some context.  And it would be useful if they announce some reduction in senior management salary packages at the same time.

Btw, didn't Pert say that at EOFY 2019 we only $2.0m in Debt - has it ballooned since then?

If @Palace Deesis correct there is a lot the club has to get right to avoid a PR disaster and broader member discontent despite the willingness of DL to chip in.  We are the diehards.  There are about 35,000 members out there that may not see it as we do.

A time for the club to tread carefully.

I've said this a few times on other threads.

This is definitely not the time...

I sure hope the club is not this insensitive.

All too true.  Might as well have the club go out to our older members with pre-filled Demon Will Kits.

Would be a PR disaster.

Yeah I tend to agree, while I LOVE my club and want it to survive more than anything, people are fighting for their livelihood. To ask us for money right now would just be plain rude.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
