Retire No9 for a while until someone earns it.

The retirement of jumpers is a load of ceremonial crap.

Collingwood transferred Buckley's No 5 guernsey to Maxwell as soon as he retired.

I think Essendon did the same with Hird's jumper.

Just get Neitz to present to a young player deemed worthy of it.

I agree, however, I didn't mind when we retired number 20 for the 2005 season, following the incidents of Boxing Day 2004.

But, in terms of a retiring player, of course there's no reason to retire the number. Just give it to a new player and move on.

I'll almost bet my left [censored] that Watts gets number 9 if we pick him up at number one.

You really think the club would let him be put under that much pressure from the get-go?

Number 4 - filling Craig Ellis' shoes is not quite so hard

For those who may have missed it, on SEN's lunchtime program they had one of the testers from the draft camp who does all the pysch testing in terms of decision making (quickness of mind, correct decisions and competetive decision making), and when asked who was the standout of the camp, guess which name he mentioned? Our boy Jack Watts of course.

Not only a gun athlete, but seems to also have all the boxes ticked mentally as well.

Was there ever a surer bet than the Demons picking up Watts at No.1?

i heard it as well... it is very clear to me now that we MUST pick up Watts.

At draft camp he was an absolute superstar. The quickest KPP in the history of draft camp and the 3rd quickest out of 1500 kidz tested in 15 years. He is agile, tall and fast.

In the reaction time exersizes and the tests on peripheral vision, decision making he was the best at the camp. In terms of finding targets inside 50, making clever decisions with the football and general skills he was also a huge standout.

All this and he is the Larke Medalist for best playing of the National Championships (playing on the best yougnsters in the country) and he is only 17 and in year 11... do people realize how young that it?!?!?!

Get him now---

Forward line:

Sylvia, Miller, Bate

Maric, Watts, Davey

---- with Wonaeamirri, Newton, PJ and others rotating through it is actually scary how much talent is it that forward line!

Add Butcher to CHF next year and we'll have the forward line to go with the back line. Geez, things aren't so bad down the bottom!

--------NEW VIDEO. NEW VISION FOR LAST HALF OF VID------------

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFdoFF-DT3M

What a prospect is Jack! High marking ,pace, agility, nouse. Leaves Naita for dead! Loved his left foot goals and his ability to break away from the opposition. We would be MAD if we didn't pick him at # 1. Can't wait to see him in a Melbourne jumper. Thanks for the great video Morts.

A new thing we see in that video is ferocity at the ball, which alot of people doubted him on. Laid a few ripper tackles in the middle of that vid.

The 2:25 mark of that vid... Shows how he seems to take marks even when the defender does everything right, including getting a fist to the ball. Somehow he swallows them still... A bit of spiderman going on there,

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

POSTGAME: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
