1) Colin Sylvia- he shows great signs each week with 12-15 possies a game. he lays a couple of great tackles, takes a couple of great grabs and shows great kicking skills.

however, clearly doing this only 12 possessions in a game is going to end up leaving you as an ordinary/ average player. my hope is that one day it will just click with Colin and instead of doing it only in parts of games, he'll start getting the ball 25 possies a game.

i think most would agree that with the quality of possessions you get with Sylvia, the only thing stopping him becoming a great player is his inability to play well throughout an entire game.'

My precedent- C.Johnson- he clicked one day and decided to rack the ball up. So why cant Colin.

2) i also vigorously defend J.Frawley bc like Sylvia, he is extremely young and shows signed that one day it could come together and he'll become a great player.

if people dont believe this happens to young players---- C.Johnson, C.Garland etc.

In fact, i'll defend any player who's written off too early.

I'll defend any player with obvious football skills and awareness, because with confidence and opportunity, they can make an impact. (CJ is an example of that this year). That covers nearly everyone on our list.

I won't defend players with little or no awareness. In the past, i've slagged off Godfrey, Williams and Nicholson, and of the current list, Daniel Bell fits this criteria. Basically, I don't like try hards.

On the same wavelength.

Basically, I don't like try hards.

I will always defend players who try their hardest but I will also recognise their lack or abundance of skill in their exertions. If they lack skills or the calibre then its up to the Footy department to move on them on quicksmart and replace with more capable players.

I will always call it as I see it. I will not play favourites. However, I will not defend any player that is undisciplined, lazy, unaccountable, lacks commitment, selfish or is a waste of talent. Players that represents drains on team spiirt or culture also not defended.

FWIW,as an observation Sylvia suffers from the expectations that have hung around his neck since his drafting. He is not as good as hoped but could still be a fair player for us. Given his medical problems and progress to date, I doubt he will get us anything better at the trade table at this point then what we could possibly develop with him at MFC.

I respect players who have not alot of skill, pace etc the pure guts and determination to play AFL.

Something very much lost in modern footy, but I think some of the players on our list are bringing this back in a sense.

Garland, Martin etc. Sure they have all their own attributes making them special, but none have come through VIS/AIS ranks and werent taught the game properly by professional coaches.

I'll always defend Miller, Sylvia, Bell, Bruce, Green, Wheatley............even though it's early days, I can't see myself defending Newton.

Warnock: He's about to come off this list I reckon, but at the start of the year I didn't think he was even a C-grader.

CJ: Just can't put a foot right. 4 years in the system and he's not even dominating the VFL.

Jamar: I mark him roughly, as he won a Liston. But he should be better. MUCH better.

Oops. I'm still a long way from being convinced about Jamar, though it looks like he'll retain his spot. CJ has made a fool out of me (and most people I reckon), and Warnock has turned out to be the next Carroll, only better.

Colin Garland, I've been defending him all this year and saw a few signs on the weekend that he looks pretty good.

Pretty happy with my allegiance. This was called one week after he made it back in the team round 7. But if you check my history I've been on him since last year.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
