Too many times on this site people have been critical of David Schwarz's passion for our club. Thought this read might put an end to that.

Demons find the fire within

It doesn’t matter where you are on the ladder, the emotion and belief of a team can be more powerful than even the best list in the competition. Melbourne showed Brisbane what passion was all about last Sunday. It wasn’t just the players, it was the supporters - 23,000 of them who turned up at the MCG and saw a match that delivered more than many thought possible. In a game that only saw the lead change a couple of times, the underdog led for most of the day but was challenged late in a dramatic finish. The amazing Demons fans were on their feet cheering and screaming and making the sound of 80,000. Poor umpiring decisions had the fans ready to jump the fence as most thought it had slipped through the Demons’ hands. Despite Melbourne having most of its stars out, the spirit and passion from players and supporters was more than I’d ever seen at a Demons match. New president Jim Stynes, possibly more than anyone else, rode the roller-coaster of emotions from the first bounce to the final siren. With the Dees having a new coach, a young list and sitting at the bottom of the ladder, no one expected the group to get over the impressive Lions. When Melbourne broke free at the end and ran the length of the ground the game was over, but the tears were not. I’ve never been an emotional type, but I would be lying if I said the tears weren’t rolling down my face. The players should be proud of their efforts as it was a David and Goliath battle. This will be enormous for the club and the passion that was generated can’t be underestimated.

Straight after the game on Ch. 7, he admitted to being quite emotional. Was very good to see. He has admitted he hasnt been around the club much since retirement, but certainly seems to be in love with the club as much as ever this year!

The Ox was at the Walk to th G last month! I remember him on SEN the next day saying how awesome it was. Francis asked if he`d ever return to the club and he said he wouldnt rule it out! Be great to get him away from the Doggies and truly back as a Demon. I reckon Stynes will get him back!

Wow

great read, great stuff Ox! So glad to read this.

Also glad our supporters are getting a rap this week. Never have i heard 23,000 drown out an MCG siren. Mind you it was a massive finish, possibly the biggest i'd seen, but still, we blocked out the bloody song! I didn't realise it was on until it was a verse through.

Our core of fans are as pashionate, if not moreso, than any other team. We just don't have as many. Build that up and we can be a force again

Awesome is the word that comes to mind in

describing Schwarta before he did his knee the first time.

He set the football world on fire; his talent was exceptional.

It was pure pleasure to watch him carve his way through the

forward line.

He is a legend

He was a sensational player before his knees went.

I just watched a dvd of the Collingwood v Melbourne clash from rd 20 in 1992. Schwarz in his headband days and Jako kicking 7 in a 9 point win at Vic park. It'd been a while since i'd seen footage of him, almost forgotten how great he was. Was swung onto Sav Rocca (who was a big lump even then), who was starting to dominate. From full back Schwatta picked up 20 touches, 9 marks and dominated Rocca to get the 3 votes.

I remember being absolutely crushed watching him being carried off at the G in his second match back from the first reco.

He took one of my workmates for a training session, and let slip that he would be a forward coach / developer next year along side Neitz. If he can bring us some of the Doggies nouce, we should be fine.

The reason he was never taken up on his offer as forward coach was quite simply, ND didn't like him.

I think the OX was a bit upset that he was talked into retiring, maybe he come back now that we have a whole new crew.

Normally I don't run with rumours, but this one will happen.....

hate to shoot you down here, but I disagree, I'm pretty sure any supporter would be hopping with joy if their team ended the game like that... But the crowd was nice and vocal I must say.

I'd like to see where you "shot me down". How did you disagree that our core group of passionate supporters are as loud, and vocal, as any other in the competition?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
