Anyone for cricket?

Yes....but.....

They're injured.

Harris from SA??? I have not checked others. But Hodge at 35.........

Just on Hodge, look, I really have the same opinion they should be looking to the future now and I think his international career now is finished. I probably thought the same for Katich too, before his pile of runs - but that coincided with Hayden finishing and Jacques being injured.

Based on some of the selection changes of recent times and the experimentation of Watson opening, as well as injuries, I guess some such things maybe possible with the selectors.

What an amazing match. 175 to Tendulkar, and India loses. How would you feel?

White and McKay leading the charge for Victoria. White's innings was the first typical White innings we've seen in a while. 5 sixes.

If we get up and win this series it will highlight the strength and resilience of Australian cricket. Probably 6 or so of our first-choice XI aren't available for selection.

Any credit to the captaincy and the selectors for cobbling a side together with all those injuries? I expect not.

I think it evens things out, frankly. Quite a few blunders of late, but the way they've managed to get decent, international-quality players over to India on such short notice, and ensure that the team's stability hasn't fallen apart, deserves credit.

Some of the stats from the game.... WOW

Prime Numbers

All five of Australia's batsmen had strike-rates of 100 or more. Cameron White's 57 off 33 balls at 172.72 was the best.

Shaun Marsh's 112 is his maiden ODI hundred. His 145-run partnership with Watson is the highest opening stand in the series.

Sachin Tendulkar's 175 is the third-highest score in an ODI defeat, behind Charles Coventry's 194*, and Mathew Hayden's 181*.

The match aggregate of 697 is the highest in India and the third highest overall, after 872 by South Africa and Australia in Johannesburg, and 726 by New Zealand and India in Christchurch.

India's total of 347 is the third-highest score in the second innings of an ODI, after South Africa's 438 for 9 in Johannesburg, and New Zealand's 350 for 9 in Hamilton. It is also the highest second-innings total in a defeat.

Also, Shane Watson 93 at better than a run a ball and 3-47....Great effort in a mentally tough game with a depleted side...Great win.

While I am not mad on ODI this is one of the few I would watch a replay of.

"Any credit to the captaincy ?"

Ricky's 35 and he's finally realised it's an advantage to bat first in cricket matches.

He captained this match well.

It might be worth opening the bowling with a spinner to Sehwag.

Today's match was one of the best ODI's I've ever seen. A great, courageous victory by our boys against very strong opposition in their home territory.

Our fielding was sensational.

I particularly liked Doug Bollinger's great catch running back after spilling a hot one,and Voges' gulley catch!!!

We were a bit unlucky with shots at the stumps just missing for run-outs, and lofted shots always seemed to drop between fieldsmen.

This has been a great effort so far. After that second game, we looked thoroughly outclassed.

What about the crowd atmosphere!!!

Cricket sucks.

Just played in 33 degree heat and it was awful - 60 0vers in the field, and came off feeling we lost even though we won the week before and I got a decent score. That's a 2-Day game for you.

Dehydration and awful smelling bag of expensive crap - that's all you get from cricket.

Speaking about Cricket, how about those Bushrangers eh?

I've been listening to Tasmanians having tearies all night.

Poor things.

Too Right!! One of the all time great wins...the team was full of new players....fantastic...

I'll take it as a positive. If I'd have stayed we'd have lost. Had forgot how good it is to have a relaxing day at the cricket.

Absolutely, the last 5-6 overs were amazing. SEN stuck with it pretty closely without commentating!

You cannot help but be impressed by the Australian side winning the one day series against India in India, with a game still to play having been down 1-2 in the series. Didn't bat first either today! Well captained Ricky Ponting.

Well captained Ricky Ponting.

He didn't win the toss did he? He batted alright but his bowlers did the damage.

So I'm more inclined to congratulate Doug Bollinger for the figures he got.

Captaincy is more than just the toss in both ODI and Tests.

Who is the person that controls the bowling changes and the field in ODI?

Bollinger should be congratulated ...but then again so should Ponting for excatly the reasons HT gave. The fact that he was prepared to back Johnson (incredibly inconsistent) and Bollinger (young, inexperience) is a credit to Ponting.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
