Realistically, do we have the pieces to trade for another top 10 pick?

I think Dean Bailey will try to get another high pick, in the top 10 or 15.

Looks like we will have picks 1, 17 and 18 heading into the draft. I just wonder what would we would offer another club to take on of their first rounders.

Four picks in the top 18 would really give Bailey a nice launching pad to build that list he wants.

Our picks are dependent on our spot on the ladder at R22. We are not confirmed wooden spooners yet and are not confirmed for those picks. Counting chickens.......

The only player that would possibly get us a top 10 pick is McLean ATM. Do you want to do that? No other player would make it.

i would look at trading one of pick 17 or 18 and a player for a draft pick between 5-12. I doubt we will get both rich and naitanui, but picking up jack watts would be good and also mitch robinson who has played in a similar way to ricky petterd in our team in the u18 champs.

P.S This season will be based on the improvement of our younsters and i reckon us picking up naitanui is in the bag

Since when did "realism" interest you ?

But no, we won't be able to trade into the top 10.

I myself would trade Brock for a top 10 pick, last year to grab some serious talent before they all head north in the following years. Brock is talented but I think we can cover the midfield without him.

Top 15 picks I feel are more expensive now that the 2010/11 drafts will be heavily compromised. To get another pick around 9 - 14 would cost us someone like a Rivers, or Green or Miller to a team that is topping off it's list, like a Collingwood or Footscray or such.

No.

If we want another pick, or two within the first 20 we're going to have to be crafty. Like a player and later pick for an earlier one...

Maybe a Bruce or Green along with pick 17 or 18 for say a pick 6 would be about the best we could hope for... Not that I want to lose either player.

But it is true we DO need another in the first 6 or so to pick up another tall. We are in more dire need than any side on the comp.

Firstly, no club would give up pick 6 for Bruce or Green, not even if pick 17 came with it.

Secondly, you're crazy if you wouldn't trade either for a top 10 pick. That is seriously an insane rip-off.

I think the best we can hope to get for Bruce is a late 20 pick, at best. Would still take that in a heartbeat mind you.

I think it would cost us Green plus pick 1 to get two top 10 picks, in other words we have no chance. I think we will be looking for another pick around 20-25 what will get that Col Sylvia I'd like to keep him but really he may be our best trade bait.

I doubt we will win more than 5 games so we will finish between 14-16th, to get 4 picks in the top 25 IMO is what we will be looking for. In what order only time will tell.

We have nothing we would be willing to trade (the only one would be Mclean) to get a pick in the top 15. To trade a proven ball winner with 10 years ahead of him for a gamble in the draft makes no sense. The only other option now has dud groins and no team would punt such a high pick on Rivers now. First rounders will only be given up if we have an experienced player of high quality or if we had an abundance of a type of player that was in demand ie: Brisbane with rucks last year, Hawks with Key forwards this year. Still in either case you need to find a team who think that is what they need to be serious premiership chance to get one.

Trading this year will go one of two ways this year. There will be 4-6 teams who think they are a real chance next year and will trade to try and and make the most of their window. The other option is teams will hold onto any first rounder they have due to the draft restrictions for GC17 the following years.

In saying this we should be trading players who are older than 24 who could garner us a pick in the 20-30 range or a trade for a potential player under 23.

col sylvia and possibly newton could be our best trade bait...i know people out their love them but they are both young and they are both brimming with talent but from what i have heard as an outsider, they lack a real work ethic...

i think both togethor could be looking at a top 20 pick

Bruce and Sylvia can go, Green stays. after Naitanui we need two kids equipped with nitro for midfield. some players will earn a lot more than they are worth next year.

And pay half his salary for 2009 and 2010?

He is contracted!!!

Sometimes the posts on this site are unbelievable :lol::lol::lol:

Added together , $200,000 for a late 20 pick!!! for two years.

Wonderfully thought out!!!!

i was thinking about this the other day....with the state of our list, especially player ages, and the retirements that we will have at the end of this year, can we afford to trad eour last 3 or 4 players with more than 100 games experience?

i honestly think we could get pick 15-20 for Bruce.

When he's playing well he is by FAR our best and most talented player. has a great engine and is strong is contested situations.

He would be great for a club about to push for a flag.

If we were offered pick 15 for him, we'd be crazy not to take it.

I think we'll be struggling.

Everyone agrees Bruce should be traded. Sylvia and possibly Bell may be, form pending. I'm in the keep Green camp. Even packaged with a pick 17 or 18, assuming we get them, I cant see any of these players getting us a top 10 pick and trading Bruce and pick 17 for a pick 12 or 13 seems a bit silly, theres every chance the player we want will still be there when our turn comes around, both Grimes and Maric were.

I think we may able to pick something up in the 20s for the right price, anything beyond that and you'd really only consider it if its players we dont rate.

I'm not totally against paying out portions of salaries, everyone seems to agree high draft picks are worth more in the long term than the players being mentioned, so if it costs a little extra so be it. If Grimes turns out to be a great player I'm sure nobody will remember the fact that he cost us extra dosh. At the end of the day we would be paying the players his full salary anyway and instead we get a draft pick for nicks so I dont see why its looked upon as bad business.

I am dead against trading blokes like McLean or Jones or Bate, if they get traded how does that effect a Morton or Petterd when they start getting offers to go back home?

Im still concerned Bruce isnt looked upon as tradeable by the MFC, why would you make a player you want to trade your captain?

I think at the moment I look forward to the trade and draft period more than game day

And you would have paid $200,000 for either of them this year with our debt????

That's a great point and one that is all too easily forgotten when we start throwing names around for possible trades. It's easy for us, we don't know them personally, we certainly don't understand the team dynamics and how one trade can impact upon the group mentality (for better or for worse).

Having said that, Bruce and Green are the only players I'd be willing to offer up that have any chance of getting us another pick in the top 25. I think our best chance would be tempting Sydney, Hawthorn or Collingwood. Their first round pick would be in the 10 - 16 range. If Carlton make the finals, they may well feel a more mature player might be exactly what their young crop needs to take the next step.

We lost Woey and had to pay half his salary!!!

Look back at our picks in the 20-30 range over the last 8 years and name one who is certain to play over 150 games!!! like Green and Bruce.

Economics is not a strong point of the posters on this site .

We are in debt up to our armpits!!!

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
