I thought Sylvia was no good and should be traded?

The magic being spun here is gold!

Like the club in bursting at the seams with players that can actually have an influence on games at the moment.

And some of the scientists on here want to kick out a player who has been seriously injury prone early in his career, who was a high draft pick who is still only 22 for some mid range draft pick now that he is finally starting to get on the ground consistently and deliver on his promise.

Is it just me, or is the absurdity beyond belief?

Telling me I'm missing something here.

Didnt think there was anything particularly special about his game. He kicked 4 playing full forward in a winning team, when he kicks bags regularly, winning or losing, I'll be sold. I have always liked the idea of him playing forward though and hope today is the start of a permanent role for him, can see him being playing similar to Brad Johnson.

You need to look closer at his game, get the DVD and watch carefully. He played great game today. Good individually and a great team performance - Just what DB would have wanted

Hes starting to look great on the lead. And has the engine to go in the midfield for bursts. Ive always loved sylvia, he just needs to do this every week. I think he tends to get too excited sometimes, like running off without the ball heaps.

Y_M, all Sylvia has done is better his 'Trade Bait' price; instead of 4th/5th round, now maybe 3rd/4th. If he keeps this up, we might get a 1st/2nd round pick for him.

To stay at MFC, he needs to play well consistently, AND convince the footy dept he is part of their plans. The latter won't be easy given his record.

there is no way in the world we'll be trading Colin Sylvia. Period. He's a gun, he was a gun, he's a gun now and he'll be a gun in the future. He has been injured. You need to remember this.

Maybe we need to start trading supporters!!

Geez, you're easily pleased. Colin is Colin, a handy player that will forever be remembered as a top 3 pick, but the facts are he should just be judged as a handy player on our list who may develop into a good player. Unfortunately his draft pick no. is always top of mind.

I'd keep him because he's good enough to become a good forward who's difficult to match up on. He's not a 'Gun' and never will be, but others need to move on from his draft pick no.

A player's potential does not make them a gun, it just makes them a player with potential.

I think he's getting better and will be a good player for us, but we shouldn't dance around the hat too early

True, especially your last few words.

Lucky for you and me, Dean Bailey isnt as stupid as these Sylvia-bashers.

If Bailey can make players out of Miller, Garland, CJ, Buckley etc.. it is scary to think how good he will make Colin Sylvia.

Could not agree more. Colin Sylvia was pick number 3. If people agree that Brock McLean is good, then surely they must hold some hope for Colin, particularly after a 4 goal game. Not to mention 3.3 vs. Collingwood. I seem to remember him being one of our best players in the pre-season comp, as well as the first few rounds of this year. He will be good.

Sylvia showed wht he can do today and with slightly stickier fingers would have been a stand out player.

To trade him would be madness.

No, it wouldn't. He hasn't shown signs that he'll be an elite mid, nor that he'll be able to be a KP forward, despite 'playing tall'. His trade value might be quite high come the end of the year. Virtually everyone's trade-able.

Unless the DVD covers 4 weeks of footy Im not intersted. When he's consistent I'll give a [censored].

Surely the jury is still out on Sylvia as well as CJ though

You have no idea. The boy has kicked 4. He's like 21-22 years old. 62 games. Get a grip. If MFC let him go he will be as good as Scotty Thompson - of which I am still spewing over. Do you want that to happen again!????

Two things.

Sylvia isn't in Thompson's league as a footballer and Eboi doesn't care if Melb let Sylvia go because he's an Essendon supporter.

Lets not get to excited by a couple of good performances. I have always rated Col but he has to show this every week. I don't want to see him traded but what games like this does is increase his value at trade time. If Bailey wants another first round pick IMO Col maybe the only player that may get it for him.

All talk aside about possessions and goals, the best bit of silv's game today was the bump/spoil (i forget on who) that left him winded on the ground for a minute in the 1st quater.

It's acts like that which make me think "most competitive kid" lines that were used to describe him prior to being drafted might actually have some truth to them. That kind of act may also give Silv something to work with looking to the future and getting a point of difference to other players that may make him great.

Sylvia wont be in Thompson's league but could still be a valuable footballer in the future for MFC. While I am always open to consider worthwhile trades, Sylvia has not done enough in his injury ridden career to command such value in the trading stakes.

He's really showing something now, it's great to see all that potential being used now. I've never suggested we trade him, but i've always been unsure as to how good he'll be. Yesterday was a step in the right direction, if he can keep up the kind of work we saw yesterday he's got my vote. (Whatever that means!)

How is he a gun?

Because he is. Remeber he's been injured for most of his time at the club. Just because a gun doesn't work properly doesn't make it not a gun. If he can run out the year and do a full preseason he will start firing consistently and we will all go, Wow. he is a gun (please don't take this all too seriously, I've always been a Sylvia fan and I don't even like guns!!)

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
